Loved this show since I first seen it late at night in the late 90s on, of all channels TG4, an Irish language channel in Ireland...but they didn’t dub it or anything...for some reason they got HBO shows all the time! I picked up the whole season on DVD later...I could tell you about any character... You guys know that in real life they are brothers too yeah? How’d you like THEM apples?!! (If you know you know!)
Querns throwing up was a great touch and I think was meant to symbolize that although he was more of an outward hard-ass than Glynn, he was more compassionate and had a better moral compass than law = good
I told my daughter about this scene. She heard him screaming for Ryan & broke down into tears without even watching it. This scene still breaks my heart. 💔😭 Poor Cyril
Just remember folks...GOP controlled states STILL DO THIS to the mentally disabled. In the US you can be mentally delayed and Republicans will murder you to prove how "touch" on crime they are (well, not tough on GOP crimes, just the poor and mentally disabled). If you like the wanton murder of the mentally disabled...continue voting GOP.
I think this scene actually humanizes Quarns a bit. As he's looking at the phone you can tell he doesn't real want to do this. When he looks at the woman (can't remember her name) he's eyes are saying "I wish the govenor would stop me but he hasn't". Then when pukes he's obviously in as much physical distress as he is emotional.
I wish I never came across with this story. I have been now having nightmares about the execution and waken up with tears in my eyes. And now after the nightmares, even when I think about it soberly, I couldn't help but break into uncontrollable cry.
Man, most of Cyril’s “bad behavior” was provoked by other inmates and most times it happened for no reason. But he couldn’t express that, and the fact that he needed extra attention made it so that they wanted to get rid of him.
The whole point of it all indeed. There are bad things happening when the others are not looking like the stuff that happened to Cyril. When they stood-up for themselfs or prevent... They get punished and send to solitary.
I remember seeing this episode with my sister and crying like a baby. I was in the front sofa so she couldn't see me but i was crying like a bitch from preambule until this point of the scene. Poor Cyril.
I think this was to highlight when a real mentally handicapped person was executed. During his last meal as he was being walked to the chair he told the prison guard not to throw away one of the items he was eating during his last meal because he was going to eat it later when he returned.
