years ago i saw a british bushcrafter channel, the guy was a bit rough. he had a smaller kuhkri that was maybe 7-8 inch, more of a knife than a machete. i think i have almost the exact same stuff in my truck , i keep a snatch strap and some clevises , a 50 cal can with mixed stuff , cook pot and a xtra stove.
Nice! More times than I can count having extra gear in my truck has helped me out. It's good to hear from so many others who are keeping there vehicles prepared.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 shortly after my comment I remembered the awl from the multitool but trust me a manual drill is much faster although takes much more space.
In my truck: Hothands packets, instant cold packs, tarp, water filter, bottled water, rations, first aid, multi-tool, tool kit made for truck with right socket sizes and things, tape, paracord, road flares, blanket, fishing kit, headlamp, large shovel, ham radio, CB radio, hatchet, gerber saw (terrible, don't buy their bucksaw).
I enjoy seeing peoples kits and reasons for their choices of tools . Just after the flintstone era , stationwagons were common . They were cheep entry level vehicles for young people . By the 1980s they were pushing 400 cubic inches . The Grizwalds' battlewagon comes to mind . I remember back in the early 1970s a man had converted a station wagon into a survival vehicle . There was a hot water cooking system were engine coolent was deverted by a switch to what was essentially a crockpot . The man had everything needed to live in this vehicle . In my life I've used pick-ups and vans . I build survival vehicles in my mind . I think the most ideal vehicle would be a 1970s to 1980s van with four wheel drive . If one is lacking a winch throw in a heavy duty come a long . J. Wayne Fears (hope I spelled his name correctly) carried a High Lift Jack in his kit . Good post ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! I remember my Dad telling me about a friend of his that converted a delivery van so it had a bunk bed and stove in it. They stayed in it while traveling across the desert building power lines.
There you are!...note to self...put my bolt cutters back in my trucks tool box, oh, and the axe...thanks for the reminders Dan...I do need to add a tow strap as well...getting to be that time of year don't ya know...great to see you brother...woods
Hey Woods! Actually this is the second video this week, so you might go back one. Good call on the tow strap. I have a cheap one in the truck. An upgrade just isn't in the budget, lol!
I recently had an emergency , got a flat tire , no big deal right . Until you brake a lug wrench . NONE of my neighbors had they're own , being older I didn't know that most people in urban areas simply ride the rim to a tire shop . So I added a large CRAFTMEN'S BRAKER BAR and the appropriate sized 3/4" socket for my lugs to my car kit . Never saw a lug wrench brake . 😁😁😁
When you least expect it..... one of our wildfires was started by someone riding the rim. Through sparks in the dry brush. Glad you have the tools with you now!
In my neck of the woods unless you have an oxy acetylene torch or Dynamite you're not getting through a major forestry gate they're serious heavy duty business unless you're an expert Lockpick
Interesting choices of Kit, would have never guessed what the wright iron was for but it makes sense!! Yes I was one if those thinking what are those for?????
Yes, they are really good knives Dan. I realize that Architect doesn't make the blades, but he should request that they have 90-degree spines, or at least have that as an option. That is my only negative criticism.
Good video, just a few things: - my set up is a Pathfinder canteen set, Nalgene with a second Pathfinder cup lid & stove, and either 4 USGI 1 qt or 2 USGI 2 qt canteens (I like the hard ones from Hayes Tooling & Plastics, Inc) on my pack. Rothco also has the MOLLE 2 qt pouches. - my authentic USGI canteens don't leak only the knock offs - take an Xacto knife and clean up the flashings from the molding process that should stop the leaks on USGI type canteens, if it is still then use the M1 NBC cap they have a rubber gasket in them or go to ACE Hardware and get a rubber gasket that fits in your cap - bat wing US Army cups are stainless not aluminum - US Army cups fit the Nalgene - You have to tweak the tabs on the M1942 folding handle cups with needle nose pliars then they they only come undone when you want them to see Dave Canterburys canteen video for a how to - I have them but I am not a fan of Rothco lids Pathfinder lids are cheap they fit USGI cups & knock offs and no sharp edges on the holes - Pathfinder now has cups with bat wing handles that fit USGI & Nalgene Canteens (also a little larger) they still have the folding handle cups now with D rings for a stick handle - If you have the need USGI M1 NBC caps will fit on the Nalgene canteen
Thank you!, you as well. Bk's are fantastic knives and I've been a fan of the 9 for years. But I really feel like the Architect is a little bit better, Blade and especially handles.
