PianoGroove is an online jazz piano school and community. We specialise in jazz piano, blues piano, and Brazilian piano styles.
Our structured courses and step-by-step curriculum cater for both beginner jazz piano students, and also those looking to fill in the theory gaps in their playing.
In addition to theory students we teach students how to read and arrange lead sheets for solo jazz piano performance.
THANK YOU! I am not a jazz player but interested in learning exactly this sort of thing (understanding the chords, melody, etc). I had been looking all over youtube for something that breaks it down like this. I'm so glad I found this and wanted to let you know how much it is appreciated. I know some will think it's too basic, but fnewa newbie trying to get a grasp of the fundamentals, it is priceless! Great job! 🎉🫡
the (Old) RealBook, Vol.2 has the Bb 7+ as the second chord, which sounds very odd. You want the IV 7 (#11) chord here, as it is notated in most sheets and the New Realbook, too.
Please start saying enharmonic means they sound exactly the same on instruments that have a discrete note spectrum, like the piano (not even completely true there, but anyway.)
I am very new to jazz piano. Can someone explain in the first measures, why the first Fm7 does not include the C, but the second one does, and not only that but also include a G? Like, how would someone know which notes to drop or add if the chord sheet just says Fm7
Glad that, unlike a lot of people, you play the bridge. Though you convert it into a circle-of-fifths instead of the modal in the original. Is the jazz imagination that limited? There is no sin in going from Gm to F, without interposing a Cm.
This tutorial is one of the easiest I have ever heard and seen. It sounds beautifully and yet it doesn't seem too hard. You are an excellent piano teacher. Congratulations! I'm subscribing to your channel. Thanks.
I learn 300% more watching your videos than anyone else’s, you’re helping me understand jazz in a way that’s connecting concepts I couldn’t connect before. SO helpful
What a great lesson. There are a lot of RU-vidrs who produce convoluted jazz instruction videos that are often confusing. This is the first video I've found in years that actually explains jazz fundamentals in a very clear, coherent and systematic way. Amazing.
