When I use a welding tape (aluminum tape with fiberglass cloth) I get a lot of noxious fumes and smoke coming from the tape. The new low carbon 18 gauge steel is very well cleaned before welding with acetone and a wire brush. I can see the welds do look cleaner on the backside with the tape. How do I prevent all these noxious fumes? Also how do you remove the residue that remains from the tape after welding?
