WHAT'S UP YO!!! Not your average "White Guy" here!!! I was born and raised in Miami and have had a Latin influence in pretty much my entire life. Love cooking and getting creative. Hope you enjoy!!!
Good job, I too was in the same boat as you were, plus my wife is a type2 diabetic, we started keto about a year ago, she unfortunately fell off but is back on now, I on the other hand stayed the course and am down 70# my A1C is 5.1 now and I feel so much better, I still want to lower my insulin resistance so I fast 16hrs a day and try to make good food choices,
Congrats on your life change journey. Like most of us BBQ guys, we put on too many extra pounds. I am on week 15 of a Carnivore way of eating. You may want to check out. I am 61, my biometric age when I started was 65. 2 types of BP medicine and 260lbs. At 6 foot tall. By week 3 my BP was normal and no more meds. Down 22lbs. so far and feel like a new person just like you. Best of all I still cook outside all the time and eating meat, eggs and bacon. All 3 are man's best friends.😊
I really enjoyed your video. Most women that do these videos spend 20 minutes making their coffee and I find it frustrating. 😊 But 20 years ago I did lose 100lbs doing Adkins and without all that processed stuff they have. You look great.
As a woman, I AGREE. Or even worse, doing their hair or makeup which I find gross and disrespectful if the topic isn’t hair and makeup. Get to the point and stop yammering. Love this message and delivery. God bless.
The fats also stop you feeling deprived and hungry so it becomes sustainable. Fat on meat and cook with butter or tallow, just like your grandma did. Look at a photo pr 60s and no one on it will be overweight - no processed food and seed oils. Well done 👍🏼🇬🇧
Glad to see you make this video on your weight loss. Also you got the channel active again after your break. I was going to mention that several videos but didn’t.
Call it dirty keto if you like, it worked for me. If I wasn't continuing to lose weight I would have stopped eating it or limited to once in a while. Thanks for the comment...
Hey Mike way to go! You have really changed yourself for the best! A lot of the food is similar to the Mediterranean Diet which I started in April due to health problems. So good to see you enjoying the journey! Keep it up my friend! Great video!👍
Black Label is my favorite brand of bacon though I'm not sure why. I used to buy thick cut until I read that it is chewier than regular cut bacon. I love maple syrup, but I found I didn't like maple bacon. I felt center cut was overrated and overpriced. I haven't tried applewood-smoked bacon, but I want to try cherrywood. Just affording regular bacon is hard enough on my tight budget. It was an interesting experiment to watch, as well as how you cook the bacon. I myself flip bacon a lot so I know how each strip develops the color and crispiness of fully cooked bacon. It is good we who watched you are not able to take in the tantalizing aroma of bacon.
CONGRATS ON THE JOURNEY!! i haven't steamed veg like that on the stone, will try it. Are you still Keto? I ask because the cereal, banana, rice are all off limits for keto, but someone on Atkins would slowly introduce carbs until they hit their sweet spot (pun intended).
Thanks for the comment, I usually just steam the veggies inside but this worked out great because I was able to get plenty of them cooked all at once. And yes I am still on Keto, I guess you could call it dirty keto. I started eating the cereal and banana before I went on Keto and didn't stop. I continued to lose weight so kept on eating it.
Good job, Mike! I stumbled upon your method by accident. I did a few local BBQ competitions and afterward I was like "I don't want meat!" So I cut it out and ate only fish or veggies. I found that when I ate like this I was losing weight so I kept it going. I didn't suffer. I didn't feel like I was cutting anything out. I'm not losing weight as fast as you but it's happening and I'm not feeling like I had to sell my soul to the devil. You have at least verified that what I'm doing is right, so, thank you! 🤘
Thanks for the comment. Yeah I am not going so strict that I'm not enjoying life. But tried a few different things and this worked for me. As long as your feeling better, that's the most important part in my opinion...
one minor correction...your coke zero uses Aspartame artificial sweetner not Setvia....and this is definitely not a good thing.....studies show that regular consumption of diet drinks raises your insulin levels and can lead to insulin resistance. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7014832/
Looking great! Have you thought about or tried the carnivore diet? I did it for 100 days in 2022 and lost weight. The problem is I love carbs too much!
