Hi, after i have linked it to my Home assistant on my computer, can i take the ESP32 device and plug into a power source instead of my computer? I managed to make it work with my home assistant however, when i unplug it and place it somewhere else, it says "This entity is no longer being provided by the esphome integration. If the entity is no longer in use, delete it in settings.". Any advice please?
After searching for some time, finally this did the trick! and it worked for me. Thank you so much, this is extremely helpful, clear and easy to follow, Excellent work! you have a new subscriber, keep up the good work
I was having trouble with installing Balena Etcher using this guide and the current version of Ubuntu (24 as of writing). Switching to version 22 of Ubuntu solved my issue.
I did everything like in the video but Home Assistant isn't copied to the ssd of my Intel Nuc. It only works if I let the USB Stick with the HA Image on it in the Intel Nuc. What did I wrong?
Thanks so much on a clear, concise and easy to follow guide. I've been running HA for well over a year in a container on my NAS,, but I've been slow to get to grips with how containers work. If you're reading this and you have a QNAP or Synology NAS, using their Container program, I highly suggest installing Portainer to do any actual backend stuff (it's also better for duplicating containers to create backups), the Container app and Portainer will run side by side. I found QNAP's Container Station wouldn't run the install command, threw up bad download link error, but Portainer worked as shown in the video a treat. Needed HACS as I'm considering Meross plugs which aren't officially integrated.
Thanks for the feedback and the input! I'm glad the guide was helpful and that Portainer worked for you. I’m sure your tips will be valuable to others watching the video.
HI great video thanks. the flash to the diskonkey is taking hours ? How can i debug to figure out the issue? I tried with a 2tb disk it gave a warning that the dik is very large.. i allowed it.. but after 2 hrs i crashed the balenaetcher ..then a 16GB also same issue.. Another question Must i flash the usb only on the target computer? Regards
Thank you for your feedback! The Ubuntu OS should be flashed onto the disk on key. It usually takes just a few minutes. You can flash the USB on any machine you prefer. Let me know if that helps!
I already did this method some time ago and used the sensor in Home Assistant, but it stopped being recognized there, I tried to reset it, but the Bluetooth icon does not appear and I cannot pair it, can you help me?
It seems the 'api' line is not included in the configuration from web.esphome.io/. I'm currently working on an updated video that will cover all the latest instructions, including this.
Using a Bluetooth proxy with an ESP32 is preferable over a USB dongle due to better stability, driver support, and performance in virtualized environments. www.home-assistant.io/integrations/bluetooth/
It's almost the same: 1. Open a terminal 2. Change to the user that is running Home Assistant 3. Run the HACS download script 4. After the script completes, restart Core
Thank you! The specs say the LD2410 is meant for indoor use, but I don't see a reason not to use them outside with proper protection. Just make sure to use a waterproof enclosure, a reliable power source, and ensure good Wi-Fi signal. I don't have an example of an outdoor setup, but those tips should help. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@SimplySmartHouse Thanks. seems the LD2410 is dedicated to home assistant system? can it be used independently like ESP32+LD2410 or Arduino + LD2410? I did test some thing likely, but the LD2410 out keep HIGH and never turn LOW, how?
@@sunhilldiy No, it can also be used independently with an ESP32 or Arduino. Although I have only used it in Home Assistant, I would try changing the sensor's sensitivity.
I think an ESP32 can work with both a mmWave sensor and a camera connected to it. However, both the mmWave sensor and the camera are power and processing-intensive, which can lead to performance issues and instability. I've seen many projects integrating a PIR sensor with an ESP32 cam, which might be a more suitable option. What's your use case?
That looks great, I have an air conditioner controller that I made with an esp32 is it possible to add the ld2410b or c with the same board? Can you make an example
Thanks! I believe it should be possible. Unfortunately, I don't have a specific example at the moment, but integrating both should be possible. You'll need to manage power and pin assignments properly.
Any chance that you can help ? if you have time and maybe know what I did wrong ? :) Because I am getting errors ! :D 10:50:45 PM: Hardware Revision String: B1.5 10:50:45 PM: Software Revision String: 0130 10:50:45 PM: Firmware Revision String: 1.0.0_0130 10:50:45 PM: Detected Mi device 10:50:45 PM: TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'substr') 10:50:45 PM: Something went wrong, too many reconnects
Finally got around to doing this - I purchased a bunch of Xiaomi sensors and didn't realise my little intel NUC had such terrible bluetooth range! Two months later I have my temperature and humidity stats again 😆
@johnthomas2970 That depends on how strong is your Esp32, you can probably get away with a PIR and Bluetooth proxy, but I wouldn’t use a mmWave sensor with a Bluetooth proxy for example.
