Hi! My name is Wera, and I'm here to share my passion for digital illustration. I'm a Procreate and Affinity Designer artist based in Berlin, Germany, originally from Poland. ___________________________
Thank you for this tutorial! I'm following the steps but my pattern preview has lines between the four squares, I made sure that the stroke and fill are the same colour and I checked the dimensions are all the same, what am I doing wrong? I found a solution if anyone else has this problem, after much googling, turn antialiasing to 'force off' in the layer options, it seems to have gotten rid of the lines, app I'm not the only person having this issue
Hello ,Weronika thank u so much for all ur lovely tutorials, i'd love to start working on Affinity but i really want to know if i can use a png file in the pattern design ? I have a huge library of hand drawn items i already done and i want to create patterns on affinity using them is this possible?
i am a beginner illustrater, i tried to use adobe illustrater but its kinda complicated to me then i started use affnity and now i started to learn liitle better
@@persebra Thank you for checking it out! I’ll be uploading it today 🌸 I will let you know when it’s live on Gumroad. Probably in the next hour :) Thanks for checking out my website!
Thank you so much! Looking forward to taking your Skillshare class. I worked in Illustrator exclusively, then learned Procreate but miss vector, so your classes on Affinity came at a perfect time!
I watched your course in skillshare but unfortunately I can’t afford to pay $30 a month to watch it again. How do you save this once you are done ? When I save it my pattern is a small square and doesn’t fill up the whole section. I hope that makes sense
I love this video. Got Affinity about 3 months ago and also just bought the Frankentoon El Malo pack. Going to do your Skillshare class to get more familiar although I have been playing with the taste brushes. I bought a whole lot of Procreate brushes than can also work in Affinity. Being a graphic designer I understand 100% why you would rather use the vector brushes ❤
I really liked this explanation of vector brushes. But the problem I had when submitting work to the Shutterstock website was that they didn't accept rasterized images. I'm in the vector field and feel sad.
I know what you mean, yup. I have one fellow pattern designer friend who had the same issue. Indeed, Shutterstock in this case is your client and they have such specs, no raster layers. So your personal style has to adapt itself to the vector environment. If you need to explore more depth in vector art, you might wanna play around with "blobs" of shadows and highlights to make your shapes more 3-D. But then again, it all depends on your personal style.
Thank you! It was a lot of testing hihi. But now with time, I have some favorite brushes and I keep re-using them. I think the same process as in Procreate, when people buy a bunch of new brushes but they still need to learn them, and "get to know them"
These walkthrough/ process videos are my favourite! I feel like there’s so many that happen for other programs but not many for affinity designer. I think what is the most helpful to me is seeing that it’s a long process and you go back and change things when you’re not happy with them. I get really stuck when it comes to the bigger elements and feel like I’m not succeeding. I’m definitely feeling more motivated to try it again.
Thanks so much for sharing! Illustrating is definitely not a breeze hihi. So many variables come into account - how your personal style translates to the tools that you are using, your color choices, contrast, the general readability, and also the end-product in mind. It takes a lot of figuring out and it gets easier and faster the more you practice. And true, there aren't many great Affinity Designer tutorials out there, especially not in general illustration. Maybe a bit more in pattern design
Sorry guys if it was again "too short". It is a challenge to squeeze in my 10-hours-long process in less than 1 hour, but maybe you could give me feedback if it should be more slow next time? I appreciate you taking the time to have a look! ^^
Question no.1 from outside of the chat: how are vector brushes any good? I wrote a whole blog post about it and I'm a big fan! Check it out please: www.weronikasalach.com/blog/vector-brushes-vs-raster-brushes-in-affinity-designer

Happy to hear! I was also kinda not sure about those settings. There’s still not many Affinity tutorials out there, so I was figuring things out with trial and error 🤭
