I'm about to order one. I'd love to hear your thoughts after 11 months. The forward drive looks pretty slow compared to manually pushing the mill. Do you find it's worth the extra cost? I was going to go full hydraulic since I'm upgrading from a fully manual mill. It looks like that one log stop took a pretty big hit. Did that turn out ok or did you end up having to repair anything?

Norwoods options for engines are horrible. their biggest engine (26 hp ) option is way under powered for a machine capable of 34 inch cuts. why do they not have a 35 HP ( or more) option ?

My HD 38 has been a complete nightmare!!!!! Major problems getting the cable system to pull level and the yoke bolts have about 1.5" difference showing on the threads. One thing I just noted in your video is when you installed the non-operator side cone, you pushed it toward the flange and not toward the bearing. I have to go back and look at my manual, I thought it said to push both cones toward the bearing. THAT COULD BE MY PROBLEM> I have sent emails with pictures to Trevor and he has never addressed the issue!

I had the same experience when I pulled the oil drain plug! Good to see you're making progress on the mill! I'm looking forward to seeing it run. Hang in there, you've just about got it. Norwood just uploaded a 3-part video series on building the mill that might be helpful for completing it. Here's a link-- hope it helps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gSMm-PVQwts.html

@@ljmilling9157 Hope you'll post more videos of the mill in action. It took me much longer to make the video that it should have-- about six months. Lots of little things like getting my hand in the way, bad (or no) audio.... then, when I thought it was ready to go, Norwood told me that they had changed some of the parts, and I had to tear it down to where the spacer cones go on the winch, and rebuild it from there! Of course being a grandpa, other tasks around the place, and milling for the occasional customer stretched the project out a bit. I'm going to try to get on the Norwood Connect forum on a more regular basis. Hope you'll contribute your experiences advice there, as well.

put a piece of threaded pipe for an extension on the oil drain it will save a lot of mess. but there is usually lots of sawdust around to clean up oil. 5 weeks today i am waiting for my 38.had a 36 for 5 years. i see a few mods lots the same

I have had and OS27 for 2 years before I decided to upgrade. There is a tube that attaches to the oil drain valve that will make it so the oil clears the saw head.

You forgot your winch shaft braking system
@ljmilling9157
@ljmilling9157 2 года назад
You made me check the manual but there is not a brake on the HD 38 it is all held by the motor. My Fronter OS27 has the break so I know what you are talking about. I looked thru the parts that I still need to install, and don't see any brake parts. I wonder if you need to remove the brake from the HD36 when you add the power lift?
@ljmilling9157
@ljmilling9157 2 года назад
I emailed Trevor over at Norwood here is his response There is not a separate brake in the motor it is held in place just with the magnets & another reason its so important the battery be properly charged.

Hey buddy how are ya? I’m about half way through assembling my hd36v2 saw head, the way you did the assembly looks better than following the manual. I see now how the hd38 has so much more time over the blade . I hope to finish the assembly this coming week. @@ljmilling9157 I was gonna make videos of the assembly of my mill but I couldn’t follow the manual as I thought I would. I had some issues with my log bunks not being as they should be. Norwood has assured me the issue won’t be an issue hehehe. So I’m thinking RU-vid may not be a thing for me. I have too much to do before the snow flys. I won’t be able to find the logs if I don’t get busy making sawdust. I can’t wait to see what ya build or do with the lumber you make. I gotta say having the sawmill and the ability to harvest my own logs is very freeing I can build what I need from my own resources. Maybe make a buck or 2 on the side.

I have a fronter OS27 that I have had for about 2 years. So, I have the advantage of having built a Norwood mill before. But the jobs that have been coming my way I needed a larger mill. As for the manual you need to read it front to back then back to front many times. The answer is there but it may be 20 steps later. There have been times I have had to redo a step because I did what I thought it said but not what it actually said LOL.

@@ljmilling9157 oh my I’ve been down that road already. It seems I’m able to assemble the mill backwards just for practice. In the end I’ll have it sorted out. I really wanted the hd 38 with the dealer throat but figure the 36 will do for now. I have access large overly heavy logs so thinking a Lucas 10/30 may be my next purchase just have to see how business goes.

How did you close the rail(not track) gaps as you assembled the unit? ..I got mine all leveled and ready to tighten and there's these small gaps..it too heavy a structure now to push them together..
@ljmilling9157
@ljmilling9157 2 года назад
As I was assembling the bed a drift pin was my best friend. I also tightened some of the bolts to get the rails and splice plates pulled tight then backed them off just a bit so that I could fine tune the rails. All of my rails butt tight but there are a few small gapes between the splice plates. As for your problem I would start at the center and work outward, pull a bolt and use a drift pin or a pry bar www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/hammers-pry-bars/pry-bar-set-3-pc-68339.html to pull the rails together. Tighten one bolt each side of the joint before rechecking level then move on to next joint rinse and repeat. I left most of that out of the video just me bent over trying to pull things in to alignment. Your right about the bed being heavy, specs say that it is 755lb. I had to use my tractor to lift it to get the blocks under it.
@heyyoubuddy6749
@heyyoubuddy6749 2 года назад
@@ljmilling9157 I’m using a drift pen as well and I’ve also used a couple of ratchet straps one on each side and tighten the snot out of it so I pulled everything together.
