Well, at least you get a second chance. I’m a free flight paraglider pilot, we have to stick it the first time, and it’s often in a field we have never seen before, and often in thermic conditions. Unless we where lucky enough to stay up for 5-7 hours or more until the day died down, but more often than not a bad decision leaves us low having to land in whatever field we have picked for the landing option in which ever valley crossing we are attempting.

@jdipierro Месяц назад
I was almost a free flight pilot that flight! Was running very low on fuel by the time I landed.. Was worried I wouldn't be able to make another pass if I needed to.. But yeah that's one of the reasons I love PPG is having more control of the flight. And being able to take off from any flat field :P

@@jdipierro I do plan on buying a paramotor just for after work flights during the week, i kept my beginner wing for one reason you can’t get even half what you paid when selling a wing, and for the second reason it will be a super safe and easy wing for transitioning to PPG flight, I already know that wing well and have done SIV on it, so I’ll just use it to paramotor now that I’m on a hotter wing for XC paragliding. But PPG will never take over for paragliding for me. Using thermals to climb thousands of feet, staying in the air for hours and flying much further than you would ever imagine possible without a motor, just the sound of the air and a screaming vario is absolutely amazing. I’ve glided over 5 miles after one thermal, flown 20+ mile triangles, and that’s actually nothing compared to more experienced pilots, I’ve had friends fly over 200 miles, it’s such an amazing sport, can be frustrating when you make a bad decision and sink out early, but when you fly past the valley you flew before and catch another climb and keep going for another couple hours it’s so rewarding.

@@SeqK 8k for the motor and frame and about 4k for the wing. Training is about 3-4k. Ongoing costs are very low.

@@rickall8277 Morningside Flight Park is on the VT/NH border and does both paragliding and PPG training. I've never been there so can't speak to the quality of PPG training. I also found Paraglide New England up in northern Vermont but again no personal experience with them. You Can Fly has been trying to put together a class in North Adams, MA but hasn't had enough students sign up. Connecticut isn't too far if you can make the trip even for a weekend at a time. The YCF instructor is very flexible on scheduling. Tell them I sent you if you get in touch :) Hope you can make it work and we can share the skies together someday!! I'm in Upstate NY!

The last landing seemed to be a bit crosswind, as indicated by the glider that was laid out but even moreso by the wind sock and the fact that your wing drifted to your right as it deflated. You would have had a touch less ground speed had you landed more directly into the wind. Nice job, though! I enjoyed your video.

When I first started out, I had no issue with going high. Highest i have ever been was a bit over 8000 feet, which was interesting, but not worth spending the time doing again. Then I had a number of "holy shit, that plane is getting close" experiences, and now I just feel super exposed when up high. Something that is worth pushing yourself on, though, so I try to go high at least once every flight and do a deep spiral down. Not really enjoying it, though :-)
