@@garblehose You speak like a Kid with no Real Life experience. I had left a reply with a scenario before you commented that I'm guessing RU-vid deleted because of a depiction of Violence or something. What experience do you even have, Anonymous?
Im glad you are trying to teach your kid martial arts, but in the absence of a knife my 10 yo son would delete the 12 yo girl. He is a wrestler and gray belt in bjj. Fortunately she's safe from him because he is a good kid. He doesn't hit girls....... outside the mats😅
Terrific! One small comment, though: when she steps off to the side, her best attack would be (likely) a kick to the side of her attacker's knees, orthogonal to how they naturally bend. That of course is very unsafe to practice because of the huge risk of tearing the ACL, but for a real attack that would be the point. Whenever you do what your opponent doesn't expect, you have an advantage. Few attackers expect to be kicked in the knees from the side.
All of this is fine, but for self-defense what works for smaller weaker people is target focus training. Basically regardless of the style or method, you must learn to focus on striking the weak spots of the body. The human body is full of targets which are either timers or switches. Striking a particular one takes time to produce effect, striking another shuts down the body's function.
"Self Defense" classes are bull crap. You train what trained killers use consistently. I've seen this Keysi style before, and it is not that good. Better than tai chi or akido, but heavily flawed. And like akido, it might work on the untrained. Claims to have answers against grapplers and strikers, but ends up being a poor version of MMA. I wish someone would do Keysi in my MMA sparing rounds because it would be a relaxing round. I'm also a Police Officer that deals with the "self-defense" scenarios. I would never train this or teach it to other POs. What works is what trained fighters use
@moroniford7101 I was going to take you seriously, I really tried. But the first line, "self defense classes are bullcrap". Man. Such a general statement from a supposed professional. Being a cop gives you clout? I've known great cops that have greatly influenced the "self defense" world with nothing less than professionalism and positivity. I have also known a few cops that obviously could have been shown a bit more positive attention growing up. Wonder which one you are??? Anyways, thanks for stopping by with your professional opinion. I wrote it down, I promise. Have a great day, officer!
I taught my kids how to defend themselves, and they have. My son was swung on and the guy ended up with a torn rotator cuff. My daughter has used the mindset that I taught her to avoid attacks several times and probably more she’s not aware of, as well as getting away from someone who was trying to harm her. FMA teaches excellent weapons skills so that they can use whatever is at hand and be less afraid to deal with a weapon used against them. Be safe
@@lycandefensive I will argue that it was never safe and probably worse when our martial arts ancestors created the arts, but it ain’t changed much. Get your kids healthy and strong, both physically and mentally and when they are ready, arm them with legal tools to protect themselves and others with. Mine are grown now and still carry tools for self protection. Pepper spray (gel with dye is best imo) is a great fight stopper. A good knife, even a firearm if you are willing to train them. Also use the cell phone. Most phones will call 911 on speaker if you tell them to loudly. When dispatch picks up the other end, watch how fast the bad guys find something better to do. Lastly, teach them it’s better to be seen as rude or crazy than a corpse. I would rather be wrong about a good person than a bad one, so if they sense something wrong, do something. Go back inside the store or drive away. Run, or get ready (maybe pre-load your tool into your hand secretly) to fight. Be load and describe exactly what is happening and what the bad guy is doing for witnesses. Don’t expect help in the moment, but do expect witnesses after if they are around.
Basically escrimia…unfortunately all those years of training with the stick…complete waste for self defence…because…nobody actually carries sticks except when they go training…should be concentrating on unarmed and defence against knives & groups…all rest is great for teaching kids for self confidence,
@richardtodd6559 ah man, you almost made a relevant point, yet you just missed completely. There is a lot of benefit here, from body mechanics, to skill transfer, to attribute building, all the way to improvised weapons. Funny thing too, you bring up that we should be focusing on empty hands when the entire premise of the video is empty handed applications of what we would do with the stick and knife. Way to show up and look completely ignorant. Better luck next time. Have a great day.
You don't need to carry a stick, but you can carry a collapsible baton. There's also a walking cane or stick, but if you happened to be in the Canary islands, in the Portuguese countryside or the south of France. Rest assured that you are going to encounter people going about with sticks.
