Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina (PEFNC) is a statewide organization that supports parental school choice. We believe in allowing families to select their school of choice -- public, private or nontraditional -- regardless of address or income.
I have 2 children that receive the opportunity scholarship. It has been a blessing beyond words for our family and has changed the course of my children's lives. Without this scholarship my children would not be able to attend a school that provides them with the resources they need to succeed and an environment that is more aligned with our family's values. The opportunity scholarship allows qualified families to use a PORTION of the $10,000-$12,000 per pupil funding NC allocates for k-12 education (that every NC child is entitled too and their parent's tax dollars also help pay for), and use these funds to help cover the costs of private school tuition. The remaining balance of $10,000-$12,000 per pupil funding after the portion is deducted for the opportunity scholarship, remains with the NC education department and is still used to help support the public school system. School choice and the opportunity scholarship empowers parents with the ability to choose the right education opportunity for their children by helping reduce the financial burden that would have otherwise prevented access to these options and resources; giving parents the ability to provide their children with the resources they need and the education they deserve.
I have 2 kids on the Opportunity Scholarship at a school that is a much better fit for them than the traditional public school. Love this program! The dollars should always follow the backpack!

I used to go here... worst 2 years of my life the teachers were too strict and a bit mean, I mean not horrible but ... I think you know what I mean. I now go to a public school (Thank god) and I have a ton of new friends and very nice teachers. Have a great 2018-2019 year scholars..!
Yay! My grandson's school, & they are great! Ms. Montgomery is his teacher, & she's awesome. I appreciate Ms. Brooks b/c she was one of the teachers I met while touring the school. Principal Preston always greets us with a big smile! And I cannot forget Ms. Frieda Logan in the office. She is always there to help a parent or grandparent!) out! I feel so very fortunate to be a part of Brookstone Schools!
