Very late to the party with this comment but I've only just found the video while searching for D213 images. 40013 Andania was the loco that my grandfather drove on his last day before retiring from BR in the late 60's, we recently came across a photo of him leaning out of the cab at the end of his last shift, and as Andania is still running in splendidly restored form under the stewardship of LMS Ltd in Crewe we asked them if we could recreate the photo for the family album, they were brilliant and arranged for my son and I join the loco in Crewe at the end of it's whistling highlander tour to take the picture. It's so interesting to see 40013 in it's BR blue colours as she is now resplendent in green.

I remember being hauled by one these Sulzers to Leeds from Kings X and returning to Kings X behind one of them, I didn’t know what they were at the time but I thought they were fantastic, with the three window sections and the nose, such an air of travel. you really felt you were going somewhere, I remember walking past the flank of the Sulzer at Kings X after arriving with this huge tumbling noise of the Sulzer under roof of Kings X , I absolutely loved them

Cheers mate. There was something more "wholesome" about actually being a bloke back then. Now all these daft lads who live on the tick and in fear of losing their lifestyles for fear of saying something unPC try so hard to look like men.... Ridiculous! Give me a ten pack of embassy cigs and 2 or 3 pints of whitbread trophy after work any day before a gym session with the personal trainer, a watermelon vape, skinny latte and an appointment with the tattoo artist!

I needed to know why they don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so that they can extend the unused abandoned underground train stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into Five cars per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Cummins M11, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner LG1200 and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers. A Stock Train and 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the Waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it more Larger and extend it to the bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Railway tunnel into a High-Speed Railway lines? The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Railway line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. Then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised Waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 47 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project if that will be OK for London Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from the Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden more Easily. Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly Line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street can they also make another brand new underground train station in Chingford and could they extend the Piccadilly Line and the DLR right up to Chingford? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner LG1200, Cummins M11 and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Its brilliant to see the spotters at 1:50 all sat on the platform, there for the day. And that 40086 flying in and out of the station, no messing about, the drivers and 2nd knew it all so well. Every train that ran was full of spotters and hanging out of the carriage having the best time - 4:50 is brilliant!! Exuberance and not a middle finger from any of them! Its great that on a line coming down in HST's the 40s were the interest-point. Thank goodness for Mel and your Dad. That cab footage out of Lime St 19:57 is amazing!! In an 87? And then the double header film alongside - I bet that was all arranged on the quiet! 25:01 bloody joyous! Those two 25s look like theyre struggling after 35 mins of watching powerful 40s!

I seem to recall something similar, 31132 vo OC was on 1E10, the 07.00 Bristol to Leeds, I did it from Chesterfield when someone who was flailing in Bradway tunnel between Chesterfield and Sheffield clipped his hand on a class 47 hauled train heading South. I didn't see the chap at Sheffield as I had a tight connection there, but apparently the class 47 driver reported hitting something in the tunnel, this would be 81 or 82.

As the song says "those were the days my friend I thought they'd never end" we all took it for granted, mk1s, loco hauled trains, relief trains at bank holidays instead of cancellations or bus replacement, vacuum braked overnight trains, adex, mystery excursions, I could go on, but they did end. I did 40181 Manchester to Sheffield on that day which was 40 years ago this Summer, 2024. Thanks for posting, brings back happy memories.

Nice, I grew up by the Lydgate viaduct in the 60's and 70's, the 40's could be heard from a long way off with their turbines whining after short thrashes. Every bit as good as the steam engines and even better when they were banked up with steam.

Wonderful nostalgia, never to be repeated. So much variety, and comfortable seats! .Compare the difference between a Voyager and a Mark 1! I travelled on a 221 from Bristol Parkway to Birmingham N.S. recently, in 50 years of train travel, I've never been so uncomfortable for so long. The seat was like an ironing board. It may be my imagination, but the Mark 1 passenger coach at 2.30 looks like it's riding on Mark 3 bogies., or at the very least they're surely non-standard.

Good point. I've tried to get the image magnified up, and initially, I thought as you suggested, B4's. Comparing B4s and Commonwealths, The upper beam of each bogie appears to be wider than found in those two designs. Whatever the answer Jake, your videos capture the atmosphere of train spotting back in the days when you never quite knew what was coming around the corner next, perfectly.
