I recently read this and enjoyed it a lot** I went into it knowing that it was one of king's most ridiculous books and that alone made the ride very enjoyable. I love Jim's character. King's ability to use evil to describe group think taking over a town is just so good and he's done it with a few different books. Are some parts ridiculous and not realistic? Obviously!!! Did I take it for what it was (a crazy king book fueled by drugs) and enjoy it? Absolutely!
This book is nothing short of amazing. I have that same copy you have. Found it for $2 at a used bookstore last month. I went in with really no expectations, and I was amazed. So much tension and so well-written. I think I’ll always remember details of this one years later. McCammon is awesome. I loved Swan Song and I loved this one. Boy’s Life is good, too. I also have Gone South on my shelf and which will be my next McCammon read.
I thought the implication, at least in the OT days, was that anyone has the potential to become force sensitive since the force is basically the thing that connects all life? It's just about whether they choose to hone their dormant skills. Maybe I'm wrong though, I've never really gone far in the EU! Anyway, not sure what to think about Chewbacca having a life debt to Han. It kinda takes away the fun of their friendship by adding an obligation, or master/servant dynamic to it. I kinda saw them as partners in the movies!
I'm rereading Acorna The Unicorn Girl. I remember trying to read it when I was a kid, but I found it boring. But I love the idea of unicorn people from space! So now, I want to give it another try.
Great insights and thoughts! This series sounds so good. I agree that meeting Boba Fett this early is a bit of a misstep. Do you have or plan to discuss the comics or classic rpg? I picked up the rpg reprint for my stepson a few years ago but unfortunately he wasn’t interested. I still have it sealed on the shelf and remember having a blast playing it in the 90s. I also recall someone telling me that there was a lot of world building done by the comics. So just curious about your perspective. Great review!
There is so much Star Wars media out there, many of which is out of print or extremely expensive, that it would be too much of an undertaking to include comics or other material. So I decided on just the mainline books and novelizations, with a smattering of comics that I own.
That makes sense. It seems like Han and other bounty hunters a more interesting view of the Star War universe than Jedi. That alone makes me want to read this book.
@@FrostyKnives I visited her website and it says she was an important member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA). She even formed a committee to prevent writers from being scammed. What an amazing person. My interest is peaked for her original scifi works now. Thanks for this review. I’m definitely showing up for the next one!
RU-vid channel video has a bad SEO score of Due to this your subscribers and views are not increasing, and the titles, descriptions, and keywords SEO should be done correctly only then you will get good results. the same problem in Video every.
All the videos on your channel are fantastic. But your video views are lower. Because your optimization is very poor. Your optimization needs to improve as soon as possible.
I don’t like Stephen King anymore. I’m tired of his shitty politics, his obsession with Covid in every book, and his aging boomer droning. It’s getting hard for me even to go back and read his old stuff now, save for a couple.
I hope to read this soon. I've read Willie the Weirdo when it was originally released in McSweeney's 66 and didn't like it at all. Hope the other stories are better.
Top 6: Danny Coughlin; Answer Man; On Slide Inn Road; Rattlesnakes; Dreamers; Two Talented Bastids. The other 6 stories are just fillers--to make the book a book. Every collection has its fillers. Question for you and others: How does this collection measure up to the other SK collections? I'd put this one at #3, behind Skeleton Crew and Night Shift.
You’re King book reviews have always been my favorite. I will enjoy this review series so much. I may try to read in publishing order along with you. I’ve read a lot but many many I will be reading for the first time.
Wait, so this plays it straight as a kid's book when you read it? That's not what I was expecting, haha! I figured it was a 'fake' children's book and had some gruesome illustrations and story. But yeah that's cool when a piece of media within a fictional story gets made as a piece of merchandise! Good review :)
I actually just finished Wizard and Glass for the first time yesterday, and I will say Eddie defeating Blaine with the hint that was actually in this book is my favorite thing in the whole series so far. Also, the parts with Jake reading this book was one of my favorite parts in The Waste Lands. Reminded me of reading those Golden Books for kids I had back when I was a kid. I did see this on Amazon but haven't gotten it yet. I plan to eventually though. Never thought I'd see a review of it though (maybe one exists on RU-vid, but I haven't bothered to look for it myself lol). Nicely done
