Fellow Newfoundlanders: The narration sounds computer generated. Most non-Newfoundlanders do not pronounce “Newfoundland” as we do. Forget digital voiceover. As for “Beothuk”, half of Newfoundlanders get that one wrong…anybody ever hear a Newfoundlander say “beODDIC”? God love us, but we are an odd choice for the job of English teacher. His book 'John Barleycom' is his autobiography that describes his struggles with alcoholism since youth. He wrote it 3 years before his death (died at 40 from complications of alcoholism). I personally really liked the book because it makes you understand a mind of an alcoholic. I gained a lot of compassion for people suffering this illness of mind. It is probably not appropriate for an abstainer as people complain that the book makes them crave alcohol a lot.

Titanic didn't have enough lifeboats not because she was unsinkable, from what I heard White Star never even called Titanic unsinkable themselves, that was spread by the papers and media. It's because of outdated laws and flawed thinking of the time. Lifeboats was determined by the tonnage of the ship, any ship over a certain tonnage only needed 16 boats. With the 4 collectables added Titanic had 20, more than law required. And lifeboats back then wasn't seen as a means to get everybody off all at once. They where thought of more as little row ferries in that you take a load of passengers off, row them to a rescue ship, then go back and get more. Titanic sailed a very popular shipping route of the day, and White Star just never thought it would be possible Titanic could get stranded at sea all alone with no other ships nearby. That's the two main factors I've heard of as to why Titanic never had enough boats. Not because of "well she's unsinkable so she don't need more". Though to be fair that is how movies tend to play things out, didn't the Cameron 1997 movie basically say that?
