The worst person in all of this is Tamara. Second is Robert because being the oldest involved, he should know better and have more emotional and social sophistication…. But I guess that would have entered in ridiculous fiction territory as the average man doesn’t gain any development, sxual skills or sophistication past age 16…
Do a dumb hoe who prefers the chase better than the catch finally gets the guy, fucks him and then stops talking to him. Tells her friends a fake story like he’s a creep and he’s the weird one? Do to this to a bitch and she will spray paint your car and everyone around will cheer her on.
Imagine being such a lame person that you sleep with someone you don’t like and for what? Sex is supposed to be intimate and special. And Margot is so desensitized to it that she slept with someone she didn’t know or find attractive. Not to even mention Robert being weird and immature.
Sex isn't always intimate and special for some people. Some like it because it's fun, feels good, and that casual sex can be fun. Nothing in this novel is outright abusive (apart from the ending), and both characters were consenting adults and I think the lead just wanted to experiment. I doubt Margot really felt in control of the situation at all and was trying to convince herself that she was. I think the relationship between Robert and Margot continued by Margot giving Robert her number was out of Margot 1, not wanting to come off as rude or disrespectful, 2, she wanted to experiment (she's in college, it's what people do there), and 3, she was somewhat manipulated by Robert's attempts. There is a difference between outright insulting someone or mocking them and turning someone down. This story is incredibly accurate to a lot of experiences many young girls have had. Just look at the comments, think about the author. It's not hard to think of where the author got the idea and inspiration to write this.
Margot isn't a perfect character. You could make the case that "Sex is supposed to be intimate and special" and perhaps that's what this story is getting at. Margot sleeps with Robert on their 'first date' out of an impulse and it leads to Robert becoming abusive and creepy to her. When Margot was just texting or talking to Robert, Robert was a lot more disconnected and they were both having a lot more fun in the relationship.
The picture on the cover of this book is WRONG! Dolan's Cadillac was a sedan.....meaning a four-door car. This picture shows a Coupe de Ville. This kind of error is inexcusable since the car in this story is of paramount importance.
... You are right a sedan is defined as a 4-door passenger car .. The picture is wrong ... This is one great story auidobook even if the picture is not right ...
What a wonderful story and interview! I actually first heard this read as a high schooler in the late 80s on NPR (I no longer recall the show) but it stuck with me all these decades. I googled it using the author’s name, short story, man disguised as woman, shtetl. I got lots of results for Yentl of course but at the bottom of the list was Disguised- behind a paywall. Then - your video! Thank you so much for this!
Too bad this story was written before this awesome quote from Kill Bill Vol. 1: "When fortune smiles on something as violent and ugly as revenge, it seems proof like no other that not only does God exist, you're doing His will."--Beatrix Kiddo
Revenge is of this world, God is of the world after. You have no need for both. Why too bad? Plenty was written about revenge before Kill Bill Vol. 1, most of it expressed better than a movie ever could. Besides, revenge seems to be the only subject matter Tarantino is interested in.
@@simonfrederiksen104 Because I actually like the quote and thought it was better than the tired "Revenge is a dish best served cold" and the countless repeats of this quote. I'm also a Quentin Tarantino fan. Also, what's up with the sermon/lecture? I liked the quote. That's it. No more no less.
@@yvonnewilson2242 Sermon? I merely gave you a saying in the spirit of "Revenge is a dish best served cold." "Revenge is of this world, God is of the world after. You have no need for both." Or if you prefer. "Seek God or seek revenge." as for "When fortune smiles on something as violent and ugly as revenge, it seems proof like no other that not only does God exist, you're doing His will."--Beatrix Kiddo I frankly find mixing personal revenge with the will of an entity like a or the god grandiose, juvenile or simply delusional. And I still can't figure out why you would say it's "Too bad" it was written before Kill Bill. I don't get it. Did Tarantino do something to the subject revenge that you believe would have influenced King in a way to improve the text?
@@simonfrederiksen104 Ah. I misunderstood. I didn't know that what you've said was an actual quote from any work. And since I didn't see quotes around it, I thought you were actually preaching to me. My bad. To me, the Tarantino quote sounds better. This is not a slight against Stephen King's writing because the quote he used wasn't his. I also think Tarantino's quote matches the story because against all odds, the protagonist got away with it. No interference, no Deus Ex Machina. In a literary way, God smiled on the vengeance against Dolan because nothing interfered with it. That's basically what that quote really means. This is not a comparison of King vs. Tarantino. I liked the quote. That's it. I get you see it a juvenile but again it's a matter of opinion. I am in no way saying King needs to improve his text because the quote he used wasn't even his. If I'm seen as less intellectual because I preferred a Tarantino quote over the cliched one, then I guess I'll be that.
@@yvonnewilson2242 Ah okay, I get it, I'm not religious myself, by the way. As for Tarantino he's is all about the presentation, to me all of his work comes across like some artist doing a performance piece, an art installation, not like someone trying to tell a story about people. They are caricatures every single time, meat puppets moved into position to facilitate the bloody end. Bugs me. Mean if you're into it, great, but it's the same revenge as the central theme again and again, he's just presenting the blood, guts and ground chuck flying around differently from movie to movie. At least King is trying to tell a story, some might even say he's clearly in no hurry to finish it and see the credits roll. By the way, have you seen Dolan's Cadillac, the movie with Christian Slater? Pretty well made. streamm4u.com/watch/movie/dolans-cadillac-2009.19244.html
He seems generally ok at first even if not he kind of guy I'd want to spend time with. But as the story goes on, he gets sadder and more desperate. By the very end, he finally tips into the "wow, this guy sucks" category
I wrote this article about my "bedroom difficulties", inspired by the Cat Person story. Hope to inspire some other young women to share about their problems too. medium.com/@recoveryrapper/after-years-of-having-sex-against-my-will-im-finally-able-to-say-no-here-s-how-c6e258c1f682
Strange, really enjoyed reading it and thought it is to reflect how neurotic, insecure and sexually immature women are today. Then Roupenian said in an interview that she likes Margot. What a misunderstanding.
Did... did you even read the story? It's clearly about how Robert is childish, to the point of dating a girl that is twenty when he's in his mid thirties. How can you misunderstand a story so badly?!
