I wouldn't mind sharing my large outdoor space with skunks, IFF the smell and risk of getting sprayed wasn't there. I know thiols, acetates and sulfides are the main olfactory offenders here. Is there any way, via diet or otherwise, to lessen the animals production of these substances?

I have had Skunks under my shed for more than 6 years now. I have only discovered where they were living 2 weeks ago! Coming out of my garage one night was a new experience in the dark. I nearly stepped on him/her/it and the Skunk seemed to be as terrorized as I was because both of us took off in opposite directions! An outside light came in handy later!

Humane harassment, I love it! A number of years ago our dog was sprayed, what a mess! Recently we had a mother with babies under our shed. Fortunately we no longer have any pets but we were still concerned since we found a dead skunk in the yard with a frothy mouth, yikes! I did some research and learned all the things you reviewed. We were patient and they have moved on. Thanks for the good advice. 😊

The one I have has dug a hole down the foundation of the front of my house behind my bushes. Its right where my waterline enters my home. I need them to go. I started to play Coyotes sound at the window and try to bother them.., I am going to have my son cut back the bushes on the end so they are more exposed and looking into traps or somewhat to catch them so they wont return

For their size, they are a major destructive pest. Like little bitty feral hogs. We can't have any food plants, and they eat our flowers, too. They graze like deer, a few bits here, some over there, etc. Deer, groundhogs, rabbits, voles, insects, birds. We can grow marigolds, nothing likes them. Various types of cosmos, etc.

There's a groundhog who's addicted to our chicken's food, and will invade the run during the day multiple times to eat it. We have a treadle feeder now because we had a rat infestation IN the run at one point, and after I closed off the run, which is mostly chicken wire and furring strips, it came in through the henhouse nesting box area, freaking out the hens. So I closed the run off completely, and now we've discovered that it broke into the run--I had it cornered up there, looking at the hole in the wall it'd made, when it dashed out through a hole in the door that I didn't see. So it's a large problem, because having a large rodent breaking into the run to eat their food is bad enough, it opens the run for other predators like raccoons, possums, foxes, and weasels to eat the chickens themselves at night! I finally opened up the run and put a large brick on the feeder to keep it closed, and will set a Have A Heart trap tomorrow with fermenting cantaloupe, which I hear they really enjoy, and put it back in the woods behind the run in hopes that the groundhog will go for it instead of their food. It sucks for the hens, though, because they get hungry during the day, so I put food for them on our porch right outside the door, instead, and wonder how long it will be before the groundhog might come there, too. The only burrow I've discovered is across the street, in wilderness next to a creek area, and it roams in multiple backyards on this side of the street. It is cute, but super quick and ravenous and it does not respect boundaries at all.

Skunks don't like to spray so they'll not spray if given the choice. So as long as you don't startle them and even if you do startled them if you quietly just back away they will not spray. They would rather run away from you. So just better to leave them alone everything she says is so true

Do skunks ever leave gifts, like some birds do? There was a rock (2.5"?) on my back step this morning. It rained just before dark last night, so the step was clear at that time. I've had shoes go missing off the back step a few times, but read that foxes run off with shoes. Do all skunks spray? These have only been coming around a couple of months or so, but I have never smelled skunk odor. I don't know if there is anything cuter than a tiny skunks. Such fancy creatures! ❤

We have rescued 2 small skunks and think the mother was hit by a car and killed. That was about 4 days ago.. today we saw 2 babies wondering around in the heat very unsteady on their feet. we are feeding them some goats milk via suringe. they are not eating any fruit/catfood mushed up. they are drinking the milk. we are feeding them every 3 hours 2 grms of milk, they have peed and pooped. We stimulated them and they peed, but they pooped on their own. should we not worry about stimulating them since they did poop on their own? are we giving the enough millk?

I post mostly videos about things caught on my security cameras. I have a few fox videos, but the one that went crazy as far as views was one where an opossum was sleeping one Winter in one of my outdoor cat's heated bed. I'll have to start posting videos of the opossums. There is one that appears to be full grown yet on the small side. It started appearing about 1 and 1/2 years ago. It's pretty scraggly looking but has two big white patches of fur on it's back. Very recognizable. I wish people would stop calling them "possums", possums are a completely different animal. I have a lot of armadillos as well and a groundhog that visits daily. A couple of things that I think is so sad about these guys is their short life expectancy. Also most people don't know that the females only have 13 teets and they can have upwards of 15, 20, 25 babies. As soon as they are born, they most generally find a teet and hang on to it. They begin to get stronger and the weaker ones get left out of feeding which causes them to have a higher mortality rate. So most generally if the opossum has 20 babies for example, most time only 13 will survive. Could you imagine if that same scenario was applied to humans? A female lady has triplets, quintuplets, etc.?
