bro after I started my pc the next day, all icons are black now, why? How can I fix it? I searched how to undo it but can't find the icons of all the apps anymore. I deleted the file with the custom icons and restarted my pc but it's still just a black box as an icon.. Even when I select the icon's for the apps I can't see the icons. Is there any way to fix it? All I see is the trash bin and folders the rest is all black
I know a Windows 11 update happened recently so I figured I would leave this info if you need to look into it more or experience it yourself. Currently on Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4317) When adding the reg key it seems to break a lot of things in Win 11, instantly noticeable by being unable to open task manager via any method. Removing the key restores functionality.
This worked great for me, but since the recent Windows Update this week, entering the line %windir%\System32\shell32.dll,-50 results in black boxes, and leaving the line out (as by the pinned comment) results in all icons disappearing. Any solution? Much appreciated
Hi I got this same error today when booting up my PC,unfortunately I don't know a fix for it.For the moment,I recommend you delete the Shell Icons folder entirely if you want your icons to work again.
@@oxideX97 thanks for replying, i did just that. as for the shortcut arrows, i found a free app named Winaero Tweaker, that has a lot of customization options for windows, including getting rid of the arrows (with just one click). Seems to work without problems so far.
this works for multiple months but after a long period of use it is somehow also causing all of my desktop icons to disappear, my task manager to be unable to be opened, and files properties unable to be viewed. i wouldve never thought that they were related but i finally found a random github comment that explained it so ig this isnt the best method (i was using the update from the top comment)
I encountered the same issue and suspected it might be related to a Regedit script. As a result, I decided to remove the Shell Icons key, which successfully restored the desktop icons and enabled the task manager.