For those finding this after May 2024 and having issues: Use exactly Ubuntu 22.04 as he states in the video. If you need to download it, you can also download it by using a Torrent Client (also stated on the website) which is way faster. To compare, latest version took me 5 minutes for 6 gig, the 22.04 took me 4 hours estimated for 5 gig. Using the bittorent client it took roughly 10 minutes. If you downloaded ubuntu 24.04 like me thinkin "later is better, right?" balena etcher will not work. You'll get errors in the range of "gconfig & gconfig2 not supported" or whatever it was. Trying to fix it is a whole rabbit hole, especially if you never used Ubuntu. Also a minor thing, after Home assistant is installed and you have that ASCII like thing. You have to go to another computer and do the ip adress thing over there. Apart from this issue which at the time of makin the video obviously wasn't a problem. Great video. Worked like a charm :).
@@SimplySmartHouse nope. My guess is that it can't recognize the Ethernet port. In windows 11 the Ethernet was working though. I ended up installing Debian 12 OS and installed home assistant there.
Hello! Thanks for the educational video. A question for you, dear author. Is it possible to configure the motion sensor in EspHome (ESP32, ESP32-C3) so that data is transmitted to the HomeAssistante server not via WiFi but via Bluetooth. Those. do everything the same as in your lesson, but the channel for transmitting readings is Bluetooth Such a sensor could operate on batteries for a long time.
Thank you! It's possible to connect the LD2410B and LD2410C directly to Home Assistant via Bluetooth: www.home-assistant.io/integrations/ld2410_ble/. However, when I tested it a long time ago, it had many issues.
I'm trying to figure out if I can use a Meshtastic node with the Bluetooth nodes so my Android phone can reach the node farther from my HA hub location. So far no luck
Having a problem with the instructions for installing Balenca Etcher. Running "sudo add-apt-repository universe -y" results in errors that state Skipping acquire of configured file 'universe/binary-amd64/Packages' as repository 'cdrom://Ubuntu 24.04 LTS _Noble Numbat_ - Release amd64 (20240424) noble InRelease' doesn't have the component 'universe' (component misspelt in sources.list?) I am new to Ubuntu and have not been able to find a solution on the net. Any thoughts?
Since yesterday, my devices are no longer working with this integration, even though they had been working fine for months. Do you know what might be the issue?
I’m not sure what happened; my devices work just fine with the BT home integration. Did you try to connect it to the flasher? The log might indicate a problem.
@@SimplySmartHouse Hello, how are you? Thank you very much for your response :) I've tried everything-redoing the connections using the flasher, deactivating and activating the sensors in BT Home, and unconfiguring them, but nothing worked.
You might need to add a Bluetooth proxy to the setup, but yes Home Assistant has a great Bluetooth support, regarding Tuya support you should check this out: github.com/PlusPlus-ua/ha_tuya_ble
Great video - for some reason I just can't get the esp32 to connect to wifi. I tried different 2.4Ghz networks and moved the devices to different locations for better signal. No luck! At this point I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue.. please help!!
Thanks! I never had that issue before, but maybe some help from the HA forum can help: community.home-assistant.io/t/esphome-esp32-unable-to-connect-wifi/621494/8
hi I installed bluetooth proxy. my question is. How do I integrate bluetooth devices such as temperature sensors and bluetooth bulbs from tuya without gatwey tuya? A thousand thanks
@@SimplySmartHouse thank you for the tip. But I don't have the Tuya gateway. Is it possible to integrate them without it? then I installed tuya BLE, but I can't call it as it gives me this error "Failed to load the configuration flow: 500 Internal Server Error Server got itself in trouble" now I'm trying to solve it but I've been looking for a solution for many hours but nothing 😭 if you have any solution I would be grateful 🙏
so i ended up selecting the bluetooth peripheral device option and then continued the process up until it started "installing" but it just stayed there for like 30 minutes. the only other options i had were a bluetooth headset and a serial port but no USB port option. any advice? i even downloaded drivers for windows and then discovered that not all micro usb cables can transfer data but i refuse to believe that the 1000 give or take cables i have are for power only because i tried them all and none worked. even one that i know was used to transmit temp and humidity sensor date to my LinknLink ehub didn't work.
so i just got the ESP32 board and i've connected it via micro usb to my laptop and went through the process of installing it, but installation seems to be stuck. how long should it be "installing" and "preparing installation" for? its been like 20 minutes.
thanks for the video and info! i have two questions: 1) is this process only to extend bluetooth range for HA? or can i do this process to simply add bluetooth capability to HA? 2) does the ESP32 generic board have to be connected to my laptop always in order for HA to detect my switchbot blind tilt bluetooth devices? P.S. i have home assistant green

1) It can work for both scenario, For the latter you just need to connect the bluetooth proxy via USB to your HA Green, and it works like a charm. 2) For Home Assistant Green, yes.
@@SimplySmartHouse no, I'm not sure how to do that. But I'm pretty sure that my USB port on my Microsoft surface pro isn't registered as a serial port or something to that effect. It doesn't seem to recognize devices. All it does is charge them. Yeah
