I've seen a lot of talk about this drummer not sounding...inspired. I agree with that assessment, but now I can see this was someone just dutifully filling in. This concert was in June 2022. Opeth's new full time drummer played his first show in Sept 2022--and he's pretty great? Based on the limited videos I've seen, he has a closer feel to Lopez, but maintains a very strong technical ability and pocket.
Thanks for sharing this video. Sound is great at high volume. My favourite band for well over a decade. Oh did I mention I'm 66 y.o.? New drummer Walt is spot on. Congratulations to him for securing such a great gig.
Opeth will forever be one my most top favorites of my top favorite bands.. literally in my top 5.. or.. top 3.. and my top 3-5 are equally talented and appreciated, not one better than the other.. I am partial to original and unique talents, with a style all of their own. Not many can claim this, yet, Opeth is one of those rare bands..
@@jumjam6116 It's really hard to say, because I do like many great bands, yet, in similar genre & styles, yet still very different and unique, Opeth, The 3rd & The Mortal, Theater of Tragedy, Mastadon & Aesma Daeva.. have always been top faves, and will forever be, and, I will NEVER grow tired of.. 🎶🖤🎶 Also Therion..
Rad. Thanks for that. I got into Opeth after a mate told myself & my roommates, about this amazing band, who in 20 mins, were about to play in my home town of Brisbane - Australia. One of my other great friends, at the time, was the Head Manager of The Tivoli (Venue Opeth Were Playing) So made the phone call & in littrully 30 mins from when I first herd of Opeth. I was standing there getting blown over by the raw power of Ghost of Perdition (opening track) I instantly had a new favourite band. It was a fucking good day. I feel blessed & love all music that is played with passion. My top 5 are = NIRVANA • Midnight Oil • Machine Head • TOOL • Opeth
@@jumjam6116 I also like those bands you mentioned. I was just trying to mention bands of similar and yet uniquely different of the opeth genre, and, from close to the era.. yet, I have top faves of every genre, and subgenre, and your mentions are a part of those as well. If you're not familiar with my mentions, other than Opeth, theyre definitely worth checking out, Especially their earlier works..
Yeah this drummer does nothing for me. He can play but zero ear for what should or shouldn't be played. Also are those Paste Colorsound cymbals? The crashes and ride sounds like shit.
@@Vampier Not always, you do it healthily, you'll be fine. Cattle Decapitations vocalist, Travis Ryan does more extreme shit than he does and is fine because he takes care of himself.
Fred starts playing the opening sequence for Drapery Falls. Dude in background very audibly ooOo's. If he had a seat nearby you know he'd be sittin' down real quick and fanning himself so he don't pass out.
At that vantage point in front of the stage, you're hearing the on-stage monitors and the amps and drums un-miked. I'm sure the drums sound killer through the mains. Sitting so close has its disadvantages because your not hearing the soundman's mix. Think about that next time you buy tickets to a show.
@@sinnertrain7405 It's not about sound engineering or mics, this drummer plays different some parts. I'm not a drummer but i can clearly understand it when watching older performances.
this video is amazing but god damn what i wouldnt give to see the similar footage of someone like led zeppelin, the dead, or pink floyd at a festival in the 70s. the absence of ridiculous camera movements and obnoxious editing makes this incredibly immersive