Where this comes in handy most is multiple people, when the shit hits the fan and you need desperation blocks. Also in odd positions like half kneeing down and on the ground being kicked and when your defensive blocking to turn into an attack. Its weakness is stand up punching.
Whether Defendu, Combato, or rough and tumble it's all the same. For self-defense you must fight dirty and anything and everything is acceptable. The game is about survival, not sports!
Thank you for the video, it's the first of your videos I've seen. I have two daughters and totally understand wanting them to be able to get out of situations as quickly as possible.
The way I approached training my son was like this: Boxing and folk-style wrestling were the base. Judo, Kali, Greco, BJJ, and Muay Thai were the next layer. Catch, Savate, Krav, and Sambo rounded it. I mixed in some Kyokushin, GoJu, and Wing Chun. I really like what you're doing, lad. Your daughter is getting some good training.
100% agreed. There are such smart ways to go about this that not only doesn’t harm natural growth but also produces benefits in other areas than just strength!
@@lycandefensive . Yes the proper methodology is very important, even for adults. Correct form and proper sequence of exercises, and focus on avoiding injury. Without a properly developed physically fit body, no matter which the best technique, it won't work. Specially against bigger and larger opponents.
The advantage of being a small teenage female is that 99% doesn't want to hurt you because of protective instincts ingrained in any developed human being xD
@Oshaoxin in a perfect world, you'd be correct. But this is a very nieve and ignorant statement for the reality that we find ourselves in. You don't have to look very hard to find examples ranging from sexual assult, human trafficking, straight-up bullying, and pretty much every crime out there that can be committed against another human.
AWESOME! That you're teaching your daughter this stuff! She was holding back BUT had some power to those strikes too! I worked like with my daughter when she was young, and now she's going to be a Marine Corps Officer! Great video!
Or they just have nothing else better to do. I sometimes see vudeos that I don't agree with or would never train. Know what I do? I scroll on, and that's it. It's really a lost art.
The short answer is that the base is dropped considerably from a traditional stance, and there is much less of a gap between you and your opponents (extreme close quarters). Therefore, the mid section is a less likely target, and in the event of a surprise strike, it's easy to adjust for. I would definitely not recommend keeping the high guard in kicking range. That's just asking for problems. But, in very close, protection of the head and it's knock out points remains high priority.
Short answer is no they don't Long answer is nooooooo Source did all three for years and was on the onstructor program. Saw how much of a bullshit artist they all are. Ive met andy norman and no they dont pressure test this shit.
@BeepBoop2221 gotta say man, I agree with you. And if this is a true representation to how you feel, we have a video or two coming down the line that I think you'll enjoy.
@BeepBoop2221 I have, since the release of this particular video, walked away. And you know what? Best decision (pertaining to my martial arts journey) that I have ever made. I started in 2012, was diligent in my training, and I can say that I have no regrets that I walked away, except that I probably should have done it sooner. All that being said, there are some things that I picked up along the way that I think are useful. But overall, I agree with your assessment.
@lycandefensive I do feel that some of the stuff, using the shell as a reaction. Perfectly fine. However as time went on things got way too into the weeds, we were drilling punching behind ourselves, the grappling despite andy being a purple belt was terrible. That's not even getting into the buisness practiced and MLM stuff I hope you're better off now you left, when I left I felt like I should have done it years before.
You know that a system is bad when 1 they are being critiqued by master wong and krav guys and 2 in the video that is supposed to prove its effectiveness they keep showing horrible, really horrible grappling that wouldn't work on my paraplegic grandma and show absolutely no sparring even when they say that they do it costantly (yeah those footage were not sparring whatsoever obviously).
