The Sentinel...always on guard and always at the ready....24/7/365, rain or shine, in freezing cold or unbearable heat, through storms and disasters, during crowded days and lonely nights. Never abandoning their post nor neglecting their duties, to all those whom are entombed there, known only to GOD.
Tell you what peoples, this shit pulls a tear from my eye. We aren't a perfect country but we're the damn best. And this tradition and these men don't allow the honor and respect deserved by our fallen, known or unknown to be forgotten. A lot of us gave a part of our lives for our country, our homes and our people. But they gave it all, every last bit of it.
For all intents and purposes, no, its not dangerous. Wooden stock + rubber soles (or really any sort of shoe) = lightning has no way of dissipating into the ground. "Direct and contact strikes each account for only 3-5 percent of lightning deaths and injuries."
@@Wikato It's a crazy world, never know whats gonna happen, but I'd say that in a major metropolitan area like DC there's probably plenty of other things lightning would strike before it found its way to a 7in blade XD

They aren't guarding AGAINST anything. They're keeping watch over and honoring their brothers in arms who who died in the service of our nation and are "unknown". who were never identified.Those who's families don't know their fate.
@@tommyodonnell9 well i knew it was mostly symbolic and honorary but figured since they are called guards and are highly trained and armed it probably wasn't just to keep the tourist away lol
@@remb9614 Technically, they ARE armed, but only with a bayonet. The Honor Guard don't carry live ammunition. You'll notice in any video of the sentinels that their M14's don't have magazines.
