this and the previous video (part 2) are fantastic and super clear explanations of the important HRF issue in fMRI. however, i would just add that the AFNI team has created multiple tools that allow for statistically sound FIR analyses up through the 2nd level: 3dMVM, 3dLMEr and the new 3dMSS. see those help files and the references therein.

Can you not leave the timing and analyse the data with respect to the slice times to form a view of the time course of activation? Or would this require too many trials?

But what is the resolution of one slice if deemed as a 2D picture?
@braintalk9664
@braintalk9664 7 месяцев назад
The resolution for a single slice is determined by the X and Y gradients. Typically in BOLD imaging this ends up being somewhere around 2-3mm^2 (although you can get it down to a fraction of a mm with some machines). The volume would then have that same resolution in the XY plane plus, in the Z direction, the resolution would be equal to the thickness of each slice (determined by the steepness of the Z "slice selection" gradient). I hope this helps, happy fMRIing!

Thank you Martin, these videos are fantastic, very grateful that you put these up. I had done Coursera courses in fMRI in past, but had a few gaps. The animations really help clear things up. Very happy to have found your channel. Yow will see me around :D

Your welcome. Please continue with these highly educational videos. Your graphics are clear and thorough yet not exhaustive and pedantic. You have a real talent at explaining this highly technical and multi-dimensional concept to amateurs.