8:06 ohhhh yes it does. there is a reason why boxers don't raise their arms that high. bringing your arms back down to protect your ribs is too damn slow and if the guy in that video wasn't clearly telegraphing his punches, then you were not going to stop them. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
@@UnexpectedWonder you ever tried punching a fence post as hard as you can and managed to not break your hand? first of all, if you're punching someone's face and still able to use it properly after, then your punches are garbage. second of all, who takes body shots? someone who isn't a complete idiot and knows how to fight
@@garblehose 1. Why are you breaking your hand? You don't know about Bareknuckle Boxing and properly punching. You completely screwed up what I said. I asked a basic question. 🤦🤦😒😒🙄🙄
@@UnexpectedWonder I chose not to answer your question because it was too stupid to deserve an answer. Instead I responded to the implication that you seem to think that you can get away with punching someone's skull, hard enough to do them harm, without injuring your hand, like in the movies. Honestly, saying you learn how to "street fight" is one step away from being that internet moron who says he "learns how to fight multiple attackers"
Its funny how people who trash kfm and dl never do them same with 52 blocks prison fighting system. Many , if not all moves found in kfm and dl can be found in 52 blocks (in addition to many other blocks) which has been tested for decades in prisons.
the worst thing is, that on this kind of demo videos, there always are always trying their best to look good. If on a demo, they look like this, imagine actual training. That's just ridiculous fr
I haven't ever seen a demo in any art where the demonstrator wasn't trying to look good. That's part of the purpose of a demo. But i do see the point you're trying to make, I think.
I am mixing some of the keysi conceps with my boxing and kickboxing, and i have been sucessful with some of those blocks and hammerfists, i wanna do some sparring with 2 or 3 friends at the same time to test some of that stuff, but it seems like it would work with multiple opponents when you're surrounded and can't use footwork to evade
To improve your speaking skills it's important to cull unecessary pauses like Um and Uh. I had to train myself to cull those from my speech when I entered the military to be a mire efficient speaker and teacher.
Well, you seem to be a great teacher... I've learned techniques form your videos that work! So I just thought if you show the partner doin the moves after you teach them, it may give others confidence to try.
It's OK, buddy, as I'm not really trying to sell anything. I have said it before, I am a harbinger of different perspectives. I don't really care if you want to do this or not. My only goal was to put this out there so as to bring more light into what these guys do. I have done that. Where YOU go from here doesn't concern me, the same way as where I go from here doesn't concern you. Train hard and enjoy the journey.🙏
@@lycandefensive thanks pal!...of course I always have my mind open, and I believe if we practice hard and with heart...I want to belive things will work fine!...enjoy your practice pal!...success
You're in a fight and both your hands are covering your face? Next time you move your hands you will no doubt get a fist or foot in the face. You need more visibility in a fight not less! This looks exactly like the type of guard used by people that can't fight to try and absorb most of the damage to their arms instead of their face such as wives getting beaten up by their partner or young people getting bullied. It's a nonsense but obviously I don't know what I am talking about!
I had the same critiques when I first saw this system as well. There are ways to maximize the visibility within the structure while still covering the areas you need to cover. And you're correct in your observation. This does mimic the natural response to "shell up" when overwhelmed. That's the point. Through training, you learn to turn this response into something you can use for defense. Now, does it work all the time, or is it the best way to operate? I don't know. That's for the individual to find out for themselves.
I am an MMA and boxing practitioner and everytime i sparred multiple opponents just for fun and self defense ai actually used some concepts of Keysi a modified version of the pensador and some hammerfists to hit the guys that come from the sides when i fail, to circle out i use the pensador guard, and hammer fista in an agressive way and it really works wel, but not using only keysi when i spar multiple opponents, keysi is a transitional thing for me when fighting multiple opponents not my go to, but it works
I am 56 this year, I have been training in martial arts since I was about 13 (started going to a local Kung Fu class due to being bullied at school) and am still training as I can, despite a trashed knee from an accident 30 years ago, finally catching up with me. One point I think is worth making here, I have been attacked a few times, ranging from something which just ended with me joint locking a guy in a car park and walking away, to being beaten and hospitalised buy 4 guys, to someone with an iron bar and another (separate times) person with a knife. Your attacker(s) do not care if you are old or sick or feeling down, they will target you, being a participant in your own self defence is essential and training a effectively as you can, whatever your age, is key to that
great video David! The problem with many "knife defense" techniques is they are from a martial art that is NOT blade focused. Would people ask a basketball player how to tackle a running back? Look forward to training with you again my man! and I need some pointers on building my yt channel! lol. Youre doing a great job!
