We see contusions ALL the time, kids are KIDS, and they have gone a hundred times down the stairs, and parents don't know what happened. It is incredibly smart until it happens!!

You can also show him how to turn around and crawl backwards down the stairs. I have 12 grandchildren and was a nanny for years and taught that to lots of toddlers, also how to do the same to get down off a bed or sofa safely. Of course I was always there to spot them until they had it mastered!
He found an obstacle in his path, & his innate process of critical thinkin' kicked in to conquer the problem with a solution. I hope he uses that approach throughout his lifespan, may all be truly well with his future endeavors
Babies are very resourceful. My son could come down the stairs easily at 10 months, standing up, holding onto the banister at the side. Never had problems with him or needed gates to keep him from going up and down stairs.
Your little man seems to be smart as he figured out how to get down those stairs. My little man, my great grandson can’t do any of that yet. And maybe never. He has a rare brain abnormality called Rhombencephalosynapsis. There are very few people in the world that have this. And one thing caused by this is hydrocephalus.
