honestly the best ad for Robotic Servo actuator i have seen so far - what are the sensing posibilities - Motor Current or Motor Torque for the output Torque of the Drive - Do you have a real Torque Sensor on the Output and input of the Harmonic drive or just a torque sensor ?

Yes of course, the Harmonic Drive Gear ⚙ can be driven back. By the way, this happens in every typical robotic cycle hundreds of times every day: Every time when the axis is in motion and slowed down rapidly, the load inertia on the gear output side drives back the gear (in a controlled manner, determined by motor and controller).

Most of the strain is internal, it's not related to the load.

to much friction. i prefer with bearing like this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OsS9-FzKN6s.html. But i dont know if can hold the torque because have bearing instead teth friction.

No wonder I’m starting to see these in equatorial astronomy tracking mounts. Backlash is one of the challenges I encounter with long exposure astrophotography and this configuration seems to eliminate it. The high torque and load capacity of these drives also eliminates the need for counterweights. Outstanding piece of engineering here.

Hey team, thanks for this video.. we really appreciate you sharing so much of your work that goes into getting compliance for space ready mechanical parts.. I especially liked that you had to develop a completely new dry lubricant which seemed to be thinner than 10nm layer.. I was always wondering why has no one sent a robot dog to Mars for exploration but now I understand the problems we face in vacuum.. and how mechanical properties like friction can increase problems if we use a fluid lubricant that can get evaporated easily.. this research is amazing and I hope I get to do the same.. thanks again for sharing.. keep sharing such valuable insights for inspiring others..

Great video. I`m new to the robotics field. I`m designing a 6-axis robot with harmonic drives. I`m planning to implement the robot as a hand guiding for position teaching. Since harmonic drives has high torque, is this possible to do with stepper motors? If someone has an idea about these things, please leave a comment.

Dear Mark, Thank you for your comment and interest in our products and technology. Most of our customers use permanent magnet synchronous servo motors with a feedback system for closed loop operation. If you are going for steppers we should adapt the gear input coupling specifically. Please get in touch to our sales representative for further application support. harmonicdrive.de/en/contact

I wonder if that could be made out of plastic. I'm guessing the outer race will be the most stressed surface
@johntheux9238
@johntheux9238 Год назад
If you want a lower gear ratio you probably need to use plastic because of the increased elasticity.

Ahhhhhhhh , so that's how those big KUKA robots hold a load with little effort . Cheers spline lords , you rule.
@actin6901
@actin6901 3 года назад
It's more about the precision tho due to the zero backlash, not the torque. A traditional gear could do the same load-wise. But robotics such as KUKA also needs the precision, hence this gear.
@HimanshuGhadigaonkar
@HimanshuGhadigaonkar 3 года назад
Yeah.. also harmonic drive takes us less space and less volume to achieve back drivability and precision.. hence they are coupled with BLDC too.. if you were purely going for precision.. get a worm gear and a stepper.. no back drivability but excellent precision and very very low cost..
