The Open University (OU) Students Association enables students to influence how your University is run. We exist to promote student interests and to ensure the OU is more than just a place of learning - it’s a student community.
Its really heartwarming to see the commitment and the inclusive views of the governing body at the OU. And not a boring moment in there. Please do more of these interviews. Its hard to know the people at the institution as a distance learner. These interviews help feel connected to the OU community. Cheers 😊
I'm a new student with the OU, just about to start my STEM access course to see if a further full degree in my chosen physical science might actually be feasible. Hearing Monica talk so passionately about her fantastic jobs and current work in the sciences, even after so many years in the scientific community, is truly very inspiring! What a fun, friendly and intelligent woman! I'd have loved to have seen more role models like this when I was younger - I'm sure I was sold the idea that scientists were meant to be boring! Thank you for having this talk, it was really interesting and informative.
Thanks for the tips. Especially The White Wall. I've been studying with the OU for 4 yrs, and this is the 1st time I've heard of it. Finding it very helpful already. ty
Wow.... truly shocked. I know so many OU students, but finding it difficult to notice any ethnic minority representation/diversity. So many associations and agendas but nothing to empower and support BME students. It's either PLEXUS or DSG! I'm sure, majority students don't have anything to do with either of them!
Hi, many thanks for watching our video. At Conference we were delighted to welcome students from many diverse backgrounds, and from many countries to campus and joining us online. However, we are always looking for ways to further diversity within the Association. Our staff and our Vice President Equality and Diversity are meeting with OU staff this week to discuss promotion of the Race Equality Charter that will be going out to students - an opportunity for students to voice any concerns and give suggestions. Furthermore a new club has also been started called “Unity in Diversity” which we hope will be of interest to a wide range of students. If any students are keen to get involved with promotion of diversity, or BME representation, they are welcome to email our Student Support team at oustudents-support@open.ac.uk
