While Teng Yi was ahead of his time, his limitations got exposed by Waldner. Waldner could comfortably loop slow, deep balls to Teng’s backhand without having to worry about Teng replying with a step-back backhand drive (or loop or even punch). These shots by Waldner were left unpunished. All that came back was a block, and a block off of a slow shot is usually not a very effective shot.
Modern (and early) Table Tennis should follow the "spirit of competition". I don't believe anyone could in good conscience could disagree. Debate if you will but you will be decimated!
Ha Eric is lightning quick and always thinking. He spent his life perfecting that style.Genius.All with the 38 ball which made the spin or lack of spin even more difficult.I think long pips and medium pips should be outlawed.Even the player using that rubber doesnt know what they are putting on the ball.I bet Eric would not care one bit,he just knows how to handle it.Why I am not on the Video !
They picked up their own ball, didn't stall at every serve, and didn't take a 30 second towel break every 6 points of the match. Even the camera angle is much better than what you see nowadays. Man, table tennis really used to be much more fun to watch.