You look great! Cant call you Big Cat anymore haha! Can you give the list of vitamins you're taking? I am taking a mens multi vitamins and a vitamin C daily. I went to the doctor for my yearly visit and had similar blood work. My chlolesterol and blood pressure was high. As well as my A1C. My doctor told me to work out 3 times a week and eat better as well. I hope you post more of your journey. Seems like we are in similar situations with you ahead obviously. Keep it up. You just motivated me
Thank you bmums!!! I take Turmeric, Benfotiamine, Milk Thistle, Vitamin B12, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Fish Oil (Omega 3), Lion's Mane Mushroom, D3, Tudca, and Magnesium Glycinate. I also take Amlodipine for my high blood pressure and it works great. I probably don't need it anymore and actually just ran out so I'll monitor it daily and see if I still need it. Hope this helps...
You look really great. I get so confused over all this . We eat a lot of different beans. Can you eat them. Also we grill and smoke a lot and I love all kinds of bbq sauces which I was told not to eat. This was very informative and I’m going to do more research. Going camping this week and was going to make beans and ham . Not sure that’s on the diet. Oh and do you not eat beef or pork? Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Marlene and Cecil!! I don't eat too many beans and when I do it's not much. Not because of health reasons, just me. They are good for you just don't eat too much in my opinion. I would just limit the amount of bbq sauce you use, maybe put it on the side and dip as needed. I do eat beef about once per month and again limit the amount if it is fatty meat (ribeye). I love pork but it has given me digestion issues (constipated). BUT, that was before I lost my weight so maybe something has changed. I would just limit the amounts. Also, for stuff like camping or anything like that don't worry about your diet, just don't pig out too much. Have fun!!!
Hey Big Cat! We'll congrats to you and your Mss"on your great journey. Your looking great, happy trails my friend. I'm kinda of in the same boat you were and will be starting my journey this week. Keep it up and GRIDDLE ON DUDE.
Big Cat, I'm so happy for you, and you look good, also Let your wife know that she did an awesome job with you going through your wait lost journey. Making this video was a great thing to do because I'm on my weight lost journey, and your video gave me the inspiration I needed. Take care and Mike again I am so happy for you and your wife.
Absolutely fantastic journey so far, Mike! Keep up the great work and cooks! Starting my journey also, Dr trip done and trying to get back to where i was 3 years ago! Keep it up, brother! 🍹
You stud... Nice job my brother. I try and preach all the time to my BBQ Brothers to stay in shape while doing what you love.. I did the same as you, first trip to the doctor. Now I do the gym 5-6 days a week, eat once or twice a day, and best of all, I cut out 97% sugar (like a dirty keto). I use low fat creamer and monk fruit in my coffee. Also just like you, I do intermediate fasting once a month. (48hrs) Keep it up.
I say your most likely an amateur cook if you cook your bacon hot and fast. Bacon IMO shouldn’t be brittle and taste burnt. It should be crispy but also chewy, it taste better. It goes for cooking eggs low and slow for creamy moist eggs. There shouldn’t be a layer of burnt eggs on the pan. But I guess we all have preferences. And also like cooking steak it should be cook medium -rare not well done, it loses flavor and texture.
Big Cat, I love these videos and use many of your techniques. However, the Big Cat status may be in jeopardy because it looks like you a lost a bunch of weight. That’s a good thing and what is your secret, I’m struggling to drop some extra weight. Keep up the great videos.
As Usual, Awesome Vid Brother. My Omelets turn into scrambles. I get to excited and try to flip before they're set up. Oh well. Just Keep Griddlin'. You live and learn. Be Blessed & Take Care. 😊 Shawn
