I understand the point about buying property does not automatically grant you residence However if I buy the property as a foreign resident for holiday purposes how long can I stay in South Africa before I’m deemed a tax resident. I have been offered postdoc fellowship at University of Pretoria starting from July 1,2024 to June 30, 2026. I have already applied in the high commission of Republic in Pakistan on July 23. I am still awaiting the outcome and today was the 35th day. I am surprised to know that, how can a Country keep waiting a Researcher who is going to benefit them in the Educational Field and in terms of Research. Its really Unfortunate, that how are these personnel dealing with the visa thing especially the Researchers who are going to help you. They have taken my passport since 35 days, and keep me waiting for the decision. Even this kind of visa is straight forward. I am a Ph. D. Doctor and I have no intentions to seek asylum or other means. I am just going there for Research purpose and I am supposed to come back after two years according to the agreement between me and the University. Its simply pathetic experience.

Hello, thanks for your update. I got 2weeks south Africa evisa for tourist. I arrived South Africa 2 days before the expiration hoping that on arrival in the airport i will be stamped in with 1-3 months stay. But instead i was stamped in with visa validation remaining 2 days and i just arrived. Are you saying that while I go for extension of the visa i still have 90 days before I leave?
I've been waiting for my permanent residence since 2018. So many foreigners are engaged in the process illegally but it seems the ones doing the process the right way are being punished by the delays. I'm hoping for a positive outcome with the new minister of home affairs.
