There is still snobbery towards Finglas and Ballymun people. Although some people from both areas like to use this as an excuse to have an attitude problem
Oh please! Give me a break. I grew up on Ratoath Avenue. Born 1906. My Mother and Father made sure I had a proper upbringing. My Dad worked 7 days a week to provide for 6 children. My mother worked 7 days a week to nurture 6 children. I will always be grateful for their loving sacrifice. Stop blaming society, stop expecting others to provide. Take life and make it yours. Don't blame others for the failure of your family. Or yourself. None of my family felt deprived. We had loving supportive parents and siblings.

The state decides that there are parents that are not capable of bringing up their children. We're not talking about druggies here but the parents that that are overwhelmed by society, things that are beyond their control because government has failed them.

How's it up to the parents. Firstly, parents don't have eyes on the back of their head. Secondly, they can't be with their children 24hrs a day. Finally, in some cases chastising children, just makes them rebel, and react even worse. If the Government had of invested in the area, instead of finding their own luxery lifestyles with the states money, there'd of been amenities in area, such as youth clubs and activities for the kids. They'd of being kept amused and out of trouble, instead of standing at the corners saying, "it's boring, what will we do". If employers, didn't discriminate against people from areas such as Finglas, they teenagers old enough to work, wouldn't of turned to crime, jyst to help their parents put food on the table.
@George Sturdy That's true to certain degree, especially with children as their brain and intelligence hasn't properly developed yet. Although we're all different individuals with our own attitudes and opinions etc, we're still very similar in the way we think etc.
Out of 50,000 RTE couldn't find anyone to substantiate their claims of mass vandalism and crime. Those they found are speaking in generalities referring to what seems to be personal problem S associated with anyone living anywhere. It's just more of the same sensationalist rubbish that provokes a reaction. I lived in Fingas for 20 years and was never effected by crime, vandalism or depravation. Many of my neighbours' children went to university and all were gainfully employed. Al were decent law abiding people and RTE then and now cater for Irish snobbery in making these programs. It's sensationalist rubbish.
peter martin As your man with the beard (Brian Mayne) says as an afterthought and even Donnycarney and that's a settled area and yes it's true i was 11 years old in 1981 when this documentary on Today Tonight was originally broadcast on 13/12/1981 and remember watching it on the telly back then and Donnycarney had a chronic joyriding problem at the time which went on till the early nineties. I remember going to Mass on Sunday mornings and around Donnycarney church carpark there were burnt out cars and the fields behind Donnycarney Road burnt out cars. So what these people are saying is true.
@@j.o.1516 I live in Finglas south rivermount area 38 yrs and I loved growing up here all the fields an horses, scramblers ,,from the age of 12 ,sneaking out at the weekend 3am early mornings outside the premier diaries asking for work with the milkmen to earn €5 or working with a logs an coal men, my dad was 1 for years in a BMC pick-up ,,, or the all horse drawn 4 wheelers to get money to go the discos or buy a horse or bike ,,was all the good things that made it unique to grow up in Finglas yes there was crime but u show me somewhere there wasn't ,,,we use to buy cars from travellers an bring them into scribbles town fields an have great craic for days doing no1 any harm ,garda use to come in an watch us cus cars were ligit an were in a big field so they didn't mind ,,even had a few races with them round the track couple times ,,,that's were I learned to drive so good, ,honed my skills up there ,,,😂😂😂😂ken block wouldnt have a patch on me 🌲🌳🌲🌿🌿☔🌞❄💧🌄🌈,🚗🚘⤵⤴↗↘⏩⏩↩🔀🔁👑👑😎😎😈😈☝👌👍👏👏👏
I lived in Fingas for 20 years and all of my neighbours were hard working decent people. I never knew anyone involved in crime. Yet, these kind of programs cater for the rampant snobbery which afflicts all of Irish society whereby those on the next rung of the social ladder invariably delight in looking down their noses at others perceived to be beneath them. Consequently, many but not all of those born, reared in Fingask now deny any association with the place out of fear that they will not be accepted elsewhere. The houses built during the 1950's ,although of the same design, we're built to a high standard and today this is reflected in their prices. Fingas is a thriving community but RTE catering for the snobbish majority still delight in running the place down.
That blonde politician was one thick bitch, if she lived in Finglas her attitude would've changed in a heart beat not coming round once in a blue moon and reading on paper that it wasn't so bad, Ireland and particularly Dublin has always been cursed with lousy government, nothings changed.
There's other videos on youtube showing how nice Finglas was up until the 80s, then it all seemed to go arse upwards, Finglas became less a village community and just another Dublin suburb none of the long history of Finglas was taught to us in school. I had a typical and happy enough childhood there in the 80s and 90s, Going to the local 'baths' For walks down the canal, playing football with yer mates on your road and other games, sure I had me share of being bullied and run ins with the travellers and I got used to hearing lads on scrambler bikes every weekend morning in the fields next to Dunsink, Car's being joy rided, seeing horses on fields everywhere and even wandering into my estate in Finglas south, avoiding other estates when looking for a short cut to the shops or bus stop in case y'might be picked on cause they wouldn't recognize you, yep even in a place small as Finglas their was a very small minded territorial vibe about the place, working as a door to door salesman made me see that all over Dublin actually. Atleast Finglas has had a long and great history before it seemed to become just another drab and dodgy suburb like many others in modern Dublin, Ballymun comes t'mind, all for bad government planning to blame really, but folks made the best of it I guess and still do.
Spot on jay the estates in limerick came to mind and they never learned from the neglect of finglas and other similar areas. Building big estates with fuck all amenities. No shops or schools so how are these people supposed to live. 2nd class citizens we get treated as and it's disgusting.
