Its not cheating to trace. You cant pull a good piece by tracing unless you actually know what you're doing. Ecellent advise. Thanks for this video.

Thank you! I think school just ingrained tracing is cheating, but I agree if you use it as a base a finished piece really requires skill

This is terrific. I have not had the best of luck with padding a dress form to match a certain client's measurements and she doesn't live close. This is a great help. My only suggestion would be to add various lines with a marker before removing it from your body: waist, princess seams from the shoulder, side seams, neck, etc.

yeah yours worked out better than mine. Found a tutorial on a website but didn't want to ask anyone 's help. Meh. I stuffed mine wit old clothes but it's kinda heavy. You can also use a clothing hanger to hang it, if it's not too heavy. Make a hole in the cardboard neck piece, put the hanger's head through, and i guess put it in before you tape the length back together after cutting it.

Yeah very glad I found some pillow with poly fill so it could be light and cheap bc otherwise idk what I would have done, good solution with the clothes though! Good idea on the clothes hanger too! Forgot not everyone has a mannequin stand lying around lol

Hers drapes more securely because of the silver fabric the chains are draped on, but I like yours better because as you displayed, you can fashion it over many different outfits for different effects. I also think it looks better with more body coverage like your examples had. You got inspired and made it your own! Great job!

I definitely struggle with "It's not perfectly how it was in my head, so I can't continue." So your two year gap I fully understand. The number of half-started projects, or projects only on paper, or only in my head: embarrassing. Sometimes powering through and just DOING it can be its own reward: even if it's not perfect, it's done. And that's better than not being done at all. If this is a learning experience, and one has the motivation for a second attempt at the same concept- having learned what does and does not work- then the second take can be even better. Thank you for illustrating how even a "fail," (which I would say this still looks pretty cool and you should be proud, even if it's not perfectly what you had in mind) can be a win. Whether it turns out pretty okay, or even if only as a learning experience, doing is the key. Doing something is better than not doing something. I know this is a lesson I am constantly trying to teach myself.
@SabrinaSkullyFX

Thank you so much for watching! Yes! I feel like all artists struggle with the perfection issue. And I agree, sometimes I really think good enough us better than never finishing anything. But I too have a mountain of half finished projects. One day! Lol
