Ironic how that exact same Tugboat is pushing the Buckeye, now renamed the Menominee. I can't help but love the sounds of the Moore chugging, it reminds me of an old diesel locomotive.
Nostalgia! Great footage yet again! Is it possible for me to use and share this footage on my youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage. Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards. Cheers.
First it was 25 million to repair her. Now it's 100 million. It looks like somebody is trying to make excuses to scrap her. Will the CALLOWAY be next for the long hall down the lakes like the Blough?
When steam demand is increased it takes time for the forced air to catch up to the added fuel in the boiler. In this case the engineer probable got a half ahead from a stop bell. Even though she has an automated combustion control system it's mechanical in the end and lags do occur.
It's a hybrid or combination RO/RO vessel. Roll on roll off. Vehicles are driven aboard the stern (rear) section and the bow (front section) is for general freight and containers. The poor countries in Africa are the final destination of a lot of used vehicles and construction/mining/farm equipment. Below deck is likely filled with old equipment, as they're heavier than passenger vehicles.
It was such a wonderful time of the year when the Columbia Transportation Boat would lay up for the Winter, and my Daddy would be home for at least 3 months. It was extra dandy if the boat would lay up in Fairport, Ohio. It meant we would even see more of him. He was a Chief Engineer.
mgtowfish73 Imagine one of the SI or VS models pushing a large wheel barrow full of taconite ore. That's Miss Ryerson for you! The top of her pilothouse resembles a tiara in my opinion.
Hi Jeff, I'm a producer with C-SPAN putting together a piece about the history of the Bramble for our "Cities Tour" project. We were in Port Huron in June and the pieces are set to air this weekend on C-SPAN3 (American History TV). Could I download a copy of this and us it in the piece on the Bramble? I'd be happy to credit you. You can take a look at the pieces we've put together at our website: www.c-span.org/series/?citiesTour. You can email me at ahoar@c-span.org. Many thanks!
