I did put on the same front tire that came with the bike just like your original front tire on a cool looking VMX rim that I put on yesterday and fortunately I didn't damage my tire and even though it shows to be tube type tire it didn't leak but the down side of it is that the VMX tubeless rim put an extra 3 pounds (1.36 kg) on the front of my Transalp 750. You are going in the right direction to achieve your goal for tubeless tire setup because those Transalp wheels are super light, and awesome video mate!
@cliftonsr thanks Wow, that's a big weight gain. I asked them and vmx told me it's the same weight as oem. Glad you like your wheels but I'll stick to my light weight diy😅
just an idea [hope it helps] when removing stubborn rim tape (?) I warm it a little a hair dryer is ok, Ive used my heat gun on low and a few passes the tape adhesive comes away a little better than when its cold. Only low heat just enough to warm it & I can touch the tape without gloves and no discomfort to me. in a pinch I rubbed the rim by hand - didnt have a heat gun. it takes longer, but the old tape had not been on a long time.
@bellyacres7846 thanks, this was dune at 31°c so I thought it was warm enough. But yes heat would help. In this video what I removes at the start was 3m 4200 that I used wrong. Removing tape was in the previous video. But thank you for the tip.
Hope that's true. But I've not seen any credible sources If it gets better suspension, cruise, and electrics that remember settings, might be worth the upgrade.
The bike has now had a few tumbless in the dirt, and everything is holding up perfectly, with no damage to me or the bike. The mounts for the crash bars do have some rust in the tapped holes where I DIDN'T install the upper bars. So the mounts are not stainless, but nothing else is showing any signs of wear or rust.
I have a 24 sv650 and I agree. I put bar risers on it with a Vstrom 650 clutch cable. I had an Africa Twin with a very sensitive throttle and this isn't as bad as that. Like you said, 3rd gear cures it, and is doable at town speeds. I really like it. It's a road bike designed for the road. Great fun. I have to get used to the clutch throttle thing. But, I've never had a bike that absolutely spared me from the wind like this one. I think they nailed it. Zen and the art of motorcycle design.
What anime song is this at 14:30??? I know it but can't remember the name, I think it could be like ngnl theme but at the same time like kiss of death? IDK HELPPP
I love Japanese bikes but this is true about the push you up to the top model to get things like tubeless. The Himalayan 450 can be specked with tubeless rims but not the transalp? If tubeless was an option on the transalp there would be one in my garage now
@slakk5093 honda worried that the transalp would take sales from the africa twin but in reality, if done right, it would take sales from ktm, aprilia, yamaha, and suzuki.
First thing, wanted to inform you I got Transalp as well (ex MT07 rider) and I absolutely love it for everything it does. It's really one bike to do it all. Now, considering the windscreen (I am 183cm tall), I just ordered a original Honda Taller screen which i tested once sitting on the bike and it seemed great for my height. Will add additional small screen like your MRA does have (AliExpress) and expecting all the wind to be pushed up from me and possibly even my wife as a passenger.
@veljkovic92 I'm 178 so maybe you'll do well to have the tall screen. That's pretty funny.maybe when we get a bike the future, we should chat first to see that we get the same bike again 🤣🤣
Exactly why l got the Transalp over Ktm & Aprilla in Australia. Ktm big issues, enough dealerships around atm, but Ktm likely to fold or go broke replacing warranty stuff. Aprilla dealership only in main cities. Honda around $16,000 Aus. I am fitting after market cruise. Would have paid in $20k’s plus if it came with Cruise, tubeless. I have fitted aux power, quick shifter, center stand & protection (sw motech). Fun bike!
@stevecoaster2360 I have crusie and just posted a tubless vidoe. I just started getting into off road, the electronics are fine at my level. But resetting the abs Wil get annoying. If I can figure a way to reprogram the bike to remember my settings it will be perfect
consider to use large diameter stickers over spoke heads, that way you aren't trying to seal between metal parts (head and rimm) but lay out the sealant over them ,leaving the heads free to move and don't disturb the sealant ...
Late to the party. I so enjoy your channel, just down to earth real talk. Regarding the transalp, it's on my shortlist. I just cannot look at the front headlight, and the way they picked the colors, this thing alone makes me walk past it if it was parked on the street. Is there anything, anything, visual trick or whatever to make it look better? decals? are there even after market headlight that blend better?
