The funny thing is, you said they've been around a while and they played the song a bunch of times. That is the new song. That's how good they are. It only took them 15 years to write this album though. So whatever lol
Looking for a hook in technical death metal is like looking for a blast beat in a Taylor Swift song. Stick to Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Cardi B, and other low IQ pop music written by 40 producers per song that has the exact same format and formula from one pop "star" to the next. Your brains aren't big enough to comprehend technical death metal
Literally all of their songs are virtuoso performances in the same style. Yes, they are actually playing that fast. Have seen them live a few times, they don't miss a note
This is the most accurate description of this song ever. This was my break up song and you’re right when you say that sometime you just need that one song to help you out. Deftones have been a part of my life since I first heard my own summer. Very cathartic.
The first time I saw them in Indianapolis it was at building that was basically a huge airport hanger. No seats so basically you could get as close to the stage as you could maneuver. The energy was insane. The crowd moved in waves. You'd be close enough to touch them one song then 30 people back the next. It was a religious experience. Also Tom Morello was a ninja at restringing his guitar mid song. Twice I saw string break and he just immediately fixed it
The last level @15:46 is the drummer Danny hitting a Paiste 40" Symphonic Gong. When it's played live all you can hear is static for 5 seconds as the song fades back in.
Oh my gosh!! I have never heard anyone say they did not like this song or get into it. Damn! I have heard many reations! I dont know what you do listen to, but i probly would not like your stuff. WOW!! You seem a little arrogant. Ty, one guy for appriciating the music for what it is.
How can you give a review about Dave weckl Steve Gadd and Vinnie ?? These are the greatest drummers of all time, the technique and virtuosity of the weckl, the sound of vini and the feel of Steve Gadd, do some homework before you can talk at all
I think the fact that he learned tabla and the Indian Music System has a huge impact in his sound. I mean tablas and the whole Konnakkol system are just way too much developed. In western music we have like 12 notes, they divide each note in 4 semitones, so if you listen to some sitar / konnakol gigs you can see lots of influence. The genius is that he creates lots of orchestration with lots of pieces with the drums. You can seem his rig rundown somewhere around youtube. That alone is mind blowing. Also, check Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) have a go at this at the Drumeo channel. It's absolutelly bonkers. The level of sofisticated drums of Danny Carey is far far upthere. What I love about drumming, more than other music disciplines (well except piano, because Bach and the fact that he invented almost everything we use these days), is that the level of a player is not also the technical skill but the way the music is served. In this piece you can hear lots and lots of details on the accents, depending if he is following bass, guitar or drums. Practicing active listening is key. It's the first thing anyone learns when trying to put a band together or starts to play jazz. You have to really hear what the others are playing so you can react and hit a cymbal or tom out of the blue. In this day and age he really is one of the best. Every time I hear this and know he wrote this stuff being 58 with all that power blows my mind. Music really will save the world.
Durst wasn’t really rapping in this song. He was rhyming yes, but the lyrics are meant to be simple to we can easily understand what he’s trying to convey.
