I compare different turntable upgrades for my own interest, and for your benefit. I also provide help with turntable maintenance, as well as other random Vinyl-related endeavours. The audiophile world is daunting and full of conflicting ideals, let's take this on together and let our ears lead us in our decisions.
In the last few days I have tested the AT3699L, which is actually the same system as the rega carbon. Vta set to 3.0g and the little devil's part tracks without distortion to 100um. I believe it is the same with the Rega Carbon.
No I can't, using my tablet and headphones. But I do use the Evergreen between my phono cartridge and cartridge preamp in my main system and the Evergreen beats the supplied stock Project brand interconnect which came with the Project TT and by a large margin.
NEVER crimp those connectors down to reduce their size WITHOUT first inserting a sewing needle otherwise once crushed, can never be opened again. Even more crucial at the cartridge end.
I think there is a problem with the turntable, OM5e It plays better on the other turntable, but 2m on this one it doesn't play well.. both cartridges booming on this test
The Ortofon had obvious distortion on the last test. Tracking Test? The A B test was very hard to decide. -A- cartridge a tiny slight distortion -B- Cart was smoother.. The comparisons between playback of two artists give the Ortofon a vote for a slightly brighter sound
You all think some kind of audiophile experts but fail to realize that RU-vid compresses the shit out of audio and does not give any kind of accurate representation of what any cartridge sounds like. My Turntable came with and AT95E. When I was ready to upgrade everyone said to get an Ortofon 2M red or an M97xE. That was 2017 when the M97xE was still available. That's what I bought, and I'm blown away by the difference. But then some fools think there's no difference between a felt mat and an acrylic mat. I bought an acrylic mat just because I was getting a lot of static with felt and I couldn't find a cork mat I liked. I also liked the look of it. I read zero reviews and had no clue the sound would change. I think my set up sounds 100% better with the acrylic mat YMMV. One thing I don't think that so called audiophiles get is that you cannot prove that one thing sounds better than another. All you can do is find what sounds best to you. Everybody has different hearing, and different things will sound different to different people.
my 2 cents here, I do notice tighter base response with weight or clamps. note: Only noticeable on high end systems, lower budget rig will not reveal the improvement. I'd recommend it.
If it cost $10.000. you guys would still buy it and still have change leftover.. at this point if they say it was the work of elf's it would and does sell ? The sad part is that it even works on people who should know? Engineers, Teachers , smart people... who think that elevating wire off the floor will improve the mood ?
I really like the M97xe. Bought one on-line back in 2009, and was only $69 new, on sale. Then prices went ridiculous shortly after the company stopped making all cartridges. This summer, Guitar Center ran a very short special on some remaining stock for $99, I believe. It was over by time I heard of it. Finding a good but cheaper replacement stylus is more challenging these days.
A friend of mine asked me to buy from him a 3-foot DC power cable for his amplifier, the cable was $150 or so. I told him not to be a fool, he said things sounds better. He lives in an old building built in the 40s or 50s, all the cables from the power outlet to the street are 80 years old technology. But he won't listen.
I'm always afraid I may be able to get something better, and it just bothers me so much. I have a pair of speakers that people just think are fantastic. But I know that I can spend more money but yet not still be satisfied, maybe I will quit watching RU-vid and just be blessed with what wonderful products I have.
Hi mate I just watched your video and it’s the first time for me to rip vinyl to digital. Based on your recommendation for Behringer umc204hd . I have a Behringer umc404hd will this be good ? Thanks
The experts design and build turntables,if you think you know better then go ahead, risk wrecking your turntable. If i had a vinyl axs warped as the first one it would be in tghe dustbin
I’m in the VM crowd as it sounded brighter in each test. The AT95E is what I bought based on initial review searches and quickly went looking for something better. I ended up with a AT-VM95SH.
These are the very cartridges that I am considering at the moment. I'm leaning toward the Grado because I want to tame the high end, like when a singer is too close to the mic and the s is accentuated.
I don't know about y'all and this is not out of disrespect, but I had an opposite opinion off of his initial review. I chose sample b, and I thought the vocals were the best.
The Blue is the cartridge I received on my Fluance RT84. I can tell the BLue picks up more of the highest register offering a bit more clarity and presence.
Even with the caulking I finally saw the "light". If you get the stylus on the X THAT IS THE OVERHANG adjustment!!! Square up the cartridge or cantilever if your protractor has extra fine lines near the "X" mark. Seems to be the preference for more precise alignment
50 dollars for a plain, generic opamp phono board without power supply. Almost as much as one Mcdonalds lunch for two in today's (2024) "first world". But, nevertheless, a ripoff. Similar assembled boards sell for 0.5 to 2 dollars (more for a DIP socket version, less for hard-soldered SM opamp), or 5-10 dollars for a full package with box and wallwart. The cost of mine approaches 50, but this includes a heavy aluminum box, li-ion battery power supply, input resistor "freezing" and other goodies.