@moonbiscuit8742 there are decals. I agree, it not the prettiest bike, but it does look better in real life than in photos. But I'm no fashion person, as soon as you ride it, you don't care to much how it looks
man, that africa twin is gorgious,i love this bike and color.its just i dont want to spend those extra 5k and honestly i dont need so much big bike.i have commet to your channel many times.i havent purchase my new bike yet.i think i ll wait for the 2025 models.there are some that interest me,like the new tenere.or if honda give some better colors to the transalp.or if aprilia give a nicer headlight to the tuareg. but,man why are you doing this to yourself?what wrong with tubes?
10:26 False. A quickshifter is *not* better. The quickshifter is a solution searching for a problem. You do not need one. There is nothing a quickshifter can do, that you can't do manually with extreme ease. The constant mesh transmission does not care. If you're not cramming the forks and drum hither and thither with reckless abandon, you don't need the clutch at all, quickshifter or no.
Oh man, I was waiting for this video, and I’m gutted it didn’t work as well as we all hoped. See you in the next video, hopefully with a positive outcome! Cheers!
@Chris_Z. yes, resellers of VMX wheels that I mentioned in the outex video. If I had the money I'd have bought them, but those are $1500 before shipping, this approach (which workes in the video coming out next week) is under $40 I'm about 10k subs shy of affording kke😅
@dontrail9653 I've seen ktm can have a leak every few years. I belive the do a rubber gasket around each spoke. I figured out a better way to do it. That vidoe coming soon
@Diegoadavilab yes I did. It can if they notice it. It's not hard to remove if you need ot get warranty work done and veridian claim it leaves no trace. But better to email them, they are very helpful with these question
Got the same set from amazon or ali i dont know anymore. And fitted it tight so no "on the go" adjustments can be made. Went to Austria for a week and rode back over the autobahn at 160. No insects on my visor so thats good enough for me😊.
My pen is is smaller than most out there so I'm looking for bar end mirrors that give me a poor view, but look cool to help me get through life with this unfortunate condition.
I'm thinking of buying another motorcycle after 20yrs off them. I'm looking at adventure bikes, vstrom 800, transalp, then after more you tube watching came ktm 790, cfmoto, kove and a tuareg. I',m knowhere near test riding, as i don't own any motorcycle gear yet. But your videos are a different perspective than other motorcycle reviews. Now after visiting some dealers and some research, my thoughts: KTM, just no, too much going against them, cf Moto, looks good, but KTM. Tuareg: now there's a cool looking bike Vstrom: seems perfect, it just looks good, from everthing I've read it is just right. Transalp, just seems too honda, does what ot says on the tin, qashqai of motorcycles. I got home and googled little aprilia, it sounds as good as it looks. with some real quality kit on it. But! So question is Japanese reliability or Italian flare, I totally get you're logic for buying a transalp, would i do the same, i don't know, do i want the qashqai of middle wieght adventure bikes?
@@jeremycarr3920 I find the Transalp very fun in the street. I’m new to dirt so maybe the wrong guy to ask. Vstrom, the heat and weight are noticeable. Ktm 790 is my perfect bike… if it works…. Big “if”😅 Aprilia is going to have some more riliability issues than Japanese, but not as bad as ktm from what I hear. If I was in the USA, I’d get the aprilia no question. Transalp making 91hp was a big deal for me. If it made only 81 like aprilia for near the same price (USA and Europe), I’d have to go aprilia. Glad you liked my video. All good bike, Japan sacrifices quality/premium features thought the aftermarket helps. Europe sacrifices long term reliability. I guess the real question is, will you trade you bike at the end of the warranty, or, you’re hoping it lasts 10+years
@@indiaden no music in the video coming Wednesday 😅 Classic music is safe. Copyright free music can sometimes be a scame. These dead composers won't come after me🤣🤣
I have an SV650 and I really don't need any more power than what it offers. I do wish it had cruise control. When I think about getting a different bike, it would probably be the XSR900, since it has cruise control. I've tried different throttle locks, but find them to be too dangerous. The reason I still have my SV is because I don't do enough long distance riding to justify switching bikes. That and SV is such a great bike.
@@organichotdog3807 we had an sv, you can see that playlist. It was great. Money is the only reason we got rid of it. Mccruise for vstrom 650 might be able to be fitted to the sv🤔
The stock mirror I had on my Honda CB 1100 RS, Royal Enfield Scram, and previous Triumph Bonneville not only look like Micky Mouse's ears, my arms and shoulders obscured 50% of the view, I couldn't see cars or bikes following close and directly behind. Bar ends in the up position gives me a 100% unobstructed rear view. I haven't tried them down because I don't think they don't look cool on any bike, they're out of my peripheral vision, and, depending on the bike, could contact the tank on full lock.
