I had a 2012 MK6 GTI that I bought used. Just about every issue a GTI could have, that car had. The engine straight up blew up on me. It really turned me off from VW, but I'm starting to think that it was just a terrible previous owner and I just got really unlucky. Might get a MK7 in the near future.
I have had so much fun with my DSG, manuals aren’t really my cup of tea. I think people need to mind their own business with what transmission someone is happier with, I have already had numerous people hate my mk7 all because it’s DSG and I tell them please just leave me be because I am perfectly happy with it, I love using paddle shifters all the time in manual shifting mode and the DSG is so unbelievably responsive it makes it a blast to accelerate and hear the farts add to the noise my car produces. I have respect for my manuals out there because manuals was where superior performance came from back in the day!
Just bought a 2002 ALH one owner with 48k miles 5 speed. It’s a base model with manual windows and paint isn’t in best of shape. But just bought it to daily drive
I owned a 2012 manual GTI from 30k-104k miles. Had a window motor go out, the headliner came loose, and I think there was a recall on the coil packs. Only sold it because I wanted a DSG. Overall, it was a great car. Just change the oil every 4-5k and keep up with transmission fluid. Let them warm up before going hard. It did burn oil.
Hello Matt. I also have the mark 6 Gti sitting on 18x8 +42 with a 225/40/18 tires with also some bc coil overs. I was thinking of replacing my tires in the future with a 255 tires. Do you mind telling me what your full tire spec is ?( is it 255/35/18? ) and is there any issues with rubbing? Did you remove anything around the wall to make the 255 fit? Thank you.
i own a mk4 with the ALH. yeah it sounds like a tractor yeah it smells like a tractor and also yes it has all the stupid mk4 issuses that everbody talks about. would i ever trade it against another car? nope never simply put 90hp 210nm of torque doesnt sound much isnt that much is it enough for everythinf you ever wanna do yes probably if you dont want to pull something out of the ordinary. did i have issues with the engine nope not till now the bought it at 168k km now on 173k km cheapest car ever cost 450 EUR with everything got out with 1800 EUR spend now making comfortable 5l/100km pushed the engine to the limit made 196km/h on google maps 210km/h on the speedometer (the higher you go the more inaccurate it gets) will you have fun while driving yes the car is an absolute vibe i like older cars in general und this is just so smooth on the road and also last point as i always tend to say there is no such incline that the second gear cant take
2.0 tsi is a solid little motor, but removing the mk6 gti intake manifold such a time consuming task! German engineering is defintely more about performance, not the ease of maintenance.
I just pulled the EGR off of my golf alh, it was extremely clogged up which would probably explain why it felt so powerless, I'm so glad I finally got the tune and kit to delete it, I ended up cleaning and scooping out all that nasty sludge buildup in that pipe. Delete your EGR, it'll help a lot.
I’m driving a MKV TDI with the BXE motor. 320,000 km just replaced the starter motor brushes and glow plugs. The DSG transmission is superb and I haven’t touched it. I don’t think you should recommend manual for high mileage.
I have a 2000s VW Golf 4 1.9 tdi 4motion (AJM engine). 115hp factory, around 150 tuned stage 1. Still rocks with 420.000 km on the odometer. My first car, but i have it since 2017 and just don't want to buy a new car.
Every european: "1.9 TDI with only 500 000km? I must buy it immediately or somebody takes it first!" ...Meanwhile average american in his american bubble: "Ahhh, what's daaaat brotheeee... Some new engine I haven't seen before, so everyone will be surprised as I am! After I will create a video about it, I will also create a video about how to PROPER SHIFT in manual gearbox! THE FASTER, THE BETTER!!!! AMERICA FAAKKKK YEAAAA
I bought my Mk6 GTI with the DSG because it's just very livable for me compared to a manual. It's very smooth. Also a very reliable transmission as long as it hasn't had the crap beaten out of it throughout its life. Overall a reliable car if you take good care of it and keep up with the strict maintenance.
#2(i think it was) about people beating on manuals. That’s great point. Although i think inherently manuals tend to be more durable than a typical manual. Not so sure about DSG overall yet though. Still getting used it mine after the first two weeks of having it. Fun so far!
