My name is Lauren and I am the artist behind Potato Art Studios. I specialize in drawing cats, dogs, and other furry creatures in pastels. I love sharing tips and techniques that I’ve learned during my art journey. I’m a firm believer that teaching is an integral part of growing as an artist. Remember, there are no secrets or shortcuts to becoming a “good” at art. It just takes time and practice to hone your skills.

This isn't a good review, it's more a how to use it and boring list of dimensions. I would want to know: - how does it compare to A frame type - how is stability - how comfortable is it to use -....
Very nice and thorough review! I've heard you can also sharpen leads for lead holders on the opposite side. Don't know how thick. By the way is brass bad for us as some believe because it contains lead (pb). Would love to hear your opinion about the M+R pollux, castor sharpeners. And the brass DUX adjustable
Thank you for the video, just going to watch Part 2 I plan to use my photographs in Zines and i plan to have a Watermark covering most of the image area but with the density reduced. I have yet to create it and just kicking around ideas, including using the Copyright symbol
So thorough! Thank you! I'll probably keep sharpening my softer stuff with a boxcutter, but it's nice to have a good sharpener and replacement blades for quick and easy sharpening when out of doors. I bought all that stuff using your links. Thank you. Impressive.
I appreciate the support Pelle! Thanks for watching. I would use the boxcutter method if I had more confidence using larger blades. Nothing wrong with using what works for you.
Screws are not too soft,They are 100% hardened steel. Screwdrivers though, always come with the hardest steel. That beinf saidm the ONLY way, to damage a screw, is by using the wrong screwdriver (usually smaller) or wrong type screwdriver, or using the right one, in a wrong way. Hope this helps.
I watched your video last week and thought wow, I need the M+R 602 round. Maybe I missed it on the video but I needed the sharpen Conte Paris large diameter pastel pencils. The sharpener just arrived this morning. I’m VERY disappointed. It broke the lead two out of three of pencils I tried. The diameter of the lead in Conte Paris larger than the smallest section. Had some success on one pencil with a fairly sharp but SHORT point. I’ve ordered a 60 set of Fabre Pitt pastels, we’ll see if it works on smaller diameter. I need to keep searching and watch some additional videos, probably electric, don’t know. DO NOT BUY THE M+R 2 HOLE TO SHARPEN CONTE PARIS, IT DOES NOT WORK.
Hi Jim, I appreciate your feedback with the 602 and Conte pastel pencils. Conte does have a tendency to break more often than the other pastel pencil brands I own (Stabilo, Faber-Castell, Koh-I-Noor, and Derwent). I think it's a combination of the pastel core to wood ratio and the formula of the pastel itself. I've found that Caran d'Ache pastel pencils break about the same frequency as Conte because of the soft pastel formula. Unfortunately with the fragile nature of pastels, there will be breakage - but the Mobius and Ruppert sharpeners consistently perform the best out of all the sharpeners I've tried so far. Faber-Castell PITT pastel pencils do handle very well in the 602 sharpener. They have a very firm pastel core. I think you'll be much happier with the performance of the 602 with your PITTs.
You're an awesome artist and this portrait proves it. On looking at your posts please don't stop or slow down. Upcoming artists like myself need artists like you with tutorials like these. Well done.
I don't see the grid in your reference picture top left am I missing something? OK I see now, having watched further into the video, silly me. lol Nice one thank you. Liked and subbed.😊🧡
Thanks you. I was looking for a sharpener for charcoal & pastels. However pricing in Australia through Amazon is ridiculous. Sharpener is $25, blades $25 & husky tool is $38.
That is quite a markup! I would not buy the sharpener at that price either. I hope you can find a local retailer that carries it at a much more reasonable price Tania.
I use a knife with removable blades for my pastel and charcoal pencils. When you get used to it there is hardly nothing wasted. I do have the M & R but the other method works better for me.😊
My top choices are: KUM Masterpiece ( I hate ne for not getting this one sooner, thinking the Automatic longpoint is almost as good and more versatile. I was 100% wrong.) Next it has to be KUM Automatic long point, for its versatility, quality and performance. This round M+R is in the basket for my next order!
@@PotatoArtStudios KUM also makes some of the best Watercolor brushes I've ever used! Same quality as the famius brushes Da Vinci, but with way better price tags and the same,if not better performance! You should try the Masterpiece, its very versatile, because you can remove the safe stop. Also the tip it creates, is WAY longer AND stronger, compared to the poor automatic longpoint! Thanks a lot!!
Hi Shelley! I upgraded from PowerDirector 16 to PowerDirector 365 (annual subscription). It's not as fancy as Adobe Premiere but it has enough features for my level of RU-vid editing. What software do you like to use?
@@PotatoArtStudios I got rid of all Adobe and went with DaVinci Resolve. Still learning how to use it but it is much more stable than Premiere Pro. Artists never stop learning.
Hi, I am in the UK and have ordered from Jackson's a few times, packaging is always excellent, I always go for the cheapest postage and items usually get to me in two days. I have the big wooden box set of daler rowney, not used them much but the ones I have, I like. Jackson's own range of soft pastels are also nice and I own a few sets of them, really worth a try. I mainly use pastel pencils. Be good to know how you get on with the daler rowney as it's hard to find people who use them. Emma Colbert done a pastel test on youtube and rated them, and I have watch Karen's youtube demo.
HI Gabhriel, Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Jackson's! I agree their Jackson's brand pastel sticks are also a great buy. I've recommended them to several artists. I'll have to check out Emma's video. I follow her on RU-vid as well. :)
Uk site is not default any more - instead on google the American site comes up. Not good if you live in UK. Now do my ordering with them by phone. Should be able to type Jacksons Uk not have to change the web address. Perhaps Jacksons have forgotten their loyal UK customers.
Hi Leigh, I have a separate video available here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cE7O3DMz3rk.html Also, this website goes into more details about designing your grid: www.art-is-fun.com/grid-method
it would have been really good to see your original drawing next to the corrected image you are working on to check if the bird was distorted in anyway compared to the original. There is nothing in this video which compares the accuracy to your original artwork
