Interestingly, the lead runner's style of running, apart from his arm movement is very good. When you watch him "head on" his feet are straight in front. His knee lift is good, as is his stride length without him over-striding. His body is quite upright. If his arm action were fixed, he could be an even better runner. His arm movement is excessive which is bound to use up more energy than necessary, and yet he was still faster than the others in the leading pack, whose arm movements are much more relaxed. The leader's arms are perhaps a bit longer than average for his height, which may be why there is such an extended arm swing when he runs. On the other hand, the excessive arm swing may also be giving him a bit of extra drive forwards. After 3km, he looks like a man in a hurry (to the finish line), with a fear of anyone catching up with him. A good coach working with him should be able to fix the issue of the extensive arm movement, to make him a more efficient and even faster runner. He ran under 14 minutes for 5k. That's a very good run, and not that far away from international/professional standard. A lot of these runners ran under 15 minutes; still very good running, well above what average runners can do. Hats off to those who did the video recording. It is excellently done, showing exactly what an observer would want to see, and the quality of the video footage is very good.
Que maravilha de corrida, PARABÉNS a todos que organizaram e apoiaram. E os atletas foram sensacionais com tempos incríveis. Fiquei com desejo de participar - lugar incrível mas parecia estar frio. Ótima filmagem.
I wouldn't worry. I have never seen anything like this at an open 5k. Hardly anyone coming in after 25 minutes. I think it must attracts sharp end and some locals.
Thanks for the feedback. We had a technical issue unfortunately. It was our intention to have our speed / distance / time overlay. We hope to have it back for the next race!
