I've been trying to do this by the "push/pull through/on the mast foot" with the rig method everyone teaches to steer the board for several seasons and always just end up uphauling in frustration anyway lol. But the "car"/"bicycle" analogy makes a lot more sense and has me excited to try this again the next time I get on the fin! Great video and danke, Mario!!
Don´t know if you were a beginner at wavesailing but in that case it was not a wise spot. Another thing I guess you can have in mind is to detach the rig and float inland witht the board if it´s get bad.
Hey Mario, lovely to see that there is also some great attention to beginner "problems"! Even after twenty years this is realy usefull. I'm learning my neighbour how to windsurf and still (because I'm a teacher myself) the analytic approach of your vlogs (technical) makes it more easy to teach and do the manoeuvre step by step! Question: I didn't really understand what's your homespot is? (Name?) To me it seams worth the visit!! Cheers, Kevin.
Dear Mario! Thanks for another useful material! Tip for the next tutorial video: I'm sure many people would appreciate a video where you explain how to match your equipment (board size, sail size, fin size, boom height, mast foot, harness line length) to your own capabilities (like weight, height) and wind conditions. It's a very complex thing I know, but there are some rules of thumb to help a beginner out.
Hey Mario, Thanks for your video! I am a freeracer and what fin do you recommend for a Patrik 115 V5 slalom with a 7.0 Mach 5 race sail? I am 1.86m and 87kilo, sailing strand Horst Netherlands 🇳🇱 Thanks !
I’m no expert, but; I suggest riding closer to the mast based on this video. And trying to spend more time with the mast at a slightly forward angle. I think you’ll raise your speed.
With foiling this is different - the further you are away from the mast, the more control you get and the faster you go. :-) Pro´s are using up to 50" harness lines - its crazy.
@@MarioKuempel interesting… I guess it equals more lift? I meant it when I said I’m not expert.. I actually just learned this is a thing.. foiling with sails… hope I get a chance to fall off one someday
Very bad “bad jibes”; what you should have done is teaching me how to jibe and show all mistakes about jibing one can make in 2 days and how to get it better. Your good intentions did not work here :/
@@MarioKuempel One important factor in mfg is to be repeatable. You mentioned that the parts of other brands were all over the place that means the parts were either very loose tolerance or just not very repeatable which are very typical of made in china products
I am 75 yrs with stroke. My walking, not so good now. Wow, what fun awaits the youngsters coming up. Enjoy your youth. This is where I wish my tax money would go to help poorer youngsters enjoy!
I've come back to this video multiple times so I could really observe even the smallest things and now I see some significant improvements in my jibes. Thank you Mario for some great lectures!
Old windsurfer. I liked the whole foil concept till I saw the price. I mean for just the foil you can get a whole windsurf set, which to most is expensive enough. Windsurfing already became a sport for the fortunates these foils are worse. Hearing about varying quality I will stick to the water. Back when I learned everyone was having fun on huge boards which were near indestructable. Skill won races, over equipment. If I am honest those were the best days. Really cool vid though the tech is crazy.
That's Campione. Imo not that great for windsurfing as there is an ugly chop. Probably better suited for foil as u used in the video. For fins i cannot recommend it.
Is lake Garda mostly a foil based lake or you can go fin? Also im interested how do you plan your trips there? Does it have wind basically throughout the whole year or you check the forecast carefully quite often before going? My plan is to visit once but I dont wanna make a trip and then end up sunshining my gear 😂
In Malcesine and Limone there’s pelèr, a strong wind from north. Here small rig is usually required, 4.5/4.8 sail and of course fin small board. Roughly at noon the wind direction flips and get from south, with more wind in Torbole. Here you can go foil almost always, and most of the time you can go fin with about a 6.5 sail or more of the wind is less powerful. Days with no wind either in Malcesine in the morning or Torbole (10 mins distance) in the afternoon are rare.
I'm not sure what to think about a couple German guys speaking English with a strong Italian accent!! You are a lucky guy to have a Dad who does jumps while wing foiling!
Campione: From there you can walk up to Ristorante Pizzaria Brasa (Brasa Schlucht). Food is excellent - one of the best Pizzas in my Life. It's a crazy road there "stada della forra , Brasaschlucht"...on youtube you can find the james bond scenes an some car videos from there. also spectacular sound if a sportscar drives upwards the road.
Thanks a lot for your perseverance (especially to your partner) and for all the useful advice you share in this video! It would also be interesting to see a video where the logic is reversed. So you'd start with a perfect setup and change something about it, even slightly drastically in the wrong direction, and then try to see what saved properties changed. And then go back again to the perfect fit and mess up again with a different setting, but always just one and always starting from the ideal. Thanks again for all the info you've shared!
