One of the worst vault final ever. The best 3 from the AA fell in the second attempt. Shaposhnikova deservedly won. Comaneci, after the controversial all around, lost confidence.
It looked like she almost missed the beam at the dismount. Was that intentional? What a painful disaster that could have been, but she still nailed it.
If I recall correctly, I think even Nadia admitted in her autobiography that this wasn't a great event final. And that she was one of the worst offenders.
This was not at all a stellar performance. She was given way too high scores across the board here. Her performance at 2004 Olympics really deserved higher scores though.
I love her for how ahead of her time she was in so many regards. She blended the old with the new. But as a person.... I loved watching her eat that vault. She's said some nasty and ignorant things, and it makes me lose so much respect for her.
Absolutely. She was 25 and well past her prime. She wouldn't have had to still compete had the incompetent organizers in Sydney set the vault at the correct height.
