In the U.S. retirees with proper Medigap supplement such as Part G or Part N pay zero after their Part B deductible ($240). If the monthly premiums too high, get a high deductible Part G, and then 2,700 for the year then full coverage. Doesn't Spain tax foreigners on their pensions and social security? And the laws did change regarding taxes and can change at any time. Just visit and make sure you leave before 180 days each year.

What a pile of disinformation. First of all the Parisians arrondissements you painted as nice and pleasant, the central arrondissements are those with the highest crime in Paris, more than Gare du Nord. Violence in Paris is at the same level as in Seine Saint Denis, all the other suburbs have lower crime Source :the French police website. But yeah crime is overall low so there is no place in Paris which is dangerous per se not even at night. But yeah anecdotes happen like everywhere. Oh? And the crack addicts stay by themselves and don't attack people. Bad sensationalist reporting.

Please stop coming to Costa Rica to live. You people are pricing out locals when it comes to buying home and even renting. Making life for locals very difficult because our wages can’t keep up with the foreign money. Soon we will have to do like Barcelona Spain and make it very uncomfortable for tourists to live and create rules like rent control and no airbnbs and things like that.

Peru is actually okay to live in for an American expat. 1. Utility cost are low, my electric bill is $15 per month, water about $8, and internet is only $22. Property taxes on my apartment are less than $100 annually. 2. Food costs a bit less versus the USA in the grocery stores, and is far less if you shop in the huge public markets. 3. You don't need a car if you live in Lima. Bus service is excellent, taxis are dirt-cheap, and there's a new, modern subway system in some areas. Intercity bus service is excellent for the long tourist trips you may wish to take to the Amazon, Cusco, and Arequipa. 4. Restaurants are very good, including more than 1,000 Chinese places, all first-class and dirt-cheap. 5. Immigration process is relatively simple and inexpensive. 6. Real estate prices vary widely, you'll pay more in cleaner, safer middle-and upper-class areas, but they're far more pleasant and safer to live in than the many poor- and working-class parts of town. Overall, substantially less expensive than in the USA. 7. The women who possess substantial beauty here are some of the prettiest you'll ever encounter, and the ladies here know how to cook, unlike their counterparts in the USA My only downside with Peru is that I have been chronically targeted, stalked, harassed and threatened here by some sort of a local criminal organization since 2015. I've been told I would never leave Peru alive, that they were going to sabotage my luggage with drugs (magic powder) at the Lima airport (while I was waiting to fly to the US to see my dying mother one last time, these drug dealers are sick, sociopathic scum.) Your experience here will hopefully better than mine, and about the best advice I can offer to those who wish to escape the USA before its final collapse into utter chaos is this 1. If you´re thinking of immigrating here to Peru, come visit with a group of friends and stay for at least a month, renting a stay in a home on Airbnb or similar. 2. Rent in one of the nicer areas of Lima, and preferably from an owner who is a USA expat and/or speaks perfect English. 3. Daily, immerse yourself in local culture (always travel together in a group for added safety). Keep a journal of your daily experiences, both good and bad. Compare notes with those of your friends. After your month-long immersion stay, honestly ask yourself if you can not only function in, but also actually enjoy living in Peruvian society - or not. If you can say ´yes,´ then that´s wonderful! Head back home start packing and prepare for a new life in South America! However, even if your answer is ´no,´ then at least you had a nice extended stay vacation-adventure, and most likely learned a few things about not only Peru, but also yourself.

I’ve been to every country in Latin America. Personally, I wouldn’t have Chile on this type of list. It’s too expensive. Brasil is better in my opinion. This is coming from someone who speaks Spanish and very little Portuguese. Spent a year in Brasil and a few months in Chile. Much preferred Brasil.

As pointed out by many here already your information on taxes and US retirees in France is totally false. As for crime if you are coming from the US you will be MUCH safer in France. With a murder rate of 1.35 per 100,000 people France has 400% fewer murders per 100,000 than the US, at 5.35 per 100000. All areas of crime, burglary, rape, are much higher in US. From example rape is 19% less than in the US. Don’t make videos on topics you know nothing about.

Fun Fact if you remove the 5 worst (Democrat run) cities with the worst homicide rates in the USA the USA drops to one of the 5 lowest homicide rates …. In the world. Just stay out of Chicago, New Orleans, St Louis, Baltimore and I think Oakland or DC, the USA homicide drops Dramatically as this 5 cities (or just the worst areas of those cities) account for well over 90% of all homicides. Anyway every country or has good and bad areas and if you avoid the bad areas and the “4 rules of stupidity” you should be fine. Of course it may cost you a lot more to live in those areas

Colombia gets a pretty bad rap but, I've lived in a relatively small town in Colombia for nearly 18 years and not only is it waaaayy less expensive than anywhere in the US, I've never felt threatened. High standard of living and very good health care system at a very low cost but, salaries are very, very low so, you must have an external source of income. The added bonus is, Colombia is super beautiful and the people are friendly and helpful, especially in the countryside and small towns.

Not everyone wants to move there and buy a house. Some (like us) would be interested in living there for a few months, spending our money to enrich the local economy, and renting a nice apartment. But..... most of the time videos like this just are not interested in pitching to visitors like us. If we aren't planning on moving there forever and buying a home these videos just aren't interested in us. Its a pity really because I think that there are far more possible mid term visitors like us than there are ones that want to move there and buy a home. I think you are completely missing the major source of income.

The French keep their childhood friends throughout their lives but do not look to the workplace to make new ones. Their attitude is that those friendships go south when they leave their employment, so why bother? A problem arises when they leave their homes to work in Paris & they maintain that belief. Loneliness causes some French to spiral into deep depression; a dirty secret of Paris is the relatively large number of lonely people hanging themselves in their cramped little apartments.

If you plan to move to any country, you need to learn the local language. Unfortunately, there's no substitute. Otherwise, you'll have trouble making friends regardless of the country. If you move to France to retire, chances are you are old, which means that you'll also be seeking to befriend retired French people. However, people tend to be pickier with their friends as they get older so it doesn't help! It's always easier to make friends when you're young. I don't think I'd ever consider moving to a new country JUST to retire. If I've lived in a given country, where I have roots, family and friends, might as well stay there till the end. However, I could definitely retire in a country that isn't mine if I've already done the work of building my life there. That's exactly my situtation. I'm an American working and living in France with my French wife and my kids who have dual citizenship. Whenever we retire, we'll most certainly stick around. If you really want to live abroad, I'd recommend to not wait until retirement. Everything will be easier if you do it before. As the saying goes: you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Non car j'aurais choisi d'aller m'y installer.

I think you need to confirm the tax statements. As I understand it, American retirees only pay the US and nothing to France because of the tax treaty between the two countries. You do have to show you paid your home country. I never heard the tax being 40% unless the person is working or runs a business in France. Per quick Google search: Under Article 18 of the U.S./French Income Tax Treaty, distributions from U.S. retirement accounts made to a French resident are only taxable in the U.S. Notably, Roth IRAs are considered U.S. retirement accounts and specifically covered by the treaty, preserving their tax-free nature in France.

American pensions received by retirees in France, including Social Security, 401K and IRA plans, will be taxable in the United States under the France/United States double tax treaty.
