My favorite teacher from Okinawa. I had a privilegy being corrected by him few times during JKF Goju Ryu seminars. Hope to see him again this August at Naha...
??Who are referring to? Inventing what? This is very old school Te. Karate before it was sanitized by Gichen Funakoshi, had grappling skills. Old style like my version of Shorinryu have low basic kicks, attacks to the legs, footstomps to the feet and knees.
Very nice Sensei Jesse! I love Naihanchi kata. Our version in Isshinryu is just slightly different but is virtually the same. It is often a very neglected kata which is a shame considering Choki Motobu practiced it all the time and said it will make you a good fighter.
Motobu Choki was a real fighter. He was criticized by other masters for always testing his karate out in street brawls. None of those others masters could beat him. At 42 he beat a young German boxer that was making money in Japan knocking out karate masters and embarrassing the art of karate. Motobu Choki got in the ring and taught him a lesson. Motobu Choki focused on kumite rather than kata. He went for practicality over tradition. You could say he was similar to Bruce Lee in that regard. He only taught a few katas because he considered most katas to be impractical. He was a real fighting master.
@@mr.joedirt8583The Boxer are Russian and he's beating Judo and Japanese Jiu Jitsu Fighters, Motobu are good but not invencible he never Beat his Brother in a fight another legendary Karate Master.
Constant practice over and over and over untill it becomes 2nd nature. To achieve the state of Musin. Move with out thinking. The body and mind act as 1.
@@RK-um2bjI blame Funakoshi-sensei that turned Karate in a Ballet Club the Motobu path are always about being effetive in a fight that's real martial arts.
John's Commentaries are really practical, down to earth and just common sense. It's the most reliable 'bunkai' I came across in my years of karate.✌✌👍👍💙💙
Thank you for this presentation; I sincerely enjoyed Perry Sensei's comments and, in particular, his description of the Bujin...absolutely brilliant. Elements central to understanding the nature of this unique Okinawan art, such as Bun Bu Ryo Do, Shin Gi Tai, and Karate ni Sente Nashi, present a too often neglected part of this cultural heritage, and the commander delivers it with wonderful authority. I hope you/he might consider expanding more upon this area so that we might all gain deeper insights.