@michaelburnhill123 no it couldn't. If the edges of the tape are fitted then a loose or tight spoke won't leak. The tape wasn't sticky when I pulled it off
Never had an issue with mine and I abuse the hell out of it. All internet BS. Maybe some of the early ones had issues but never met anyone who actually has other than people who flooded their bikes etc.
@jaymac_uk great. It's my ideal bike. But I've had plenty if commenter's with issues. Glad yours is trouble free. Second to none if it's a reliable one
@@KairyuRider no just internet hype. Know numerous people with them. Laugh at these “commentators” who have never had one. The transalp rusts and goes wrong a lot more. My mate sold his as it didn’t stop breaking down.
@@jaymac_uk you’re the only person I’ve every heard that even knows someone with a Transalp issues. But there are endless videos and forums of ktm issues. Some journalists has tech troubles at the launch. But I’m happy yours works. It would be great if yours was normal.
@@KairyuRider erm no. I had an Africa twin new in 2018 and that went wrong a couple times so I sold it. My friend had a brand new Transalp this year but sold it back to Honda as his screen failed three times, corrosion was forming on the wheel spokes and wiring plug connectors, it had a couple engine management issues so that was the final straw. Sorry but Honda are not what they were. They make them much cheaper these days. I thought about the Transalp but that put me off. The 890 platform is the best adventure bike.
@jaymac_uk I'm not saying your wrong, I'm saying I've never heard any of this before. But I can promise you, if this bike is falling apart a year from now, I'll be tossing a coin between the tuareg 660 and ktm 790. The 1 think I'll always say against any Japanese maker, they are cheap by laking all kinds of parts I need to ad myself. Ktm and Aprilia will sell me the whole bike.
@zrx4me1 japan only gets white despite all three colors made here. Honestly if I couldn't get the 91hp transalp, I wouldn't get it. I'd have taken the gamble on aprilia or ktm
Yep, I could see you struggle laying down both tapes on the front, it wandered all over. I've had a lot of experience with tubeless tapes on mtb rims, so I thought I knew what I was getting into with the Outex installation. What I learnt was you get one shot at getting it right with the tapes, you CANNOT reposition so you have to be extremely patient and extremely accurate. Just the right amount of tension on the tape helps, so having someone else to hold the wheel on a piece of carpet can be useful. My install took about 5hrs including deburring the nipples and cleaning rim with acetone then IPA (don't need to sand anything if the rim is super clean). I've done 25,000km on my kit in the last 3yrs on three sets of tyres. Holds air very well (loses 1-2psi/month), and I don't have to worry about tubes blowing out, which can be fairly disastrous.
@HaggisPower rear is perfect. The front overlaps wotht he bead, maybe something special with this rim. But I've redone it with 3m sealer. That video comes soon, tubeless is way better
I bought the Transalp for its reliability, which I hope is like old Hondas like you mention. I bought almost all the accessories minus the bash plate and crash bars(went Hepco and Becker for those)Planning on upgrading the shocks. I just hope the bike lasts me many many years. Close friend still has the 90s Transalp.
@tremorflow3614 I'm thinking suspension now. If I keep the bike 10+ years, then money we'll spent. Otherwise no. I've worked with yamaha japan and can't be specific, but there are design features with this bike similar to what we did at yamaha that make them less forever. So, keep up with engine oil and the basic maintenance and I expect this to be a 1-200k km bike and 5hen some... unless I trade it before that. But no plan to trade it any time soon.
Thank you for showing us the whole process, it was really informative! I want to do the conversion with 3M 4200 or 5200 on my Africa Twin, just waiting until I need to change the tires, so it’s all done at once. I would never go the stickers and tape route because there are so many cases on youtube and forums of such systems failing, so I don’t trust them. OUTEX deciding to give you only partial refund really says a lot about the brand.
@KikoBW7 I did the 4200 seal today on my front wheel. Video in a week or 2. Yes, wait to do tire changes at the same time. Taking the same tire on and off so much I damaged the bead. No beyond repair, but just an added headache
@@KairyuRider great, I’ve only read, but never seen a video of anyone actually applying the 4200. Looking forward to see your video and results! Best regards.
Any chance you could list the tools you used for the tyre change (stands also) been looking at getting a setup for all that myself and any recs would be greatly appreciated :D
@psalm116servant the fram mount for mine has rust now. Since I didn't use upper bars the rust is in those holes. Hope the bars are stainless, the mounts are not. Everything else still rust free