Dan, Thank you for featuring Architect Knives in your reviews. This is an excellent choice for your official knife. I would like to comment about these knives. First of all, we own most models that are offered from AK. We own the 8.0, 6.5, 5.5, 4.5, 3.5. All of them in either Magnacut or S35VN steels. I cannot say enough about how well these knives are designed. They just absolutely work and work well. We do a lot of car camping in Western Colorado. We do collect these knives, but we also use them. They are absolutely of the highest quality that you can buy. They are made in America with American materials. We shieved all these knives in Kydex with leather backing and a dangler. Instead of rambling on, I would just tell anyone that is considering any of these knives. You cannot go wrong with any of these models. I hope to see some models with a scandi grind in the future. And also, a model that will rival the full size, Junglas. Please make more reviews about these knives. Thank you and Ethan for your high attentiveness to detail. GOD bless both of you and your families.
Thank you so much for your endorsement of Architect Knives, and your kind words. I don't believe that anyone looking for a good survival knife would be disappointed with one of these Knives.
Those are some AWESOME looking blades ! Even better that you get to chose your combination for your knife !! Going to have to wait until after the holidays...much as I hate to. But they are WAY up there on my 'to get" list now. Thank you for the heads up !!! Edit = Shirts in earth tone colors would be sweet !
I would say blade performance is equal. Handles definitely go to Architect knives. But as I said in the video, I have got to be personally involved with Input and consulting on Architect Knives designs. When you are holding a canvas micarta handle in woodland camo, that's Ochoco Bushcraft.
Architect knives are awesome knives. I really enjoy my AK 6.5 in 1095. It would be great if the shirt you’re wearing in this video was available to the public. Thanks for another great video
Every good video Dan. Every good information on the knives. Love the videos on fire and shelter I love looking at the country and the woods and thing outdoors. Thanks again for the videos.
Very cool! They are great knives, and I really like my 5.5 in 3V. Thankfully, it doesn't have the little divot on the spine, which im not a fan of. Just a good straight sharp spine is all that's needed. Thanks for showing!
I've owned the pr4 for about 5 years as my only camp knife. I've batoned it through 3.5 inch knotty pine and birch a LOT, carved a hatchet handle from a chunk of fire wood without getting hot spots, and with a lanyard it makes a damn good tiny chopper. Holds an edge well, but it's so easy to sharpen I'm not beyond digging a hole with it if need be 😅l
"The most important thing is boiling water in your bottle." Proceeds to show us 3 pristine-condition bottles that never touched flame. Jokes aside, thanks for the informative video, I was wondering between the 3. Found a cheap *starter* alternative for $7 at IKEA.
Good information. Towards the end I was going to say it would be good to have a machete for brush but then you pulled out the Kukri. We need to be prepared for fire weather in the wilderness or in the city. I have a fire mask that has a special filter and you just reminded me I should check the date on it. I also have two of these survival filter straws one of my emergency evacuation kit and one that I carry in my EDC. And this reminds me that I wanted to get a tube that I can attach to it so I don't have to bend down so far if I have to use it. And that's what I'm doing right now. Even here in my apartment I bought an air purifier with carbon filters because even though I live in the suburbs we had some serious wildfires last summer and you could smell the smoke. You quickly realize that this is not breathable. I would wish you luck with your powerlifting competition but you probably entered the contest by now. I just finished doing my workout while watching your video. I mostly do aerobics like cycling and rowing machine and light weights. I'm too old for heavy weights lifting.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 I check out the fire mask and it was expired 2 years ago so I'm going to order another one. Just another reminder that we always need to check our gear and emergency supplies.
What if it had only 2 wicks and with the can vented like that would you be able to get water boiling in a small container or pan with a couple cups of water in around 1 hour? Also the tip of elevating the candle with a small log inside the can always great idea when want to get water to boil. Thank you for sharing!
All of my usgi canteen cups are stainless steel, it's rare for me to even run across one of the aluminum cups. Tons of the steel ones at surplus stores alot cheaper than ebay. Alot of people do want the long folding handles but they are getting gone quick. I like both styles depending on what I'm using it for. Cooking i want the long handle otherwise the butterfly handles are quite comfortable for my coffee. I like using a potted meat can with holes punched around the rim with hand sanitizer for fuel gel, it's piled up everwhere and some thrift stores are just plain giving away or 50 cents a bottle and thats like a big bottle. Perfect fuel thats cheap and has many uses including disinfecting scrapes and cuts.
