3:16 The way Dennis responds to Greg’s two hand fill by single-handing it and doubling the length is just so sick…I have to say I’d feel pretty embarrassed!
I like Dennis' playing but i hated this... a very fast noise maker, also repetitive. Speed is very impressive though looks faster because of how much he uses his arms and keeps doing the same amount of notes on random drums and cymbals. Zero musicality. Still an amazing drummer don't get me wrong, but i really dislike his solos.
Years ago I saw one of their concerts in Rome. Two SPECTACULAR black dancers were present on stage accompanying the music with perfect choreography. They changed their clothes with each song and in my opinion THEY WERE PERFECT. Music and dance in perfect harmony, never vulgar but very sensual. Unforgettable concert. After all, even the instrumentalists dance and even the audience, who was sitting on the chairs, after the first five minutes couldn't resist and dragged by the music and the dancers they started dancing in their turn!
OMG, why would they put these women on stage when we already had Phillip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson….??? EWF stands on its own, they are brilliant, and no accessories are required.
Dennis great but he s showing his cards too much , at the begining So except epileptic playing there s nothing more left . Greg i love but Luigi play different melodies in it
This was painful to watch. What an absolute insult to Dennis to pair him up with these other two. I love both the other cats in their own right and I have even met Greg and Dennis, both are really good dudes and killer players. But Greg and Louie simply had no biz sharing stage with Dennis, absolutely none and they would have prolly stated the same thing. Dunno what idiot thought this was a great match.... SMH. Dennis should have been with Vinnie & Dave. Shame. Many would have loved to have seen that trio! The world will never know what might have happened with those 3 together instead.
This night was about drum endorsements and selling gear. Greg Bissonette and Denis Chambers were on Pearl's roster and I guess they fitted Louis in there with his Remo kit. Yamaha wanted Gadd, Weckle and Colaiuta to play together. They were Yamaha's biggest salesmen at that time. All six of them were Zildjian players back then. This was the heyday of drum endorsements, when players actually got payed to play products. They wouldn't want their brands in competition, so they divided the trios that way. The Buddy Rich memorial concert video was a massive plug for drum and cymbal manufactures , and I'm sure those companies gave sponsorship money to the live event and cost of producing the DCI film as they knew it would be seen by hundreds and thousands of drummers.
@@mancuniancandidatem wow! I had no idea …….. and that totally makes sense. I did not even consider that element of marketing by these brands. I have nothing against these brands selling their products. For us fans, it would have been a treat to see Dennis better matched….. but I get it. Thanks for that insight!
@@kyaushasimpson3940 when you danced "rock it" at a concert in Montreux in 1997, were you wearing pantyhose or not? Just in the video of the concert in Montreux it seemed that you had bodily tights
Paul Bentley facts. I definitely like that trio a little more. There’s was a little more organized. Each person had 4 measures to solo. This was more of a on a whim type video.
@@rj5697 But Dennis. Just wow. I've seen people play the parts from the Weckl/Colaiuta/Gadd solo verbatim, but never seen anyone do what Dennis does here.
These are awesome but @the end of this Buddy Rich Memorial...there will be an really alltime best drummers-trio...."Vinnie Collaiuta - Dave Weckl and Steve Gadd"....
I hope Dennis plays as well as Lois at his age. Amazing. Lois looks so good. Notice how Lois chokes up on his left stick when he switches to matched grip... Thanks for this rare and epic vid.
I hate this version of this song! Why did they put this girl in the song, trying to dance sexual. It takes away from the song. This song is not sexual, it's about being inspired and the horns are mostly missing in the beginning of the song. They are so talented they don't need sex to help them out with this song. Very disappointing version of this song
Cathy Waller I know this was three years ago but you are absolutely wrong LOL you all right about it being an inspirational song but keep in mind you still had the dance off the song the song was funky definitely Pro black you can't make an inspiring song without dancing to it and you know us as black people we going to make it sexual and funky that's how we do it to almost every song I remember Verdine White said with the new generation they had to play the songs a little different from the radio version they had to make it Funky enough for them to get into it and keep the older crowd entertain as well
