Thanks for your previous title bond advice. I forgot that I have auto auction access member for another dealer I work with and cleared up that issue. 69 Firebird Trans Am I bought with no title and now going through the bonded title process. When I called Texas DMV, they said I have to get it inspected in person by the DPS but that the vehicle has to have an engine and transmission in it (last placed titled was in Oklahoma in the early 90s). Bought it without the powertrain. The new hire I have has been working out for a month now, and he will be installing the powertrain in the said classic, although limited in experience, he's trainable. Thank God. Best, J.P
My uncle is executer for my parents estate and he lives 7hrs away , when a vehicle is sold does the executer sign as seller and provide court document proving he is the executer? Being so far away should he sign titles first as seller to avoid mail delays?
You should call your local tax office that you plan to go to. I believe he signs his name as he is the executor and not the person whose name is the title. The state will need the executor docs to know he can sign off.
I have a unique situation: Dad died several years ago-vehicle's title in his name; stepmom never transferred the title to her name and now she has passed away. He had 2 children and she had 2 children before they married but they never had children together. Neither had a will. Will only the dad's 2 children need to sign the VTR 262 and have it notarized or will all 4 children have to sign? Thanks for your help!
If he did not adopt his wife’s children then only his two biological children would sign. It only needs to be notarized if they are not signing it at the tax office with an employee watching. Also you will want to verify there is no recorded lien if you do not have the original title.
@@buxtonautosales thanks for the response. Another question i have is… can i get a title transfer if i owe any traffic tickets ? And i got my title from copart like 3 days ago. If you could make a video on how to fill a title before you take it to get it transferred to your name would be great.
I don’t know about traffic tickets. You can call your county tax office. If you look at the other videos I have posted I have them on buying/selling your car and where to sign your title, how to fill out the application for title, etc.
Thank you for this video! My mother is gifting me a car. She lives in Oklahoma. I live in Texas. Do we pay any Texas excise tax on the vehicle (since it is titled in Oklahoma) or does the $10 gift tax cover that?
I suspect they have an in house painter and if you have the skill set the material is probably $200 to repaint that hood and roof. Only 103k on it they’ll probably try to get $8-10k but I feel like I made my profit if they can too that’s fine.

My husband died and did not leave a will. I am not going to sell it, I just want to change the title to my name. Do I need the form notarized? Do I have to fill out form 130 U? THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine that. You do not need it notarized since you will be signing it in front of a county tax assessor employee. You always need the 130 U when applying for a new title. You will want to go get it inspected before you do this as all cars need to have an inspection no more than 90 days prior to title transfer which this technically is.
Im in this current situation. So theres this truck im trying to buy from a gentleman, but his moms name is on the title which she passed away. He told me he has the will saying that she left the truck to him but didnt say anything about it being notirized. We have all the documents ready except that's what i want to know if once he gets it notarized then would that be it? He also wouldn't have to come with me to the tax office right or can he just give me copies of eveything?
If he gets it notarized he would not need to come but I think it would be smarter to have him come with you and not pay him until the tax office says the paperwork is good. I would also call the dmv and give them the vin and ask them to verify there is no recorded lien.
@buxtonautosales I see, yeah for sure I'll get him to come with me to the tax office that way we can make sure everything is good to go. As far as there being a lien on it, I had verified there is no lien on the vehicle. Thank you for your help.
This is a fantastic video exactly what I needed but I am needing what the cost will be it is saying 6.25% of the purchase amount so I am trying to find what the total cost is?
The title fee is $33. The sales tax is. 6.25% - but you should call your county and ask them. If the car is going into your name and you’re a child or spouse of the deceased they may not tax you. If they are going to it will be taxed on the value you paid for it or the presumptive value whichever is higher. Registration is $100. Your county tax assessor can tell you for sure.
Hi, I know your video is old, and im also unsure if you could answer this, but i just bought a car with a brown title, only remark being exempt. My questions about it is, does that mean its a copy of a clean title? Also, since I'm in Nevada, would i have any issues transferring ownership with this duplicate title? Thank you
Good video. I have a question, what if I bought a salvage vehicle(im not a dealer) and i want to sell it after getting it repaired. Can i just give a bill of sale with the filled VTR-61 Form and the pink title or do I need to get it rebuilt under my name in order to sell it? Sorry for my ignorance
No. Who's name is on the front of the title? Yours or the insurance company you bought it from? If it's the insurance company they have assigned it to you. You're not a dealer so you can't reassign. If your name is on the front of the title I would finish the process and then sell it once you got your blue "rebuilt" title back. Salvage scares people way more than rebuilt does.
