I've always felt Mirrors was a highly under-rated and overlooked album. Many great songs on it, and this is one of them. Nice 2023 take on it it. Thank you for the post.
Man I used to live in Flint too, would have been cool to see them at the shop. But I got to see them a few days after this where I live now in Greenville, South Carolina. They played with Ice Nine Kills and In This Moment but honestly Avatar stole the show for me.
What a shame. MIRRORS is my all time favorite BOC album where, the art-large BOC community thinks it's their worst...and The Vigil is a bitchin' song as is... but to hear the other guys who didn't play on the original take liberties with it and try and make it better with their own spin is.... well... sacrilegious. That opening where the drums come in is supposed to be16th notes on the high hat... not 8's with a16th thrown in there where the open hi hat should be... for starters. Sorry... but I'm not happy with this "rendition". Just my opinion. Cheers. Great live rendition of one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite all time bands ever! Saw them at the Saban theater in Los Angeles and Pacific amphitheater a year or 2 apart. I am going to see if they are coming back to Los Angeles after posting this. Great musicianship. Great vocalizing, both lead & background! Love you guys! Thanks for sharing this JR.
Actually my first big concert was BOC back in summer of '81 when 'I'm Burning For You' was on the charts. This was at the Long Beach Arena (about 15,000 capacity). Thet had a large fire breathing Godzilla at that show.
No matter how big or small the venue they give everyone the big arena show treatment and have the talent to back it up, these guys are so super underrated, it's criminal.
This show was my 8th Avatar show (5th at The Machineshop). I saw them back in the Spring at Royal Oak Music Theater. I think Johannes' trombone has improved since then!
