Thanks Phil. Agreed! We also love how easy they are to rig, how well they sail and how comfortable they are in all conditions. This trip was probably the wettest we’ve had on the water, yet we remained dry in the cabin and mostly dry in the cockpit. We’d happily go again in the same conditions!

Sure did and also briefly showered under the Sandy Gully Creek waterfall but being October the water temp still took your breath away.

Only just accidentally found your channel. Hope you do not mind if I comment. I guess you had a good time, but to start with I DETEST the southern end of the inside area of the Straddies and Moreton Island and much prefer to launch at Rudy Marrs where there is a lock-up yard to leave my car and trailer safely. From there I can take at least four different ways to sail to the Jumpinpin and and Bedroom areas and to the less crowded areas of the North, away from the Gin Palaces Etc. that tear up the waterways with their 500+ HP engines! Lots of interesting passages between the islands around that area where I get relatively clean air above the mangroves. Made it down to Southport once and another time only went as far as Tipplers. Not for me down there at all. Love the northern areas but prefer again the Frazer Island and Sandy straits area. Lot of towing from Brunswick Heads where I live, but well worth it IMHO. Just spent 3 full weeks in that area and have visited many times over the years. I have a Farr 6000 that I've made many improvements to make it more a cruising boat. Not at all interested in racing. Cranky old bugger eh?
@aistringy
@aistringy Год назад
Thanks for the info Peter. I hadn’t heard of Rudy Marrs. Googling it I discovered its actually spelt Rudy Maas and their website now lists the ramp as permanently closed. Like you, I wouldn’t have chosen this area to cruise myself as we like to get as far away from civilisation as possible. However we weren’t going to turn down an opportunity to join this unique raid, visiting exclusive anchorages that we normally can’t access. Would we do it again? Absolutely! We did have the best time exploring with other Cygnet owners and experienced some great sailing. Rarely have I had a tail wind getting there and coming back. We’ll be back next year for sure.

Nice video! Nice boats! I live and sail in the Great Lakes in Michigan. What boats are these? I have a Compac Eclipse which looks somewhat similar. Tom
@aistringy
@aistringy Год назад
@@t555p Hi Tom, sorry I only just discovered your reply. Thanks for the comments. The boat is a Cygnet 20, built at Cardiff, NSW Australia by BWCY. www.bwcy.com.au/bluewaterCygnet20.htm Yes, there are many similarities with your Compac Eclipse, though differences as well beginning with the all carbon fibre spars, gaff rig and pop top. Here is a recent article, written by a Cygnet 20 owner smallboatsmonthly.com/article/cygnet-20 UInterestingly BWCY have just exported their first Cygnet 20 to the USA, where it is based on Lake George in the NE of New York State. If you’re ever down that way keep a lookout for ‘Sonnet 29’ on the water!

Thanks for the compilation Stringy, it’s helpful to see the many options in one spot! It has been difficult to tease things out via YT’s search - I get the feeling YT search results are parsed in such a way as to force us to wade through a bunch of other crap so that we are subtly forced to remain distractable and plugged in much longer than if we got better quality results straight off. Great vid all the way around. Functional Question: How does the haka deployment work for surf launches? Here in N. California, most of our beaches are high energy (steep) and high frequency (often 9-10 seconds or less), so the kayak is prone to a lot of twist and lift/drop action that side loads the whole ama system and the shear bolts are easily sacrificed. The obvious choice is to deploy the amas after launch, and that could be tricky with amas. Suggestions? BTW we have a TI.

Hey Stringy, after a serious wallow through some serious deep and soft sand, uphill nonetheless, I started thinking about a tandem cart for the Tandem Island...just like you! I like it, except for the cost. Here in Central California, the Ocean is much too harsh to get the boat up on the dolly whilst in the water, so we don't get to cart the whole beast around, but this is a great idea, thanks for posting! Now, howzabout you show us how you assembled it, made it happen?

Beach dolly is ideal, tug is for hard surface, could see it burying itself in the sand and most likely the strain and the effort of pulling it.

Hi Stringy, I enjoy your sailing vids. Very interesting. So, i have an classic mirage tandem kayak with the classic up/down rudder system. I found you your rudder conversion posts to the new TnS rudder. Unfortunately, the detail tutorial by you has been removed. Can you share with me how it is done and how you converted the line management. Greatly appreciated if you can. Thanks Andrew.

One part missing splash guard . I cut out a 1ft X 2ft towards the rear of the motor to shield water that entered the rear well. I sure you can add a splash guard towards the front part of the engine attach to the bracket you have there. Great to have the outboard when the fan turns off.