7:32 yeah, I got a flyer slapped on the windshield when it was parked in the driveway at our old house in Copperas Cove for vehicles wanted to buy “going to Mexico”, which would be perfect for this one. No answer when I tried months later.. I still own it.. It’s a Honda element. I think 07 it’s like two years before they stopped making them so it doesn’t have the black body cladding on it and had some of the upgrades to the later models had. Automatic 200K with $1500 of front end parts and repairs mostly parts solid AC inop needs a compressor the mechanic said and the check engine light is on.. we done some work here & there to it (both power window regs) but it’s pretty solid. From what I understand where the second owners from the original, who compiled a folder of about an inch worth of receipts, so that goes with the vehicle. Looking to flip that. If anyone on the thread is interested, you have first dibs. It’s just sitting - not advertised; registration ran out close to two years now.
7:38 hey bro, you came up in my feed, and I took the chance, I hoped to be flipping cars by now it always been a dream of mine to get rust free cars & get em up nort’ to my connections there (having lived in the Midwest, my whole life).. that may still happen down the road.. at any rate, vehicles (cars especially) flipping and selling, has been in my blood my whole life pretty much (I’m 64). I’m retired but the wife and I have a full-time reselling business on eBay and other platforms. Anyway, I marked the video when you mentioned vehicles going to Africa! I had a gimpy Toyota all-wheel-drive Sienna minivan - loaded, I think the middle option package - that I think in retrospect I was guilty of burning out the little transfer case in it, by hauling way too much weight (bricks); never ever would I have realized in 1 million years the Achilles heal that part is in those vans it’s best a 10 to 15 hour job apparently and expensive but anyway I took a beating on that one and the guy was from Chicago. He came up to Milwaukee can’t remember how he got it home doesn’t matter, but he said it was gonna go to Africa. so funny, you should mention that! I have more comments but I’ll leave them elsewhere some other time sooner or later. Subbed liked commend. By the way, we’re basically next to Ft Hood in Killeen.
Thanks for the video. I am not sure if this video pertains to my situation… maybe you can tell me if there is a different video for me? A car was titled to my mom, who passed away. I lived with and took care of her, the registration was in MY name, I drove her everywhere. There is a will, that has not been probated, the will stated I would get 40% of the assets. My 2 siblings are the executors. What would need to happen to get the title transferred to me? I think the siblings would agree to let me have the car. Thanks!
So I’m not a lawyer. You’d probably be better off speaking with one than some random guy on the internet termed. BUT, what catches my attention is that you said the car was REGISTERED in your name. Generally cars are registered and titled to the same person. Whose name is on the title? If it’s yours, pretty sure it’s just your car and is completely excluded from the will. Next, what do your siblings say/think? You want to fight with them? Mom is gone. My grandmother who very much filled that roll for me before she died told me I had a fight coming either my mother when she died. And she also said, “these things happen in the best of families and ours isn’t even the best” All that to say, death, grieving, and greed brings out the worst in people. Hope you and your siblings can navigate that successfully.
Amazing channel. Is it true that Copart does not allow brokers to sell to people in the same state that the auction was held? They only allow for export only if that’s the case?
I’m not sure if that’s factual. Also some states let you buy certain cars from copart without a dealer license. I would recommend calling them and asking directly. Thanks for watching!
I have a new mexico salvage title for hail damage. The damage is pretty minor and doesn't need repair to my likings. The car is good shape except the hail damage of course. How would I get that registered, as I don't plan on buying any parts or doing any repairs Your reply will earn my subscribe
You would just put on the form that it was hail damage and no repairs were needed. Then sign. On the second page where it wants to know what parts were used just write in n/a. This is of course assuming you’re a Texas resident and you are registering the car here and it just as a NM title. If you are registering in NM you’d have to follow whatever process they require.
This might be complicated my husband's father passed away last year his stepmother wants to sell a vehicle to me his wife so I need the form to put the heirs on the paper and then put my name in the buyers portion and have it notarized correct?
The husband’s step mother, being the heir would need her signature notarized if she won’t be going with you to the tax office. Also if the vehicle has a recorded lien she will need to provide you with the release of lien if she can’t put her hands on the title.

Probably something like that. Your local tax office will probably tell you exactly what they want just be honest with them. I am sure this happens all the time based on how often it gets asked.
