You can weld that yourself no problem Tasos the more you do welding the better you get anyway. I would just do two or three passes and get where the crack is up close to the top of the milled surface weld right across to the ends and sand those down. And obviously try burn in even slightly out the other side as much as possible on that first pass. I think its easy to get a cutting disc with bees wax on it and shave off any penetration that comes through the other side but obviously you want to avoid that on the sealing surfaces like you mentioned but I doubt it would be an issue unless you put way too many amps into it try aiming the torch more away from those points slightly.
Tasos, First let me say, "HELLO" from the USA.....2nd, I love your videos, they are not only Technically superior but the attending to detail is excellent. I would certainly work for you having worked on Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, etc......Yes, there is a lacking work ethic in people today. Working on these high performance engines takes Dedication, Attention to detail and knowledge - not everyone is up to the job......Keep up the Good work !!!! Love the Videos .......If I am ever in the UAE, I would love to stop by and say "Hello"..........again, all the best from the USA.............
Has anyone ground the casting off the timing cover where the oil pump chain eventually hits when the oil pump chain stretches. Is it structural or something else? I would like to grind mine off when it comes time to rebuild the engine.
Here’s 10 easy steps to fix a bad weld like this: 1. Clean the oil pan well, spend at least an hour. 2. Dremel out the bad weld. 3. Clean again using acetone. 4. Dremel again some. 5. Clean again. 6. Heat the area. 7. Clean again. 8. Weld it. 9. Grind it. 10. Put the oilpan in the garbage.
Hello Tasos. Would you have the part number off the little o-ring that blocks the power steering vacuum connection on the supercharger. My mercedes dealer in belgium says the part is no longer available. Thanks in advance.
I am one of your biggest fans and have learned so much from you - but I have to say I always found it hilarious when you have a lit cigarette but barely smoke it over five minutes or more :)
Welding looks fine Tasos. On casting like that who cares what it looks like as long as its pretty clean weld and doesnt leak who gives a chit. I wouldnt do the extra material repair your talking about id just leave it as is.
I have not laughed so hard for a long time. The best joke. Very interesting discussion. Another good reason to go to a dry sump for a competition engine so that you have a large reservoir of oil to feed the pump.
That sugar would not have got into that tank unless the person had the keys to the car since the fuel cap is locked. The person who did this is somebody the owner knows. Vandalism.
But the dip stick has an acceptable range min-max. Would filling to max not be sufficient to compensate for the higher revs, given that say oil level on the middle of the range is acceptable for normal / regular rpm?
What if you put the extra 400-500ml as in the example but don’t increase the rpms? Just a waste and more drag or anything that would hurt (an average) engine?
The other thing that doesn't make any sense so far is why they spend big money on billet camshafts. All aftermarket camshafts for the ea113 and even ea888 are not cheap compared to more common and popular engines. Plus unless you are making 700hp or so they are not worth the money especially for a street driven car. Big camshafts and big turbo it will drive like crap at low rpm and by the time the engine is moving and everything is starting to work then you will be over the speed limit or have to slow down for traffic or red light lol Im building exactly the same engine with alot of money spent BUT my engine builder said for my power level and application aftermarket camshafts are not necessary for a daily driven street car. Will lose low down torque. But i guess the owner of that engine liked the idea of being able to say he has those brand camshafts in his engine lol Loving this build series!!
Yes, it is nice to clean parts, but is this level of cleanly-ness really worth your health? The risk reward ratio is often quite bad with a lot of chemicals...
