🇺🇸 delegate and USMC Colonel MOS0203, ground intelligence officer. Here is my take. Those who are complaining about the horrible conditions of black facilities during the apartheid regime, are sure being quiet about the conditions today by the by the ANC regime.
I've learned a great deal more about apartheid & sport - thanks to Ron Pickering (and Shaun! Thanks for posting). My parents were v keen on cricket - and the D'Oliveira incident was BIG in my household.
The British at the time banned sporting links with South Africa yet they played football and rugby against Argentina and football against Chile and Brazil while these countries were committing human rights abuses under military rule another was Spain where British clubs played Spanish clubs in European competition when Spain was under the dictatorship of General Franco and were even running, skipping, jumping, swimming against the communist run Eastern Europe who themselves were committing human rights abuses
I wonder what this Pommie reporter has to say now if he goes to the Carlton Hotel in the JHB CBD ? That's if he is brave enough to set foot in the Rainbow nations JHB CBD ! 😂
Maybe time for another such Documentary, 30 years into multi-racial, multi-cultural DEMOCRACY. Our population has increased by over 20 million people and another few million illegal migrants. Many townships have trippled in population. FAMILY PLANNING, perhaps as a start amongst many other things...?
A fine example of racism is to visit a shopping mall near you. You will struggle to see a member of the White race working in that zone . Their money is welcome but don't expect chain stores and malls to employ you if you are deemed to be a white person. Sadly, corporates perpetuate racism by complying with ANC evil labour laws that are despicable and against universal human rights. There are many white people who did not complete their schooling or do not have a degree that would be happy to work as a cashier, shelf packers, storeman, driver or shop assistant etc but owing to their skin colour they can't secure these ordinary jobs. The Toxic ANC GOVERNMENT is perpetuating racism with their evil labour legislation that contravene universal human rights laws. Sadly, It's also a fact whites with degrees likewise battle to secure positions .
Early 80s but magnificent reporting. You wonder how much it impacted as you did have cricket and rugby cuntservative types at the time demanding reintegration.
@@alphapen_dragon8554 The only blacks that were against apartheid were the blacks that were Communist and that were members of the ANC. Most of the blacks were happy and were ok with apartheid.
@@alphapen_dragon8554 Because they were hoodwinked by the Black Marxists especially the youth who didn't know any better. The country is a squalor just a cesspool apartheid was not good but it was better than this so called democratic rainbow nation.
Well well, looks like we got keyboard warrior ..in the words of Jonathan pie … people who attack others cos. They make mistakes with grammar or spelling who made you god @@hlesko3254
Apartheid controlled the Savages. Look at the country now after the Savages got their 'freedom' and took control. But they will continue to blame Apartheid. What a mess. Liberalism is a mental disease.
15.19 Bare in mind you didn’t sit in an African shop either. They would have told you to move on as well. Both being wrong. Why do you always take one side?
During apartheid africans were killed for fun and then buried in the backyard. It wasnt a problem, because these people didnt count. While on the other Hand the Anc spared the lives of people like Dr. Death or others from the special squads if they commited in the truth commission. I doubt that the chinese or indians would have done that.
Those who complained about facilities for black people being appalling during the 80s under the apartheid government are very quiet on the lack of facilities under the ANC regime.
Good and rare record. The heyday of South Africa's segregationist regime was in the 1960s and 1970s. And with an economic boom that benefited the whole country, the ENTIRE country, again. However, after the fall of friendly countries such as Mozambique and Rhodesia, in addition to the end of the gold-dollar standard in the international monetary system in 1971, the country's economy was severely affected and did not return to the excellent performance of before, entering a chronic crisis. in the 80s. Not to mention the definitive spike in oil prices, which South Africa has always been dependent on. Therefore, it would no longer be possible to maintain a police state for so long, with defense spending growing exponentially, as well as the weight of international sanctions. In this regard, the end of the USSR in 1991 helped a lot to make the transition to post-apartheid without a civil war possible in the AFR. From the South and beyond, Namibia can be saved by giving it independence without it falling as it was with Angola and Zimbabwe for example. May the Boer country rise again and become a land of prosperity.
I was a 17 year old YTS trainee at the time of this footage and remember Ron Pickering presenting We are the Champions when I was growing up. Pickering died when I was not yet 21! My sport is cricket.
Xhosas and Zulus to be correct. Many brits said that the irish had destroyed the beutiful Island, this lazy drunkards, but noone said whites destroyed the island after 1920. For the brits ireland was wonderful.. Btw During apartheid africans were killed for fun and then buried in the backyard. It wasnt a problem, because these people didnt count. While on the other Hand the Anc spared the lives of people like Dr. Death or others from the special squads if they commited in the truth commission. I doubt that the chinese or indians would have done that.
The voice of his sport, like Dan Maskell or John Arlott, authoritative, knowledgeable and always on the athlete's side. Died relatively young, and a great loss. Great too on We are the Champions and Superstars. Thanks for the upload so we can remember a great person who deserves to live on in this way.
Shaun, thank you for posting this and all the other great programmes that your father made. He was a great commentator and sports mad enthusiast. Much missed!
