The "Left" West Wing. In it's "obtuse" misuse of the 'Constitution", It is NOT the "Guns", but our own "Inclusionary/Immiigration(lax laws)", which allow for the our "'Unique" abuse by those, to use our system, flaunt our laws, then sue us, because we attempt to stop them.

Looks like SCOTUS slapped Toby and his minions down recently. You just have to admire how gun controllers conveniently ignore how many times a year that law abiding, gun toting citizens save lives and stop\prevent crimes.

Non-Americans shouldn't get in arguments with Americans about the statistics. This is Americans killing other Americans. Just be glad you don't live in that sad and angry country.

And there it is. The justification for the Second Amendment IS IN THE VERY FIRST CLAUSE. "A well-regulated militia being necessary for the security of a free state..." It isn't for individual security at home or on the street. Only a disingenuous reading of the amendment by people WHO JUST WANNA HAVE GUNS could interpret it that way. The intellectual dishonesty of Antonin Scalia and his sad acolytes in 'D.C.vs. Heller' (2008) was breathtaking. And the proof that it's bad, dangerous policy is the comparison between the number of gun deaths in our misguided, bloodthirsty country and in civilized countries like the ones Toby names.

Gun control in America is a complicated topic. On the one hand, Toby's argument does have merit, but it also ignores several incidents in American History. The two that stick in my mind are the Massacre at Wounded Knee and the Mumford act of 1967. In both cases, a marginalized community was disarmed to make dominating them easier. Additionally, Gun Control Advocates too often seem to not understand the tools that they wish to regulate, going after things like "assault rifles" that have no definition. Ironically, many of those who promote gun control also wish to defund Law Enforcement agencies who are supposedly to protect you in lieu of one owning a firearm. One could almost come the conclusion they wish to go back to before the 10th century AD, before anyone had firearms. However, gun rights activists seem to ignore the fact that an AR-15/Sig MCX-Spear is not going to be enough to stop a Local/State/US government that actively wants you dead. Frankly, the only thing that prevents this is primarily the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which while tradition, does permit exceptions for the military's use in civil matters. In short, we are talking Semi-Automatic rifles against artillery and tanks. If the interpretation of the Second Amendment the Gun Lobby often promotes were to be properly implemented, it would permit inner-city gangs and paramilitary groups to have these weapons platforms, which no one wants. All of this is why I look at "Gun Control" policies on a case by case basis of whether I support them or not.

The thing is.., we all hated the character, he had nothing much going for him because he was a kid, surrounded by huge personalities, but he had so much potential to grow over time. Wesley could have learned from them all and become a great Captain, which we could have seen in a return or something, rather than what we got in Picard

There are 10 Amendments in the Bill of Rights. The only one which begins with an explanatory clause, is the 2nd Amendment. Should that exception be entirely disregarded?

"Do you think it's because Americans are more homicidal by nature, or do you think it's because those guys have gun control laws" Well, considering the disparity between US homicide rates and European homicide rates was roughly 4:1 before gun control laws were even passed in those countries just as it is now...

i really never understood the whole, "i hate Wesley Crusher" thing, granted he wasn't my favorite character, but he was an interesting character that added more value to the show then if he wasn't in it at all. Now that ive watched the new Star Treks (such as ST:D) and seeing how rambunctious some of the officers / characters act, i hope some of that shade can be tossed their way instead.

It's not Wil's fault Wesley was an annoying character. Wesley and Geordie got screwed over big time by the writers. Geordie's tryst with Leah Brahms in the holodeck made him look like a creepy stalker.

Wil Wheaton has spoken a lot about his cruel, nasty , narcissistic parents, which made the cast of TNG sort of his family, as his own family life was appalling. His father was physically & mentally abusive to Wil, his mother was a pure selfish narcissist. Working on TNG he discovered caring, loving people, who treated him far better than his own blood relatives.

I like Wil Wheaton. I was 10 years old when that show came out. I saw the original but seeing Star Trek:The Next Generation with I kid in it. I felt like I could go to space. That he wasn't afraid of aliens or traveling in a space ship. His character was under rated. Next time the shows should stop and think if children are watching there shows. Put themselves in the children's shoes. Crusher was a positive character for children.

The last section of the second amendment says, "The right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". It doesn't say the right of a militia.
@gheller2261
@gheller2261 3 года назад
The word people modifies the word militia, as in the people's right to bear arms is connected to and dependent upon their being part of a militia. This was the intent (for all you pretend "originalists" out there on other issues) before the formation of the army, navy, etc. Since the day the US armed services were formed, the 2nd Amendment became irrelevant, just like the 3rd Amendment, which few can name without searching wikipedia. Nobody gave a damn about the Second Amendment until around 1970, when the right recognized it could be used as a political tool, just like abortion and school prayer. People are so easily manipulated.

I love WW, but it irks me how often they would present no serious challenge to Democrat positions. What we get in this scene amounts to ideological masturbation. The "gun rights activist" in this scene is a pushover who lets Toby walk all over him with disingenuous data and arguments that any high school debater could counter effectively. West Wing rarely presented a credible conservative position to contrast the main cast, but when it did, it was great: Ainsley Hayes, Arnold Vinnick, and Speaker Walken were good examples.
