All that bracket that they added does is prevent the trailing arm from falling out when the mounts rust out. They did NOTHING to mitigate the actual rust issue to start with. Part of the recall was that they were supposed to spray a shat bucket full of some rust preventative, like "Fluid Film" or something similar into those drain holes, but that's not a permanent fix at all.
Since I did this myself, I can cut out the cost of time and labor. The driver side donor pieces I bought pre cut from a scrapped E for $60, and this new passenger side rocker I cut from a yard and paid $35. It's the time, labor and having the tools to do so that will get you if you need to pay a shop/welder to fix for you. Mist estimates for this type of RLCA repair are in the range of $2/$3K.
I know this is an old video but for anyone wanting to make a similar modification you can get a fully mechanical p-pump from an older rabbit or golf 1.6 and it will practically bolt right in to where the 1.9 pump sits and I believe uses the same cam belt gear but could be wrong. The only thing that you have to look out for is injector / pump tuning. Ideally you'd use the 1.6 injectors to start off with to make sure the conversion works as they will match how the pump is tuned, but could go back to the 1.9 or bigger aftermarket injectors that way you can lower the overall duration of the injector fire, and therefore you can reduce egts and up the power, but that is if you are trying to really tune it to how it should be, a 1.6 pump and injectors will make this 1.9 a dog but usable, but there is a plethora of modifications you can do to tune the pump with bigger injectors. Buying an old pump is risky, but an old pump can almost always be rebuilt and retuned, as long as there is a parts market, or you can learn to resource and reuse old parts, but that requires having a good amount of space for an abundance of good and bad parts to salvage from, which can turn into a cluster-phobic headache or an eyesore for most who don't see the value.
The TC recall is not in effect in all provinces. It does not apply to BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba as "heavy road salt usage" was not considered applicable in those provinces. Obviously, Honda minimized their Canadian obligation as a cost saving measure.
Very cool to (eventually) see what a clean RTA mount looks like from the inside. Terrible design. One winter in salt country youre fine, the next winter your car is a write off.
Great 👍🏻 Video 😂 ! I loved my Element b4 my gf Hit a deer 🦌 with it a while back. I'm going to look at one this weekend so this video helped so I know what to look for.
Why do none of these guys ever keep track of what they needed for these motors to come together? It looks like there's 12+ guys who all did the same research and build.
1. Never buy an Element from the rust belt. 2. If you buy one in the SE USA, be sure to check the Carfax as many of those started life in the NE. FL is full of transplants from the NE who bring their cars south with them. 3. Inspect, inspect, inspect before spending $$. Elements are not alone with this design/rust problem. I own two Elements myself, as they are great!
I don't exactly remember... I did have to buy a timing tool for the injection pump. But there are timing marks on both the injection pump and the engine.
Thanks for taking time to make this video. I have a question for you, if you can please answer, just your thoughts. I have an engine 1.9SDI, mounted on a Skoda fabia, 2004. I want to use this engine on a mobile saw mill, unfortunately the injection pump it is electronic controled. After several days of fails I manage to start the engine and accelerate it up to about 1200RPM with the electronic pump, just by opening the pump and making some changes. If I buy a Injection pump from, 1996 , same engine but with TDI, the pump is mechnical, can I install it on this engine? it will work?? I am not concerned about lossing few HP, but it needs to run shooth . Just let me know what you think. I contacted several companies experts in Injection pumps and they told me they have lotd of work and they dont play with this stuff Thanks again
The electrical system on the ALH can be made to stand alone using the stock injection pump and ECU. The ECU does need to be re-flashed though. The ALH never came with a mechanical pump as far as I know... You're probably referring to the 1.9L AAZ. I have no idea how different that platform is...
Very nice thats alot of bootlegs. I had a Sony str 7065 with Bose 901s 2 series.Bought in the 1974.Sony was,350,Bose where used 315 with stands ,a Technics SL1350...350 new with Shure 100 Pickering .That was one hell of a System back then.
Hahaha. They were supposed to be playing nicely in the basement. I know that’s usually a short lived moment. And I have another little one, she was napping. Yes…..three girls. Send prayers.
Some real cool stuff in the video, def interested in a few of these bootlegs....'Aquarius' is an awesome release, clear vinyl in trifold cover...I have little interest in pic discs but could make an exception for Morrison Hotel, that slipped under my radar.....Recent releases I would highly recommend are the LA Woman + Morrison Hotel Sessions, they really give you an idea of Jim's sense of humour in the studio, I had low expectations but seriously underestimated both, listening to Jim's banter and humour in the studio and the band jamming is awesome.
What a very cool episode here...6 years oh my...I literally just tripped on your channel...been a big Doors fan since late 70s...I'm Paul btw and also subbed to you...I would say still my best Doors find was a OG 1st album in mono..3 bux at a estate sale a few years back.Sounds great.Great video thanx for sharing and take care
Thanks for the love! Been a doors fan since a teen and figured it was a good way to get back into sharing my Vinyl to the world. Nice snag on the Mono! I’ve come across several copies over the years and always seem to flip them and hold onto on that sounds the best to me. Thanks for the sub and comment! I subbed back. Looking forward to sharing more.
No electronics.. there's the starter and the shut off valve my mtds can run on no electronics at all. I got the litle electric shut off valve out and i can start it down the hill (on a hot day of coure) And shut it off with the mechanical shutoff lever verry cool
