Part way through the video here: The photo of Alan Turing (22:42) gave me chills, he looks exactly like Jeffrey Dahmer's mug shot (especially the eyes). Seeing as reincarnation is not too far a stretch of a concept from the bounds of this video topic, I couldn't help but express the shock at finding that Jeffrey was born 6 yrs after Turins death (suicide), and that both were genius level men with sexual proclivities that got them both into trouble with the law. Jeffrey took serial killing to a horrific level, and Turin fathered modern computational sciences. If this vaguely established connection is even remotely true I guess not all lives lead successionally to greater enlightenment. Anyway back to the video.
At the end, Professor Krakauer mentioned a paper he was writing that wasn't published at the time. Is it available now? I'm curious about its content but haven't been able to locate it.

Shape and function is information; where is the information stored? The question perhaps is how can proteins (made from the nucleus) effect the electromagnetic signals that direct shape and function? Also, what feedback mechanism informs the nucleus to shift protein generation.

The SEMF programme looks fascinating, but as I look around in wikipedia with the relevant keywords and find articles with titles like 'neuroethology', I realize that there has long been this field called 'Cybernetics' that lacks a 'popular' treatment of its foundational perspective, though I guess Wiener hoped his eponymous book might accomplish this; and I wonder why I've never met anyone who has read it ! Still, at least he managed to deposit his neologism 'cybernetics' in educated parlance - though maybe without the subtitle that defines it. I have long noticed, about the world, that there is scarcely any sense in the superb popular literature on evolution, of that essential empirical feature of living things, that they BEHAVE - the essense of which must be processing information from the other side of the semipermeable surface that de-fines them. Isnt it funny how our basic perception of any thing (organism or not) tends to bracket everything external to these *surfaces* that appear to us. Insofar as these appearances puzzle perception, the perceiver's curosity is almost strictly directed at what could be *inside* this surface, never thinking that the Main thing inside an organism is going to be its own curiosity about what is *outside* that surface.
Information and Life The Age of Life The ability to carry out actions differentiates inanimate matter from living matter. In turn, every action involves the management of Information. We do not know what Matter is or what Life is, and we assume that all life forms that currently inhabit the planet descend from a common ancestor (LUCA), an organism whose complexity is evident if we consider that it is attributed the ability to reproduce. Due to the above, it is reasonable to assume that “seeds of life” existed prior to LUCA. Assuming that the “seeds of life” emerged together with the Big Bang is a bold postulate, and as such requires a solid empirical foundation. When observing Evolution considering the information that our ancestors have managed, and that currently managed by humanity, it is possible to distinguish seven evolutionary milestones; Its analysis allows us to postulate that Life goes back to the origin of the Universe, and the existence of an “evolutionary pattern” is evident, which turns out to be the Golden Ratio. Evolutionary Milestones -Emergence of ”Seeds of Life”(1) (thirteen thousand eight hundred million years ago). -Emergence of LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor) three thousand eight hundred million years ago -Emergence of the brain (five hundred and fifty million years ago). -Emergence of what was the precursor of human language (2) (twenty-seven million years ago) -Emergence of the language that characterizes us(3) (around two hundred and twenty thousand years ago). -Emergence of “the information age” with the transistor (1950) -Evolutionary Singularity(4) proposed by Ray Kurzweil, who postulates that humanity will access a Singularity as a result of the exponential growth of information management (year 2045). (4)Due to the exponential growth of information technologies, Ray Kurzweil postulates that a Technological Singularity will occur in the year 2045, at which time technological growth will be so rapid and so profound that it will be impossible to predict what its consequences will be. this problem is nuts. I only seeing it work with tFHE. but still, how can solve for a dispute like the one (mentioned below) with just a model this way? It seems like more of the same "key holders" who can skew an interpretation any way they wish. Where is the signing?
@@SEMF In my mind Diffie-Hellman key exchange would be a "signing". If we look realistically at the attacks on SSL in the wild, and consider the concept of "authority" here is counterintuitive, it just brings me back full circle to "this is a hard problem". Hope that makes sense, I can clarify a little more but now I'm questioning my own thoughts on it lol. 🤔
is he not mischaracterizing the concept of a "latent" space by applying this specific terminology at scale? isn't it more than a latent space in terms of the nearly infinitely multi-variant systems he's describing?
I sincerely agree with the notion of ethics being a priority. The type of work this man is doing demands ethical oversight. Still, it's kind of like... unreasonable to define bounds on what is inherently defined as effectively a "space" when it's so complex IRL it's effectively boundless in the context of -actually being applicable to people-. He's contradicting himself at the end there IMHO unless I'm genuinely missing something.
@@SEMF Rewatched the portion at the end but it seems to me the concept of trying to define ethics on top of what is to become a "higher" order intelligence is pretty a obvious contradiction. In loose terms, it's like humans trying to tell God what religion is. Let's say an Ai can 3d print itself in biological tissue, and we as humans decide ethics for these entities? Once there is a higher authority, again, where do trust it to define how it's ethics work and when to appeal our biases? It's like a dog barking at you to give it more food, do we go by the dog's wishes and give it more to eat? Is it unethical to let it bark it out or unethical not feed it, from the dog's perspective? I see ethics becoming the crux of a huge amount of issues spawning up, but I may be not understanding here how this is possible to define a working system. Id say it's every fibre of our being hence u can cut the planera in a million peices and all still develop the whole planera perfectly or the axolotl regenerating everything including half their brain. . @@SEMF a science practicioner I may be wrong. Like Hertz the word Juelz comes from a name of a person that was doing experiments equations on unlimited multiplication from a simple format=ones and zeros binary system that has an unlimited output in the 1800s world history

Would be interesting to hear about or delve into graphics vs words as communication tool at societal scale in terms of prevelance, categories, gender, tech level, as well as the corespondence or not re words/graphics in terms of thinking (internal) vs communication (external) and why there is such an overwhelming bias to words as the primary external/communication mode/tool (ease/simplicity/familiarity/skill set requirements perhaps). Temple Grandin has touched on some interesting things re individual variances in inclination to visual vs word thinking modes/tendencies. Excited to read Tversky's book! The "motion" aspect/emphasis is particularly interesting and surprising.
