I've been surprised several times by the depth of the bass and kick drum in your MEGA65 captures 👍 I have the impression that you have configured the SID of the core 64 in 8580 mode, with digifix activated. We recently talked about the fact that demos are tested on many versions of the C64 to validate compatibility. do you know if the composer (Fegolhuzz) of the music for this demo recommends a particular SID or setting ? I imagine he must have a favorite SID version. Like some Sierra PC games where the musicians have composed on the MT-32. It would be cool to know his rendering preferences and with MEGA65 or MiSTer platforms that use core64, to be in the same configuration as the author 🙂

Thanks! I made the music. To clarify, this demo runs on a stock C64, there is nothing Mega65 featured or used in our Fairlight demo. The music is a 3 channel single speed 8580 SID. The music rip sounds great though, cleaner than other youtube captures. :)

J'ai regardé à nouveau mais je ne note rien de particulier. Il est vrai que par moment il y a beaucoup de dissonances, mais j'ai regardé une autre video, et même si effectivement le véritable SID produit un son de meilleure qualité, je n'ai pas noté de bug partiulier. je ne suis francement pas mélomane, donc pas exclu que je passe à côté d'un truc évident. Je vais voir pour faire une nouvelle capture car aujourd'hui j'ai capturé avec une compression directe en mkv. Je devrais sans doute capturer en mp4 et uploader en suite tout en laissant youtube faire le travail de compression.

Wow. Pretty near perfect. Are we getting to the point where we can use a Mega65 as a valid substitute for a native machine? (I am using an Ultimate64 for that purpose today). What are the known things this core won't support?

@@FairLight1337 we are already to the point where we can use it as a replacement for the c64. From a pure simulation perspective it's based on the mister core. It's not perfect yet, we have timing edge cases which are to be investigated. They are really edge cases. We have à test bench made of 200 demos (all fairlight demos are included and they perfectly work without à single glitch, same for many other demo groups). I still have my ultimate64 but switched to the mega65. In the current version we have à bug with .prg files loading, otherwise loading from .d64 and most of .crt works perfectly. We have less features than the ultimate64, but we have real cartridges very well supported on the Last board revision. With also have REU support. Tons of new features are on our schedule :)

@@OlivierSimpleLife This is very interesting. Hardware experts have started running 13:37 to test CPU and VIC chips that passed as 100% working but glitch in our Fairlight demo. One guy had 21 CPUs all passing tests and one did not work correctly running 13:37. So it's becoming a litmus test standard already. During the X demo competition, there was a large visual bug caused by the interface from the C64 to the projector, but the bug was not visible on the CRT monitor connected to the same C64... If you say the Mega 65 can run 13:37 error free, then there are probably less than a handful of C64 executables it won't be able to handle out of everything every made for the platform!

@@DerDanko Thanks for the very interesting feedback. We still have a few demos that don't work perfectly. For a large majority of these few demos, it seems that the problem is more related to the transition from one floppy disk to another, which leads me to suspect that the floppy disk drive simulation is not perfect. I also suspect that we have some marginal cases linked to the precision of the CIAs' interrupt handling. Interrupt management was thoroughly overhauled in 2022, which enabled us to significantly reduce the few anomalies we encountered. In 2023, further modifications were made to further reduce the number of failed demos. I'm thinking in particular of the fact that the VIC2 implementation did not take into account the fact that an interrupt on line 0 is not detected at cycle 0 but at cycle 1. This single correction made it possible to fix some major glitches on a demo. Let me add that for our tests we established a bench of 200 demos (giving priority to those using as many tricks as possible). For each modification/correction, we replayed the bench in its entirety on several screens and compared the executions with a real C64. We're aware that we can't cover the spectrum of all machines, but we try to do our best :)

@@OlivierSimpleLife You might want to be informed that certain revisions of the original C64 will also bug on certain demos, so not even all original units are compatible/capable of the abusive tricks we do in our demos. Ultimate 64 also have a handful of demos (from Censor Design and Fairlight) that do not execute 100% correct although the glitches are few and barely noticeable.

Je l'ai retrouvée. C'est une collection de music de SAMAR PRODUCTIONS, qui s'appelle "New Horizons" et que tu trouves sans difficulté sur csdb.dk en cherchant "New Horizons". Attention ce sont des musiques composées pour 3 SIDS ! Donc à moins d'avoir un Ultimate 64, hormis VICE, pas d'autre solution. A priori les adresses utilisées par les SIDs sont les deux SIDs supplémentaires sont d420 et d440.
