John and Catherine are a husband and wife team from Redding, Connecticut. We grow food and flowers on just under 2 acres of property, but we just bought 40 acres of land and are working on building our small farm from the ground up using reclaimed materials whenever possible.
We have chickens which we raise to have a colorful egg basket, have a small herd of alpacas (Pumpkin, Mocha, Marshmellow, Maycee, Linda, Connie and Sophie), and three dopey Great Danes (Pepper, Peanut and Pebbles). We also keep honey bees and will be looking forward to making maple syrup next year!

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I won't be buying any of the Coseytown or KA varieties. I'm getting a little fed up with all the gouging. Even Floret has become way to pricey, but at least they are not asking for royalties on what those 17.00 packets of seeds produce. There are TONS of people wanting to buy tubers, your business should not be in harming your fellow community to make a buck.
I watch another RU-vid channel where a lady takes all kinds of rescue farm animals in and she’s got several male alpacas, no female ones. This lady will put a whole bunch of treats in her pocket and believe me when I tell you she gets bombarded. They will all get in her face while she’s trying to give them all treats and then comes all of the spitting at each other and at her, practically knocking her over. There is one alpaca in particular who has started to jump up on her like the alpacas do when they fight each other. And instead of stopping feeding them, she rewards the behavior with even more treats. Do you have any advice that I could give to her?
Gosh yeiks. It sounds like you know how unhealthy this behavior is, and I don't think any advice coming from us will change her behavior. She is putting herself and her animals into a dangerous situation from your description of it.
@@OldReddingFarm your right, I don’t anything I would say would change how she does things. What’s crazy is I think on TikTok she’s got over 3 million followers. lol As a person she really great, she’s funny, she puts outfits on one of her emus for her videos and I can’t lie it really is funny. I just worry that she’s gonna get really hurt. One of her animals already kicked and broke her ankle and she had to have surgery on it. Anyway I really appreciate you commenting back, thanks.😊
They don't actually do all that much pooping in the water. Ducks are 'filter feeders' and will scoop up mud and dirt in their mouths, and swish through the water to filter out tiny things like seeds, tiny invertebrates, etc. The dirt comes out and the edibles stay in. But yes, it absolutely makes a huge mess of the water! SO MUCH MUDDY SLUDGE! But this is a gorgeous duck palace. My guys would love to be able to access my swamp out back from their run, but there are 20+ of them, so it wouldn't work really well, unfortunately.
I agree with some but as a breeder, some of these are just ignorant. Not all of us breeders have Instagram, yes some of us use 👇, and some of us have family outside the country so do travel. None of that makes us scammers. Look for real things like 😡 reactions on scam page posts. Us breeders will put 😡 reactions to warn people that it's a scam page because scammers will delete comments but can't delete reactions. Yes scammers will post several times a day and many are dumb enough to steal watermarked pics from us breeders. Those are some things that should have been added to your video. Not petty things like not having Instagram, traveling outside the country, or not wanting to pay for a website when this is a hobby not a full time job.

each of the wire runs, are you looping them so they complete a full "circle"? Meaning, they aren't just dead ended? I am having trouble figuring out why my fence isn't going live. I see no wires touching metal, and no sticks or anything touching the wires. I've actually got it down to just the very top wire run solo, and I still have no voltage running through. If I just put a little one foot long wire on the box, it has power as just a dead ended wire
i'm sorry for your loss. i see two possible scenarios here: emus are normally pretty docile creatures, so either something in the environment is stressing all the emus, or the aggressive female had some kind of issue predisposing it to aggressive behaviour, which was stressing the other emus out and causing them to react the way they did. if their behaviour changes now that she has passed, that will give you an answer.
Hi John and Cat. Omg she is terrible. Omg John I’m so sorry to hear about the female. I don’t think your a bad emu farmer John I think it’s just bad rotten luck. Have you tried reaching out to other emu farmers to see if they have ever experienced such an outcome and if so how they may have handle it. I mean if you think of humans we don’t always get along. So would make sense that this could be the case here. Either way I don’t see that either you or Cat have wronged them. In fact I think you have both tried very hard to do right by them all. My heart breaks for you both. Sending hugs guys. I hope so much it works out for you.
Hey y'all, I feel so bad for y'all. What a shame all that effort time and money. It is easy for us to say it'll be better tomorrow or offer all kinds of things you could have done better. Truth is you did everything the way it makes sense but animals are animals and do what they do. I'll pray you come up with a new plan soon.
Could you maybe sell the female and focus on trying to raise the babies and try again? Dad at this point might be best kept separate indefinitely. Poor guy! I wonder what killed the other female 😢 So sorry to hear of these troubles.
Maybe move the male to another area where the girls cannot see him. He might even raise a baby or two. Hopefully, that would get the girls to stop being so focused on him.
Oh no! It must be so frustrating for you. Hope Dad heals quickly and the girls leave him alone. Hope he adjusts his attitude toward the babies too, but he's traumatized poor thing!
😮… so sad! Gotta be an emu expert who can give you possible solutions … maybe move your motion camera over to view what’s happening. So sad… sorry for Dad, the dead emu and the little ones. Maybe a vet can shed some light on this situation.
Them lady Emu aren't very lady like😂 Sorry bro. Hope you can get things squared away. Maybe the girls can pick up a hobby, other than hurting their mate. Maybe sourdough baking, it takes a lot of attention and time. That might distract them. **Sorry for the jokes, it's how I cope with stress**
Night time is the best time to add new chickens, roosters or baby chickens to the chicken coop. I have 9 chickens about 6 month old, and a nice lady gave me a 3 month old egg easter rooster...We agree to bring the new rooster early evening, so all chickens were already on the rooster pool and we just place the rooster right there close to the chickens. We closed the woodshed, they slept all night, and on the next morning everithyng went fine. On the third day he was already jumping on top of one of my barred rock chickens, few weeks latter on my Rhode iland red....and so on....He is happy and growing beautifully. They are all on free pasture all day long and are protected by crows against others predators. We are pleased to have fertilized eggs, waiting for the broody season.😊
I know this video is about emus, not alpacas but I wanted to say thank you for showing us the ropes and being so informative. I'm going to visit a local alpaca farm (unfortunately you are nowhere near) and see for myself in the flesh what it's like. Wrote down a bunch of questions about keeping them (mostly specific to our state/area) to prep even more for potentially getting a few of them. So excited! If I hadn't seen your videos I would never have considered it
I would caution anyone not to confuse Titan Attachments with the company formerly known as Titan Implements, now IronCraft. Whereas Titan Attachments is imported Chinese product, IronCraft is an American company manufacturing implements in the USA, though some of their parts may be sourced outside of the USA. Comments included here may give an indication of the quality of Titan Attachments from a broad user base.
Cool shrooms! I'm curious, how do you prevent the logs from splitting/cracking as they dry? My random log projects always seem to get at least one giant crack down the side. Yours all look great!
