Hello Grant, I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this course! I'm currently working as a PCT at a rehabilitation hospital here in DFW. One of my coworkers, who is currently enrolled in a similar certification at a local community school, mentioned it to me, and it really got me thinking. So, I did my research and came across Preppy, and I'm thrilled! It's such a wonderful opportunity and incredibly affordable for people like us. The only concern I have is about the externship could you provide more details on how that works? Also, will the state of Texas honor this certification? I'd love to get started on the right foot. Is it not possible to arrange your externship with a hospital in the evenings or may a retailer that offers evening hours if you work during the day? This would be my only issue
Hey Tricey! Yes, that's totally possible...it's normal that students are already working, and need to coordinate the Externship around that schedule. When you finish, the Externship Coordinator will reach out to match you up, and you'll create the schedule together with the healthcare provider to make it work for you! :)

Where I live we don’t have the CST program. Sadly, I am currently taking a CNA program instead and hopefully, I can move out and find a college with the program.
I'm in my 40's and been through different job industries (food, manufacturing, BPO). Someone recommended me to take medical assistant if I am thinking of another job. I've watched this video and MA responsibilities may include needles and blood samples...the thing is I am a hemophobia. I don't think taking blood samples is inevitable being a medical assistant.😵 But I want to try being one.
Externships are typically 40 hours minimum, but this can vary (go higher) depending on the facility and your availability. Externships are scheduled to accommodate all parties, so depending on how we spread that 40 hours, it could span anywhere from 2-6 weeks, typically. :)