There is a process to convert a salvage title to a rebuilt title where it can be registered and sold again. I have a video on that process if you’re in Texas where I live. Most other states have a process as well.
My husband J and I just bought a 2003 Buick park Avenue vehicle in August, that has turned into a nightmare! This small dealer let us drive the car around to test drive it and we ended up wanting to buy it! He pulls out this out-o-state, salvage rebuilt title and I automatically told my husband, time to go! Of course my dear husband having went two summers in Texas without AC and our Honda on it's last leg and no other way to get to work, wanted to give it a go and understand how to take care of the paperwork. So we asked what we were supposed to do to register it, yet that bad feeling from this guy never went away, but pretty much our savings all did. Long story short, after we bought the car, came home with the salvage rebuilt title, went and got our inspection done like we were told to and got insurance, the two Texas forms were not filled out correctly. Dealer never signed the Texas form for him doing the work on our car (which works beautifully btw). We had to wait another week before going back out to the Houston area (about 3 hrs. one way) with the dealer, because of work, to take back new Texas forms for the dealer to fill out and sign, so we could come back home and register our car. Since we talked, met his family, and we're going to be junking our old Honda, the dealer said don't worry, I'll register the car for you in exchange for the Honda, and we would be getting the tags and plates in the mail or he would bring them to our place when he comes to tow our old Honda away. Well, it's been weeks and to this date, this dealer has never registered anything for us! We have made numerous calls and left messages with him, only to be told he would mail back all our paperwork, lying that he did, never providing a tracking number, then changing his stories over and over....NOTHING but lies!! Even getting another dealer tag from him early on (one he put on the car was about to expire and did) took us another week after expiration and constant pestering him to send us another. We have until October 4th, 2024 to get things done...I'm not sure we even can get it done. I have the bill of receipt we paid for our car, took a pic of the title, which the dealer had my husband sign in the back part and our inspection certificate, the man's DL and the promise he wrote on the receipt to return our money should there be any problems with the paperwork...well, obviously there is and there's NO way, we would ever allow this person to come for a visit! If someone here can possibly offer some suggestions or direction on possibly where to start, please do! I would greatly appreciate it. I'm going into the county office this Friday on our day off to see what they can do to assist us. I hate to be placed in this kind of position because he has lil ones and a wife to support from what I saw the last time we were there, yet you would think this person would value them enough, not to be doing stupid things like this to people and not following the proper venues in law, so people can register their cars. God only knows how all of this will turn out, but I appreciate this channel so much, because now I know about these forms and it's why I went back and required the dealer to fill it out correctly!!! If you are the registered owner of the vehicle you can file for a certified copy of title. I have a video on how to do that. If they are not in your name you would have to file for a bonded title to get one in your name. I’ve got a video for that too.

If one was mom’s and she passed a way you can sell that one using the Affidavit of Heirship form rather than a bonded title. I have that video too.

Good question. I asked my county tax office that same question last week. They didn’t know and gave me a number for the DMV. I will be looking into it.
It means that the car was previously registered out of state and they did not bring the original inspection in to the tax office. You’re good. Just take your original state inspection in to the tax office with you.
Great video. My husband recently passed in a motorcycle accident . I am in the process of saling everything just to survive as he had just turned 38 and we were not prepared for this as we should have been. Among these things are 3 trucks a car and the Harley and none in which I have a titles for. He only had the Harley a little over a month before the wreck and I have not been able to find the title or bi of sale he and his friend say he got the day of purchase. So it was never transferred over but he did have insurance coverage. Can this be use as proof of ownership? Along with fb messages between them? His main truck he did have the title to. He purchased from a auction company but never registered it and the title and bill of sale burnt in a house fire we had 2 years ago. But I believe I have pictures of the money orders and cash given. The other 3 are 2) 1972 trucks and a 1986 car we were given by a widow who wanted the property clean up and everything gone. She didn't know where anything for the vehicles as far as titles were. The car has some paper work in the glove box old insurance and registration etc but not the trucks. What do I do without a bill of sale and without a title for these vehicles that we given to us.
So the truck that was in his name you can file for a lost title with your court docs showing you as his executor. If you don’t have court docs and there’s no will you “should” be able to use the Affidavit of Heirship form to sell the vehicle provided there’s no recorded liens. As for the stuff with no titles pictures of money orders don’t mean a thing. Text conversations don’t either. All irrelevant and easily faked. Just fill out the forms and write in “did not receive title from seller” and leave it at that. It should be fine.
